Mr. Lif’s albums have always had their finger on the pulse of America but I Heard It Today is his coup du sort. Boldly holding a mirror to the face of society, Lif has blended veteran producers such as and J-Zone with up and coming producers Willie Evans Jr., Batsauce, Therapy, and Headnodic to create an album that speaks brazenly about the current political issues and agendas Americans and the global community are facing: fear, paranoia, and angst as the U.S. economy collapsed and the bailout bill passed, self hatred in the Black community, and the housing crisis are just a few of the topics touched on through I Heard It Today. Lif takes these negatives and turns them on their head, using them in search of a healthier way of life and a way to achieve freedom and peace of mind through the power of the imagination. Guest appearances by Bahamadia and Vinnie Paz of help to solidify this album as a crucial piece of art delivered at a pivotal point in American history.

Traffic Entertainment presents The Memphis Sounds Ike’s Moods, an all-instrumental collection of Isaac Hayes’ most well-known songs. In a similar vein as the Ultimate Breaks & Beats Instrumentals album, Ike’s Moods takes the best from Isaac Hayes’ catalog and transforms them into instrumental gems. Just as Hayes defined funk and soul in the 60s and 70s, the members of The Memphis Sound have carved out their own unique contemporary sound that not only attracts a younger generation to the genres, but also pleases fans of the sounds since their inception. Consisting of members from El Michels Affair, the Dap Kings, and Anti Balas, these instrumentalists have been a part of a movement of neo-wave funk and soul musicians, redefining the sound through projects with Mark Ronson (his most recent album Version) and Amy Winehouse (Back to Black, as well as touring with the singer); reworking classic instrumentals for the Wu-Tang Clan on a series of 7” records and performing live alongside the clansmen; and other various live and studio recorded projects. Ike’s Moods contains such classics as “Shaft,” “Walk On By,” and “Look Of Love,” and aptly pays homage to the many moods and musical stylings of Hayes. An innovator of his time, Isaac Hayes is most known for his work on the music for Shaft whose theme song was made famous by its wah-wah guitar and multi-layered symphonic arrangement. Passing away in August 2008, Hayes left behind a career that spanned an extensive discography, filmography, and a handful of awards including three Grammy’s, an NAACP Image Award, and an Academy Award. Celebrate the career of this American music icon who defined the funk and soul genres with Ike’s Moods.

The much anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album, Granite State returns with The RE:Public. Their first release changed the preconceived notion of how Hip Hop should sound, while their sophomore album takes listeners deeper into the eclectic world of Doug York and Bugout. Blending together the edge of Rock and 90s Boom-Bap, with an underlying essence of Soul, Granite State has blurred the line between socially conscience and commercially entertaining. After three years of touring the country, The RE:Public is Granite State's story of struggle in response to those they represent.

Backed by strong production from Evidence (, ), Statik Selektah (Jadakiss, , Q-Tip, , Consequense), and DC the MIDI Alien (AZ, Termanolgy, East Coast Avengers, ), Granite State has exceeded the expectations of many, and associate their appeal to the void that needs to be filled within a dying culture.

The lead single "One Shot" featuring Evidence, has made its way from XXL Magazine, to Evidence's own EP, to the Dew Sports Tour. "One Shot" continues to be played on radio stations through out the world. Granite State broke down barriers for unsigned artists', when their single "Gone With The Wind" debuted on Sirius Satellite Radio's Hip Hop Nation Top Five Hit List. They continue to set the bar higher to represent an America rarely portrayed at all in today's mainstream Hip Hop.

Los Angeles resident Flying Lotus brings beats with a cinematic flare, “I see these tracks as little short films that play in my head.” Flying Lotus is a free spirit, “I have this beautiful lemon tree in my backyard, and on a sunny day the light shines through. Little things like that inspire me.” A Coltrane through and through, Flying Lotus is the great-nephew of and a cousin of . “My greatest influences are my family, I’m lucky to have been around so many accomplished musicians.” And most importantly, Flying Lotus is a visionary, so get ready to meet your favorite new producer.

1983 is the first full-length album from Flying Lotus, originally released on Plug Research in 2006. The album was an introduction for most to a sound that connected the fractured, funky soul of Dilla and to the more psychedelic of Daedelus, and other kindred spirits. In the years since this release, the Southern scene has coalesced, and Lotus has continued his genre synthesis, working with UK dubstep producer Kode9, among others. This is bass music that gets tagged ‘experimental’ because it pushes boundaries, but felt live, there’s no doubting the direct, physical impact it has on an audience.

While the title 1983 may conjure images of parachute pants and asymmetrical ‘dos, the ‘83 Lotus envisions isn’t the typical retro cheese covered by VH1 specials. This is , Bambaataa, the Bomb Squad, and Basquiat. This is the musical future Prince was dreamin’ about.

The follow-up to 2004's warmly textured 'You Make Me Feel', 'Meme' is another slab of freshly- baked solipsism that coats an emo-heart with layers of electronics and a generous sprinkling of singer/ passion. A natural bedfellow to Junior Boys, The Go Find or Postal Service, Torontonian Mike Milos is the latest in a string of solo troubadours who consider digitalis the foremost medium in which to render their tales of love, life and ladies. The kind of album you can describe as 'sleight' without setting it up for an insult, 'Meme' is sonically svelte throughout; framing Milosh's indie-boy vocals in a mesh of buzzing electronics and smudged accompaniment that are both perfectly balanced and utterly complimentary. Opening with the hyperkinetic thrum of 'It's Over', Milosh engenders a thrillingly optimistic atmosphere, wherein a set of carbonated beats (straight outta 'Kid A') buoy the honeyed vocals and analogue backbone, creating a song which can make you smile/cry depending on your mood. Similarly, 'Falling Asleep' employs a locomotive of hand claps and sweat-soul vocals to create a song which wouldn't have looked out of place on either the last Jamie Lidell or Telefon Tel Aviv albums, 'The City' is a neon-noir ode that recalls label mate Damon Aaron, whilst album closer 'Playing With Yen' dispenses with the fragility in favour of some electro-pepped beat boxing.
