    Afghanistan • Flooding Situation Report #3 5 May 2009 HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES Serious flooding is ongoing in North, Northeast, and Western Afghanistan. 10 out of 34 provinces are affected ANDMA has called for mobilization of resources in response to the floods and in anticipation of more to come Gaps are identified in temporary shelter (all affected regions) and machinery for clearing blocked roads (North and Northeast) Stocks are depleted; authorities and aid coordination are calling for replenishment of assistance items in expectation of more flooding in the near future Heavy rains are continuing in affected areas OVERVIEW Heavy and continuing spring rains are causing widespread damage in North, Northeast and Western Afghanistan. Flood response is being coordinated by Provincial Disaster Management Committees (PDMCs), with the assistance OCHA, NGOs and UN agencies. Assistance is being distributed by local authorities, the Afghan Natural Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA), the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD), and/or the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS). There are serious concerns about continued flooding, particularly in the north. In the west, response in some areas has been delayed because of insecurity. Katsaus päivittää maatietopalvelun aiempaa vastaavaa selvitystä (Afganistanin tilannekatsaus marraskuussa 2017, 15.12.2017). Katsauksessa on käytetty eri julkisten lähteiden, kuten YK-tahojen ja toimittajien, raportointia, joka on ollut Maahanmuuttoviraston saatavissa katsauksen kirjoittamisajankohtana. Katsaus keskittyy Afganistanin turvallisuustilanteeseen; muita ajankohtaisia teemoja käsitellään muissa maatietopalvelun tuotteissa1.     HYDRO-GEOLOGICAL BOOKLET LOGAR PROVINCE 2019 2019 HYDRO-GEOLOGICAL BOOKLET OF LOGAR PROVINCE i FOREWORD We are delighted to present the Hydro-geological Booklet published by DACAAR with support from UNICEF. So far little has been known about hydro-geological settings and groundwater resources in Afghanistan due to the lack of sustainable management, exploration, developmental coordination and the maintenance of collected data. DACAAR has collated this information from its existing Ground Water Monitoring and Data Management System and made it available in one system, this is so that the sector can make use of the data and analysis. The DACAAR has managed to collect and compile the data from approximately 85% of the hydrological basins of Afghanistan and have been conducting groundwater monitoring in 29 provinces of Afghanistan through 363 Ground Water Monitoring Wells (GWMW). Our GWMW network has proved to be a great source of information regarding the qualitative and quantitative status of groundwater in the country, this supported by our monitoring teams, through visiting these Groundwater Monitoring Wells on a regular basis to measure water levels and test water samples. This collected data is then analyzed, interpreted and mapped with the help of a specialized Integrated Water Resources Data Management System which is available online through the special geo-spatial website we have developed under the UNICEF project. As the nation-wide data source on this subject in Afghanistan, the system provides crucial long-term scientific information regarding groundwater quality and quantity and the sustainability and functionality of water points, this will support the planning and decision making in water supply projects by the Govt and other WASH actors.

The information is derived from surveys conducted by UNIDATA between June­ October, 1990. Information from other sources has also been incorporated to complement and check consistency of data sets. The report has been structured to provide sectoral analysis at the provincial and district level. The analysis at the district level also offers an assessment of the impect of the war on the local economy, highlighting inter-district variations. This should enable planners to determine sectoral resettlement and rehabilitation requirements at the district level. The methodology of the data collection, as described in Page 1, was conditioned by the feasibility of implementing field surveys under the prevailing uncertain situations on the ground. Nonetheless, consistency of the information gathered has been checked against information available from secondary sources. The quality of the data may be further improved by accessing undated information as it becomes available from agencies involved in field work in Balkh province. Katsaus päivittää maatietopalvelun aiempaa vastaavaa selvitystä (Afganistanin tilannekatsaus toukokuussa 2018, 8.6.2018). Katsauksessa on käytetty eri lähteiden, kuten YK-tahojen ja toimittajien, raportointia, joka on ollut Maahanmuuttoviraston saatavissa katsauksen kirjoittamisajankohtana. Katsaus keskittyy Afganistanin turvallisuustilanteeseen; muita ajankohtaisia teemoja käsitellään muissa maatietopalvelun tuotteissa. Afganistanissa järjestettiin lokakuussa parlamenttivaalit ja presidentinvaalit on määrä pitää huhtikuussa 2019. Taliban-liike on laajentanut hyökkäystään Ghaznissa nyt myös hazaravähemmistön asuttamille alueille. Afganistanissa toimivan ISIS-haara ISKP:n terrori-iskut ovat lisääntyneet etenkin Kabulin ja Jalalabadin kaupungeissa. Afganistanin humanitaariset olosuhteet ovat heikentyneet etenkin maan länsiosia koetelleen vakavan kuivuuden vuoksi, joka on konfliktin ohella ajanut ihmisiä pois kotialueiltaan.
