Abstract - Collections of the Zoological Museum «La Specola» of the University of Florence. I. Insecta Coleoptera: type specimens. A list is given of the 423 typical taxa in 30 Coleoptera families conserved in the Museo Zoologico «La Specola» (Florence). This Museum contains the conspicuous collections of A. Andreini, W. Fuchs, F. Piccioli and A. Senna, as well as the material collected by the Centro di Studio per'la Faunistica ed Ecologia Tropicali del C.N.R. (Florence). The families are arranged in the systematic order used in The Zoologica I Record, Insecta, part B: Coleoptera, VoI. 117 (1983). Listed for each taxon is: species (or subspecies or infrasubspecific category), genus (or genus and species; or genus, species and subspecies), author, year of publication, page on which it appears, kind of type, catalogue number, nation, locality, date, collector, and number of specimens. Ali the data from the originallabel have been transcribed, with additional information appearing in brackets. The designation given in the originai description has been reporled, regardless of the actual validity or systematic position. In type series where the holotype could not be discerned with certainity ali the specimens have been labelled as syntypes, while in seri es where the holotype (and/or allotype) were c1early identifiable then the remaining specimens have been considered as paratypes. The Buprestidae designated as «typus» by Obenberger ha ve been indicated generically as types, as the kind could not be established with certainity. The designation of eventuallectotypes is a task better left to specialists of each group. Key words - Types; Insecta Coleoptera. BACCHUS (1978). Le famiglie sono disposte secondo l'or dinamento sistematico utilizzato in The Zoological Record, Insecta, part B: Coleoptera, VoI. 117 (1983). Graniczna 35, skr. poczt. 65, POLAND e-mail: [email protected] This paper is dedicated to those Colleagues who prefer to help – rather than backbite and defame – the work of others. Introduction Dicercina GISTL, one of the largest and most widely distributed subtribes of the Buprestidae LEACH (several hundred – above 700 according to OBENBERGER 1926, 1930 – species in some 15-20 genera inhabiting almost all tropical and subtropical areas of the world), are represented in the Indo-Pacific Region by 10 genera and more than 100 species. The taxon comprises big or at least medium-sized, frequently colourful species, many of which are rather common, but nevertheless even their taxonomic relations and geographical distribution (to say nothing about bionomy) remain relatively poorly known: the last comprehensive review of the “Groupe Psilopterites Lac.” (KERREMANS 1910) is almost nine decades old and includes only a part of the subtribe as presently understood, my (HOŁYŃSKI 1999) dissertation is also incomplete (Ovalisia KERR. treated only at the subgeneric level) and anyway has remained unpublished, OBENBERGER’s (1926) world catalogue is already badly outdated, that of BELLAMY (2008) admittedly represents but uncritical compilation, and thus the recent revision of Dicerca ESCH. and Poecilonota ESCH. (HOŁYŃSKI 2005, 2011a) and of Indochinese Psiloptera SOL. by AKIYAMA & OHMOMO (1994) are the only more than exiguous contributions to the knowledge of the Indo-Pacific representatives of the Dicercina GISTL published in the last decades; as the easily understandable consequence the status and affinities of most forms are often falsely interpreted, names wrongly applied, and specimens in collections notoriously misidentified.

Hawkeswood* *PO Box 842, Richmond, New South Wales, Australia, 2753 (www.calodema.com) Hawkeswood, T.J. (2007). Beetles (Coleoptera) of the Shell Picture Card series: Buprestidae. Calodema Supplementary Paper No. 30 : 1-7. Abstract: Cards depicting Buprestidae species (Coleoptera) from Australia in the Shell Picture Card series entitled Australian Beetles (1965) are reviewed in this paper. The original cards are supplied as illustrations with the original accompanying data. Comments on these data are provided wherever applicable. Introduction During the early to mid 1960’s the Shell Petroleum Company issued a number of Picture Card series dealing with the fauna and flora of Australia. The cards were handed out free at Shell service stations across the country (when petrol stations did give proper service!) and were housed in an album which was purchased separately. This paper reviews the Buprestidae (Coleoptera) of the Australian Beetles series (card numbers 301-360)(1965). The other beetle groups will be dealt with in other papers. The reason for these papers is to provide the illustrations and data for future workers since the Shell Picture Card series are rare and have seldom been referred to as a result. The nomenclature used here generally follows that of Bellamy (2003). Species Card no. 315 - Regal Jewel Beetle, Calodema regale (Laporte & Gory) [as Calodema regalis L.& G.] Card data: “This magnificent insect is extremely well named because it is one of the most beautiful members of the Jewel Beetle family (Buprestidae).

HOŁYŃSKI PL-05822 Milanówek, ul. Graniczna 35, skr. poczt. 65, POLAND e-mail: [email protected] Introduction The nominotypical subgenus of Cyphogastra DEYR., one of the most speciose genera of large Buprestidae LEACH, seems (HOŁYŃSKI 2016) to have originated at the northwestern end of the Palaeomelanesian (HOŁYŃSKI 2001) chain of archipelagoes now accreted to New Guinea, and on that “superisland” has attained its greatest degree of diversification: the present state of knowledge does not allow to quote exact values, but anyway the New Guinean representatives of the taxon make an ssemblage at least comparable if not superior – as well in terms of number of species as of distinctive supraspecific groupings – to that of all the remaining parts of the distribution area together. Unfortunately Cyphogastra DEYR. – partly despite but partly just because of containing large and usually colourful, attractive beetles – is a taxonomically difficult and at the same time over- (multitude of scattered accidental records and superficial descriptions) and under- (last comprehensive review – KERREMANS 1910 – more than a century old; almost no significant studies after 1950) studied genus, the knowledge of New Guinean fauna being especially chaotic and irreliable: many taxa remain undescribed and the published taxonomic relations among those already named have usually no much more relation to the reality than if based on crystal-gazing [so e.g. the most recent catalogue – BELLAMY 2008 – lists 16 (10 of them New Guinean) synonyms and 4 (not inhabiting New Guinea) subspecies of C.

The collection was started by Dr. L.H. Hale during 1970, and was resurrected and expanded from 1979 due to the foresight and energy of Dr “Jack” Tenorio, who also contributed a great number of specimens. Originally the collection was intended as an insect collection to assist identification of insects affecting agriculture, horticulture and silviculture in the Northern Marianas, and to contribute to the ability of pupils and students to learn more about the subject. During 2001 the collection was expanded to include all terrestrial and freshwater invertebrates, and a collection management protocol was established (see Appendices 1 and 2). The collection was originally owned by the CNMI Department of Land and Natural Resources , and was on loan to the NMC Entomology Unit for curation. During 2001 it was transferred to the NMC by agreement with Dr. “Jack” Tenorio, who emphasized the need to maintain separate teaChing material as well as identified specimens in the main collection.

ZooKeys 922: 65–139. https://doi.org/10.3897/zookeys.922.46367 Abstract Changes to the treatment of Coleoptera family-group names published by Bouchard et al. (2011) are given. These include necessary additions and corrections based on much-appreciated suggestions from our colleagues, as well as our own research. Our ultimate goal is to assemble a complete list of available Coleoptera family-group names published up to the end of 2010 (including information about their spell- ing, author, year of publication, and type genus). The following 59 available Coleoptera family-group names are based on type genera not included in Bouchard et al. (2011): Prothydrinae Guignot, 1954, Aulonogyrini

  • BUPRESTIDAE (Coleoptera Sternoxia)
PARC NATIONAL ALBERT NATIONAAL ALBERT PARK I. MISSION G. F. DE WITTE 1933 -1935 I. ZENDING G. F. DE WITTE 1933-1935 Fascicule 54 Aflevering 54 BUPRESTIDAE (Coleoptera Sternoxia) PAR A. THÉRY (Paris).
