Nat. Croat. Vol. 27, No. 2, 407- 420*, 2018, Zagreb. In this paper, the plant lists of glasshouse succulents grown in the Botanical Garden from 1895 to 2017 are studied. Synonymy, nomenclature and origin of plant material were sorted. The lists of species grown in the last 122 years are constructed in such a way as to show that throughout that period at least 1423 taxa of succulent plants from 254 genera and 17 families inhabited the Garden’s cold glass- house collection. Thus, the translocation of Frithia humilis for conservation purposes can be seen as a first for South Africa. Consequently, a monitoring programme was initiated to assess the feasibility of translocation as a conservation tool for this species. This study is considered to be the second phase of the monitoring program and aims to determine the long term feasibility of translocation, since the previous study determined whether F. humilis could survive the translocation process and successfully reproduce at the receptor sites. The objectives were to study the population to quantify and compare the: (i) pollination system over time and between receptor and control sites; (ii) fecundity over time and between receptor and control sites; and (iii) population structure over time and between receptor and control sites. The dissertation is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1. Discusses project history, species account, aims and objectives, hypotheses and dissertation layout. Chapter 2. Discusses translocation challenges, factors influencing success and failure and guidelines. Chapter 3. Describes the study area, study sites and methodology. Chapter 4. The findings of observations and identification of potential pollinators are given and primary and reserve pollinators are suggested.

De dagen gaan alweer lengen, elke week is het een kwartier langer licht. Viel er ook nog wat plantkundig te beleven of te leren in deze periode? Weet u nu het verschil tussen een Picea abies, Picea omorika en Abies nordmanniana, of had u een Picia glauca die groen was? Het wordt ons steeds moeilijker gemaakt en als je ze, net zoals elke plant, niet in het water zet vallen ze allemaal voortijdig uit. Dan hebben we nog kerststerren (Euphorbia pulcherrima) en kerstrozen, (vnl. Helleborus niger en H. orientalis), beide niet te verwarren met kerstkransjes. Verder valt het op dat er veel Zuid-Afrikaans spul in de bloemstukjes zit zoals protea’s en verwanten. Wat vertoont verder al teken van leven? Ik heb al vijf jaar drie bollen van Hippeastrum papilio. De eerste knop is al zichtbaar, maar het lukt me niet om er meer dan één tegelijk in bloei te krijgen. Ook een orchidee, een dendrobium, bloeit weer volop, terwijl ik hem dit voorjaar, niet vorig najaar, bloeiend had gekocht. Verder heb ik mijn vrouw (?!) een zeer grootbloemige christusdoorn cadeau ge- daan, die voor ¤ 2,75 bij het tuincentrum stond. Ik weet niet of ze hem echt mooi vond, maar misschien kan ze er een paar leuke kruisingen mee maken. Op de laatste Succu- lenta-vergadering heb ik een Chirita tamiana gekocht. Het blad is als van een klein kaaps viooltje, maar de bloem als van een kleine streptocarpus, heel leuk.
