The More Family at Heriot’s Club

The More family have been an institution at Heriot’s Cricket club for many years.

Hamish More Hamish was born in 1940 at Elsie Inglis Hospital, to James More & Gladys Baker. James was married to Gladys in June 1939 at Lomond Road, Leith. They had another son George and a daughter Heather all born at Elsie Inglis Hospital.

Hamish scored a total of 15,362 runs for Heriot’s in a career than run from 1958 to 1994. He scored 24 hundreds with a high of 149 not out v Grange in 1965. The best season for runs scored was in 1972 where he scored 882 runs. He took 402 catches and 147 stumpings as a wicket keeper. He currently holds the 1st wicket partnership record of 220 which he achieved with his brother George in 1972 v Selkirk. He made 84 appearances form 1989-1994. I have at present been unable to determine how many times he played prior to 1989.

Hamish was a regular in the Scotland side from 1966 to 1980. According to the website he played 45 Scotland cap matches and he also played 9 non cap matches. His first match was against with a Scotland cap was 7 May 1966 against Cambridge University at Fenner’s. His first non cap games was 13/14 July 1961 against South Africa Fezelas at , .

George and Hamish More

Robert More Robert is son of George above and Barbara Tennant. He was born in Edinburgh.

At present has scored a total of 2,542 for the 1st team from 1996-2018. In last few years he has played more for the 2nd team. He has a high score of 110 not out v Kelburne in the 2003 Scottish Cup. This was a good season for him as he scored 608 runs

Robert has represented Scotland at various youth levels. He also represented Scotland in the 2001/02 U-19 World Cup which was played in New Zealand. Robert’s highest score was 40 v Canada in Auckland.
