Originally released on Profile records in 1989, Youngest In Charge boasts a track list that includes such Hip Hop classics as “I Got It Made”, “Taxing” and “Think About It” (remember the video with the hovercraft?). Traffic Entertainment presents The Memphis Sounds Ike’s Moods, an all-instrumental collection of Isaac Hayes’ most well-known songs. In a similar vein as the Ultimate Breaks & Beats Instrumentals album, Ike’s Moods takes the best from Isaac Hayes’ catalog and transforms them into instrumental gems. Just as Hayes defined funk and soul in the 60s and 70s, the members of The Memphis Sound have carved out their own unique contemporary sound that not only attracts a younger generation to the genres, but also pleases fans of the sounds since their inception. Consisting of members from El Michels Affair, the Dap Kings, and Anti Balas, these instrumentalists have been a part of a movement of neo-wave funk and soul musicians, redefining the sound through projects with Mark Ronson (his most recent album Version) and Amy Winehouse (Back to Black, as well as touring with the singer); reworking classic instrumentals for the Wu-Tang Clan on a series of 7” records and performing live alongside the clansmen; and other various live and studio recorded projects. Ike’s Moods contains such classics as “Shaft,” “Walk On By,” and “Look Of Love,” and aptly pays homage to the many moods and musical stylings of Hayes. An innovator of his time, Isaac Hayes is most known for his work on the music for Shaft whose theme song was made famous by its wah-wah guitar and multi-layered symphonic arrangement. Passing away in August 2008, Hayes left behind a career that spanned an extensive discography, filmography, and a handful of awards including three Grammy’s, an NAACP Image Award, and an Academy Award. Celebrate the career of this American music icon who defined the funk and soul genres with Ike’s Moods.

1983 is the first full-length album from Flying Lotus, originally released on Plug Research in 2006. The album was an introduction for most to a sound that connected the fractured, funky soul of Dilla and to the more psychedelic of Daedelus, and other kindred spirits. In the years since this release, the Southern scene has coalesced, and Lotus has continued his genre synthesis, working with UK dubstep producer Kode9, among others. This is bass music that gets tagged ‘experimental’ because it pushes boundaries, but felt live, there’s no doubting the direct, physical impact it has on an audience.

The follow-up to 2004's warmly textured 'You Make Me Feel', 'Meme' is another slab of freshly- baked solipsism that coats an emo-heart with layers of electronics and a generous sprinkling of singer/ passion. A natural bedfellow to Junior Boys, The Go Find or Postal Service, Torontonian Mike Milos is the latest in a string of solo troubadours who consider digitalis the foremost medium in which to render their tales of love, life and ladies. The kind of album you can describe as 'sleight' without setting it up for an insult, 'Meme' is sonically svelte throughout; framing Milosh's indie-boy vocals in a mesh of buzzing electronics and smudged accompaniment that are both perfectly balanced and utterly complimentary.
