Fire and Ice Throws a Unique Light on One of the World's Darkest and Most Mysterious Philosophical Corners The Mysteries of Germany's Most Secret Occult Order The hidden teachings and practices of German occultism have long held a strong fascination for the poet as well as the historian. The largest German secret lodge—the Fraternitas Saturni—revealed nei ther its membership, its inner teachings, nor its rites. Still the most active and important magical society in Germany today, the FS has been the object of specu lation, suspicion, and suppression. It is only through a chance occurrence that the inner documents of this order were published in Germany. The book you now hold is the first comprehensive interpretive study of these documents and of the inner workings of the FS which they reveal. Within these pages you will discover the fasci nating stories of this order's founders and leaders. You will witness the development of its magical doc trines and practices, its banishment by the Nazis, and its postwar dissentions and conflicts. The Saturnian degree system of initiation will be revealed in full detail, as will some of the order's unique cosmologi¬ cal and sex-magical teachings. A selection of some of the most powerful and unusual rites historically practiced by the FS are also offered. Fire and Ice throws a unique light on one of the world's darkest and most mysterious philosophical corners. It is a book of accomplished scholarship and a compendium of fascinating anecdote. This text will be found to be indispensable for anyone interested in the history of western occultism of the 20th century. Llewellyn's Teutonic Magick Series Teutonic Magick is as vast as the northern sky and as deep as the shrouded northern mists. Many of the most powerful forms of magick in the West were developed to an early perfection by Teutonic magicians—Albertus Magnus, Agrippa, Paracelsus— some were even elevated to the level of legend, such as Faustus. Teutonic Magick is multifaceted—it has its own innate traditions—those of the ancient Germanic peo ples (Anglo-Saxons, Germans, Dutch, Scandinavians) and in addition it has those of the general Western Tra dition which they received from southern Europe in the Middle Ages—and proceeded to develop with charac teristic scientific zeal. The world of Teutonic Magick is full of truly secret, some sinister, corners as well. Many of these—like so much else that we believe to be sinister—are thus char acterized simply because they are unknown and per haps also misunderstood. There are whole realms of Teutonic Magick that have largely been kept truly secret until the latter part of this century. Llewellyn's Teutonic Magick Series is the first to explore this world in a systematic and authoritative way. It will reveal the secrets of German rune magic, the obscure mysteries of Gothic Kabbalah, the magic of Faustus, and the deepest mysteries of the German occult orders such as the Rosicrucians, the Illuminati, the Fraternitas Saturni, and the dreaded FOGC-Lodge. The path of Teutonic Magick is focused on the expansion of consciousness through a will to power and knowledge—the way opened for the Teutonic magician by Woden on an archetypal level and fol lowed by Faustus and most modern magicians. This led them to an absorption with the Jewish creation myths in Genesis, which they obsessively reinterpreted to formulate allegorical explanations of how humans ended up trapped in the world of matter. The basic Gnostic story, which varied in details from teacher to teacher, was this: In the beginning there was an unknowable, immaterial, and invisible God, sometimes called the Father of All and sometimes by other names. “He” was neither male nor female, and was composed of an implicitly finite amount of a living nonphysical substance. Surrounding this God was a great empty region called the Pleroma (the fullness). Beyond the Pleroma lay empty space. The God acted to fill the Pleroma through a series of emanations, a squeezing off of small portions of his/its nonphysical energetic divine material. In most accounts there are thirty emanations in fifteen complementary pairs, each getting slightly less of the divine material and therefore being slightly weaker. The emanations are called Aeons (eternities) and are mostly named personifications in Greek of abstract ideas.

Quareia—The Adept Module II—Magical Construction Lesson 7: The Hall of Planetary Spirits by Josephine McCarthy Quareia Welcome Welcome to this lesson of the Quareia curriculum. The Quareia takes a magical apprentice from the beginning of magic to the level of adeptship and beyond. The course has no superfluous text; there is no dressing, no padding—everything is in its place and everything within the course has a good reason to be there. For more information and all course modules please visit www.quareia.com So remember—in order for this course to work, it is wise to work with the lessons in sequence. If you don’t, it won’t work. Yours, Quareia—The Adept Module II—Magical Construction Lesson 7: The Hall of Planetary Spirits Another, and final, layer that we add to the temple is that of the planetary spirits. This brings the influence of the planetary spirits into a closer relationship with the Inner Temple, which focuses the patterns of fate and the tides of influence that the planets have on the temple’s life and work. This enables the Inner Temple adepts to foresee the tides of fate that gather and express out in the world, and to adjust the temple’s work accordingly. Working in such close connection with the planetary spirits and their influences lets our adepts work with the momentum of the streams of fate rather than pushing against them. It also allows the specific qualities of the individual planetary spirits to be worked with, consulted, and brought into action with the work of the temple and individual adepts through the generations.

For the most part, it can be performed without complicated rituals, needs hardly any paraphernalia, is independent of philosophical and dogmatic premises and, due to its simplicity, can be learned easily and quickly. Most important of all, none of the magical techniques we know of today is more efficient and will give even beginners the immediate chance to convince themselves of its power and their own abilities.

  • SUMMONING SPIRITS Now That We Have a Working Definition of What Magical Evocation Is, We Should Be Able to Illustrate What It Is Not Rather Simply
Evocation can be defined as the calling forth of an entity from another plane of existence to an external manifestation in either the astral or physical plane. INTRODUCTION magician felt a surge of excitement run through him as he icked up the leather-bound book. He carefully opened the old diary to the section marked "Conjuration," and began to read by the red light of the filtered lamp on the altar. When the oration was completed, the magician glanced at the painted wooden triangle he had positioned outside the magic circle. Toward the cen- ter of the equilateral triangle, smoke rose from a brass censer in a steady stream, filling the entire room with the scent of peppermint. Scattered about this glowing bowl were pieces of iron, garnet, and red jasper; to the right of the censer stood a metal figurine of a scorpion that cast moving shadows on the floor as the glow of the coals illuminated it. Slowly, the magician's gaze fixed upon the small object at the base of the triangle. The red light in the room, combined with the faint glow of the censer, clearly showed the symbol drawn on the round piece of paper. It was this sigil that the magician began to focus on as he closed his eyes. In a few moments, the magician held up his wand and slowly started opening his eyes. The name "Phalegh," which he had been repeating mentally, escaped his lips as a whisper, and he continued calling the Mars spirit out loud. With each repetition of the name, the magician opened his eyes a little more, and his voice grew in volume and resonance.

(First published in the Journal for the Academic Study of Magic, 2004) Justin Woodman Introduction This article examines the significance of the category of the ‘demonic’ as applied within the theory and practice of ‘Lovecraftian’ magick1: a ‘style’ of magical practice inspired by the fictional universe of the ‘Cthulhu mythos’ created by the author H. P. Lovecraft, and popularised within certain sectors of the contemporary Euro-American magical subculture. For these contemporary ‘Lovecraftian’ magicians, the demonic is mobilised as a potent ‘apocalyptic’ weapon in contesting the alienating consequences of modernity, and forms an ambivalent moral category distinct from Christianised conceptions of supernatural evil. An equivalent moral ambivalence has also been noted in a number of recent anthropological accounts of postcolonial African modernities2 - modernities partly characterised by an emerging (and global) tendency ‘to interpret modern processes of change in terms of ‘witchcraft’’ 3. These accounts recognise that the idiom of the demonic - both in African contexts and more widely - encompasses a simultaneous fascination with and desire to be ‘modern’, and a deep anxiety about where society is heading. The demonic, in this 0 understanding, is not a
