Apr 21, 2016 10:23 BST Early May Bank holiday weekend changes to Southern and services

Network Rail’s engineering work this May Day Bank Holiday weekend (30 April to 02 May) is concentrated in south , as a project to improve signalling takes place on the Main Line in the Streatham area.

The work which takes place between Balham and Norbury means that there will be major changes to Southern services to and from Victoria on Saturday and Monday, with most Southern services being diverted to run to and from London Bridge instead.

On Sunday, Network Rail will be carrying out work in the Battersea area as well, so there will be no Southern services at all to or from Victoria.

For all three days, there will be no Gatwick Express services, although Gatwick will be well served by London Bridge.

A Southern spokesperson said: “This is another crucial piece of engineering work which will help us to run our trains on a more reliable railway. Unfortunately, it does mean that some of our passengers will need to alter their journeys over the weekend, but we have ensured they will be able to get to their destinations by optimising the use of London Bridge and Blackfriars.

“While the work takes place, our message to passengers is to plan your journey by checking before you travel with Enquiries.”
