Last Game: The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (1-2) defeated the Jackson Generals (2-1) by a 3-2 score in the third game of the five-game series at The Ballpark at Jackson on Saturday night. Jacksonville right-handed starter (1-0) earned the win in his Double-A debut, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing two hits, walking one, and collecting eight strikeouts. Jackson right-handed starter Sam Lewis (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs (all earned) on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Jacksonville right-handed relief Marcus Crescentini earned the save by getting the final outs in the ninth, despite allowing a in that frame. For the third straight day, Jacksonville scored a run in the top of the first, as delivered an RBI double to put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead 1-0. Two innings later Jagielo hit the first Jumbo Shrimp homer of the year, a two-run shot to right to grow the lead to 3-0. Brigham kept the Generals off the board through his five innings, and Jackson did not score until the seventh inning. Against Jacksonville reliever Esmerling De La Rosa, an infield single by Jose Vinicio with two outs brought in a run to get the Generals on the board at 3-1. With two outs in the inning, left-handed relief pitcher Jeff Kinley came in to get the final out and keep Jacksonville in front 3-1. The Generals scored a run off Crescentini in the bottom of the ninth, with Alberto Rosario collecting a two-out RBI single to put the score at 3-2. Gonzalez, a member of the Marlins 40-man roster, enters 2018 as the Marlins No. 15 prospect according to and No. 16 prospect according to MLB.com. Gonzalez spent time between the Mets and Marlins organizations last season after he was acquired by the Marlins in the AJ Ramos on July 28, 2017.

Jagielo En Fuego: All of Saturday’s runs were brought home by Jumbo Shrimp Eric Jagielo. After delivering an RBI double in the first inning, Jagielo blasted a two-run homer over the right field wall in the third inning to put Jacksonville ahead 3-0. Jagielo is in his first season with the Jumbo Shrimp and the Marlins organization, after he was acquired by Miami in a trade with the in a deal for cash on March 17, 2018. Jagielo is no stranger to the Southern League, having played parts of the last two seasons with the , the Reds’ Double-A affiliate.

John Norwood, Run Producer: Now that sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Through the first three games of the year, John Norwood leads the Jumbo Shrimp with four runs batted in. Last season Norwood led Jacksonville with 62 runs batted in. Norwood is responsible for four of Jacksonville’s 12 runs batted in, and is hitting .273 with hits two of Jacksonville’s first three games.

Grin and Barrett: Friday night Kyle Barrett put together a career performance against the Jackson Generals. Batting in the leadoff spot in the order, Barrett went 4-for-5 at the plate, tying a career high with four hits in the game. The last time Barrett had four hits was on April 21, 2017 for the High-A at the in a game where he was 4-for-7.

Shrimp Have Prospects: On the roster, the Jumbo Shrimp have five players who are listed by MLB.com as Top 30 prospects for the 2018 season: OF (2), Isan Diaz (8), RHP (10), RHP Merandy Gonzalez (16), and RHP Pablo Lopez (24), who is currently on Jacksonville’s disabled list. All five of these prospects were acquired by the Marlins in trades within the past 12 months.

Generally Speaking: This is the first of two series between the Jumbo Shrimp and Generals in 2018. This is the only trip to Jackson for the Jumbo Shrimp this season, while the Generals will make their only trip to Jacksonville from June 13 to 17 to close out the first half of the season. Last season the Jumbo Shrimp and Generals split their five meetings, with Jacksonville winning three of five games in Jacksonville in late May, while the Generals won three of five in late June. The reason for so few meetings? The Jumbo Shrimp and Generals are separated by 713 miles, with typical bus rides lasting between 11 and 13 hours between North Florida and West Tennessee.
