The manuscripts is a masterpiece of 9th Century “information technology”, combing a primary text, the Homeric Iliad, with secondary texts in the form of scholiastic notes, and other metadata in the form of critical signs. Thus the images of this manuscript provide wide access to an invaluable window into two millennia of the history of the Homeric tradition. INTRODUCTION In May of 2007 an international team of Classicists, conservators, photographers, and imaging experts came together in the Biblioteca Marciana—the Library of St. Mark—in Venice, in order to bring to light a cultural treasure that had been hidden away for over 100 years. Galli e che il Ministro ha risposto dando buon affidamento” 1 Con queste parole, scritte da Federico Halbherr 2 a Domenico Comparetti 3, nel settembre del 1908, si conclude la laboriosa genesi 4 della Scuola Archeologica Italiana di Atene. Il triangolo Comparetti-Halbherr-Pernier offre, nei frequenti scambi epistolari, uno spaccato affascinante e, per molti versi, estremamente attuale della rete di interessi politici e scientifici che avevano mosso, già all’indomani della scoperta di Gortina, l’appassionato roveretano a cercare una sede greca per le sue missioni archeologiche. Da Firenze Domenico Comparetti crea i presupposti politici e individua vari ambiti della ricer - ca scientifica, mentre a Halbherr il giovane Luigi Pernier 5 appare come una figura che possa unire la concretezza dell’attività sul campo ad un’indole diplomatica. “Luigi Pernier (…) si distingue per una speciale vocazione per questi studii di storia e di anti - chità” 6 Pernier era stato selezionato nel 1897 come allievo della Scuola Archeologica di Roma da una severa commissione composta da D. Comparetti, R. Lanciani, F. Halbherr, E. Loewy ed E. De Ruggiero. Il giudizio unanime di idoneità aveva confermato l’ottima prova che qualche mese prima Pernier aveva sostenuto discutendo la tesi di laurea di fronte, tra gli altri, a Giulio Beloch e con Lanciani come relatore. -

Curbera To the memory of Giuseppe Nenci ICILY WAS FAMOUS for her chthonic deities. 1 According to tradition, Hades abducted Kore at Syracuse, Henna, or SAetna; Pindar calls Acragas <l>EpoE<j)6vac; EDOC; (Pyth. 12.2); and the whole island was said to be sacred to Demeter and Kore (Diod. 5.2.3; Cic. Verr. 2.4.106). Indeed, archaeological and numismatic evidence abundantly confirms the literary sources.2 This paper deals with some previously unnoticed epi thets of Sicily's chthonic gods and with the reflection of their cult on personal names on the island. I. The Kyria Earlier in this century, a grave in ancient Centuripae, some 30 km southwest of Mt Aetna, yielded an interesting lead curse tablet, first published by Domenico Comparetti after a drawing by Paolo Orsi, and again, in apparent ignorance of Comparetti's edition, by Francesco Ribezzo with a drawing from autopsy.3 Neither text was satisfactory. A Jewish Russian Woman in Nineteenth-Century Italy by Asher Salah Elena Comparetti Raffalovich (1842-1918) 68 Asher Salah Abstract In the nineteenth and the first half of the twentieth century, Italy held a strong appeal for Russian travelers. Several of these Russian émigrés were women of Jewish lineage, who had come with their families or were sent abroad on their own in order to complete their education at one of the newborn kingdom’s prestigious universities. Elena Raffalovich (Odessa 1842 – Florence 1918) is one of the earliest and most intriguing examples of this phenomenon. While her intellectual trajectory, as a pioneer in children’s education and an advocate of women’s rights, is representative of that of many other Russian Jewish women living in Italy at that time, it also challenges a number of historiographic commonplaces about Jewish women and their emancipation process in nineteenth-century Europe. «History of Education & Children’s Literature», III, 2 (2008), pp. 305-335 ISSN 1971-1093 (print)/ISSN 1971-1131 (online) © 2008 eum (Edizioni Università di Macerata, Italy) The «Fascist reclamation» of textbooks from the Gentile Reform to the School Charter of Bottai Roberto Sani Introduction The following work proposes not only to examine more closely the state of research and to offer a clearer picture of the more recent and significant histo- riographical discoveries in the matter of school publishing and textbooks in the twenty year Fascist period, but also to throw light upon certain research trends and directions, which in some way or another have already begun or which must be held present, with the aim of deepening and integrating the knowledge which we already have at our disposition. School textbook publishing is perhaps the field which has undergone the most intense and productive development1 in the last decade with regards to studies on the history of Italian schools between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Furthermore, with reference to the results obtained, it is the field which has allowed us to redefine, and at times to completely overturn, a series of generalisations and stereotypes inherited from preceding school historiogra- 1 See A. 1 La Serie Critica D'arte Si Compone Di 25 Buste Contenenti La
CRITICA D’ARTE La serie Critica d’Arte si compone di 25 buste contenenti la documentazione della rivista dal 1934 al 1990. Prima del riordino la documentazione si trovava condizionata in 10 buste più uno scatolone con- tenente principalmente bozze di alcuni fascicoli prodotti negli anni Ottanta1. Nonostante la documentazione fosse non riordinata, era rintracciabile l’ordine cronologico dato in origine dal soggetto produttore. Particolare difficoltà si è incontrata nel riordino delle carte riguar- danti i primi anni di vita della rivista. Al nucleo originario della serie sono stati aggiunti alcuni quaderni di Ragghianti rinvenuti in buste miscellanee, con chiaro riferimento ai progetti della rivista. La documentazione, ordinata in cronologico, è stata suddivisa in fascicoli annuali contenenti principalmente: Attività di redazione (testimonianza dell’attività della rivista: contiene ad esempio abbonamenti, documentazione amministrativa); Contributi e scritti (fasc. dedicati agli studi prodotti per la rivista e inviati alla redazione per essere pubblicati); Corrispondenza (testimonianza degli scambi tra le redazioni di alcune riviste e tra redazione e collaboratori). Città Metropolitana di Torino Biblioteca di Storia e Cultura del Piemonte “Giuseppe Grosso” Archivio Marino Parenti EPISTOLARIO Inventario a cura di Giovanna Signoretta, coordinamento di Walter Canavesio 2016 NOTA SUI CRITERI DI ARCHIVIAZIONE L’epistolario di Marino Parenti è stato ritrovato nelle cantine della Provincia di Torino nel 1998, dove era confinato dai tempi dell’arrivo dell’imponente raccolta bibliografica ed archivistica appartenuta al bibliografo ed editore Marino Parenti, nel 1964. Probabili motivi di prudenza politica sono stati all’origine di questa rimozione, al momento del ritrovamento ormai del tutto antistorica. L’emersione del copioso materiale ha fatto scoprire la rete di interessi, di relazioni e di scambi di Parenti, ampia e ramificata, sviluppatasi in una estensione temporale che va dagli anni ’20 agli anni ’60 del Novecento. Una semplice rapida lettura dell’elenco rivela i nomi delle personalità, anche molto conosciute, che erano in contatto con Parenti, ma l’analisi della corrispondenza chiarisce appieno il grande intreccio di rapporti, sia con i vecchi amici e compagni di strada dei tempi del Bagutta, sia, man mano, con i soggetti intervenuti nel frattempo durante tutta la vita lavorativa di Parenti. L’epistolario rivela infatti appieno il ruolo di un intellettuale organico, ben radicato nel complesso delle iniziative pilotate dall’alto, qui in particolare dal mentore Giovanni Gentile, ed attivo in seguito sino alla fine nella casa editrice Sansoni, gestita dal figlio Federico Gentile, dopo le grandi difficoltà incorse durante il periodo bellico ed immediatamente postbellico. Il panorama è ampio, ed è già stato a suo tempo analizzato in un volume a più mani, pubblicato nel 2001 (Un uomo di lettere. -

111 FONDO TORQUATO BARBIERI Inventario a cura di Simonetta Santucci Bologna, Casa Carducci, 2018-2019 1 Denominazione fondo Torquato Barbieri Date 1954-2000 Consistenza 11 buste (ml. 1,90) Soggetto produttore Torquato Barbieri (Milano 1918-Bologna 2000). Dopo avere coadiuvato (dal gennaio al novembre 1946) il collega Vincenzo Milani, allora conservatore di Casa Carducci, è stato responsabile dell’istituto bolognese, sezione speciale della Biblioteca dell’Archiginnasio, dal marzo 1950 al 31 dicembre 1977, direttori Alberto Serra Zanetti (1940-1960) e successivamente Gino Nenzioni (1960-1980). Ambiti e contenuto Il nucleo più cospicuo è rappresentato dalla corrispondenza che consta di 860 unità epistolari indirizzate a Barbieri da 186 mittenti nell’arco temporale 1954-2000. Barbieri ha organizzato le suddette per corrispondente, conservandole in buste di secondo uso (in buon numero quelle, a sacco, di diverso formato, che racchiudevano in origine documenti inviati alla moglie medico), su cui ha apposto il nome del personaggio. In queste Barbieri ha custodito anche minute sue e materiali di varia tipologia relativi il mittente. Ad eccezione di qualche scambio di natura privata, gli epistolari documentano l’attività multiforme del conservatore di Casa Carducci, custode tanto «peritissimo», quanto «amorosissimo», a dirla con Manara Valgimigli, del patrimonio manoscritto e librario di cui è depositario l’istituto bolognese, la più parte ordinato e descritto scientificamente da lui stesso. The Congress has been designed to provide an innovative and comprehensi- ve overview of the latest research developments in cardiovascular medicine, primarily in the areas of cardiology basic sciences, coronary artery disease, heart failure and an overview about heart and sport. Many distinguished cardiologists and scientists have joined the faculty and will take part in this International Congress. The speakers coming from Europe, North and South America and Asia, will present in the plenary sessions, su- perb scientific material that was carefully selected by the Scientific committee. We explore the treatment of cardiovascular disease, have a special track on the most debated topics about heart failure and ischemic heart diseases, and have some fascinating lectures by the leading professional in our field.
