Since its discovery, mesothelin, a cell surface protein, has been a promising biomarker and therapeutic target due to its overexpression in mesothelioma and limited expression in normal cells. This review summarizes the clinical studies that have examined mesothelin as a biomarker and therapeutic target in mesothelioma and explores future perspectives in its role to improve patient management. Abstract: Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is an aggressive cancer with limited treatment options and poor prognosis. MPM originates from the mesothelial lining of the pleura.
