What will you contribute as a Director of Ringette Alberta?

I want to further enhance my knowledge of ringette and become more involved in the sport my daughter loves. I also want to spread the word about how great the sport is to get more involvement. I have an interest in helping in any way to further expand the sport in terms of exposure and gaining interest in the sport. I also enjoy working with individuals in making the sport fun and safe for the players. As a Manager of my daughter’s ringette team for the past five years, I have an understanding of the excitement this sport brings to girls at all levels. I also know the issues that come up with teams and would enjoy working with various groups on handling matters that impact the sport.

I will bring fresh ideas to the Board. I enjoy working on problem solving and assisting with the further development of the sport.

Kari Colpitts Why do you wish to become a Director of Ringette Alberta?

I want to be a part of shaping the future of Ringette in Alberta. Two of my three daughters play ringette and I want to ensure that their experience, along with that of all Ringette Alberta players, is the best it can possibly be. As a ringette coach, I love to watch my team benefit from hard work and commitment. I want to continue to foster an environment that is positive and rewarding for all players. Our ability to attract and retain players is tied directly to their positive experience in the sport. I believe a focus on recruiting and supporting female coaching staff is critical. Not only to provide positive female role models but to demonstrate to young athletes, that ringette is a sport they can remain involved in through out different stages of their lives.

I see the need to continue to grow and develop the game at both the grassroots and competitive level by creating growth opportunities for all levels of players and coaches. Skill improvement comes not only from practices and games, but by having goals to work towards. Ringette Alberta has a critical role in providing these opportunities and creating new ones for all levels of competition.

What will you contribute as a Director of Ringette Alberta?

I am dedicated to advancing and promoting the female athlete; keeping girls in sport and active for life. This is a huge passion of mine. My goal, as a head coach, is to ensure every player wants to continue playing and build the love for the sport.

For the last four years, I have been a head coach with the South Calgary Ringette Association. Prior to that, I coached at both a developmental level and for the University of . I bring a keen understanding of the challenges facing coaches and areas to support them. As a coach, I strive to be a role model to my team and staff showing passion for the game and respect for parents, officials and opponents. I believe bringing that same attitude to the board fosters the opportunity for growth.

While growing up in Calgary, I played on the first all-female team in Calgary Minor Hockey. I was an active part of growing female hockey in Calgary and Alberta to what it is today. I watched my mother volunteer and build girls hockey in this province for me and others, and I have the desire to pay it forward and do the same for ringette. I have played hockey for years at many levels, including University, Senior, National and I continue to play recreationally. I feel my perspective as a female athlete would be an asset to the board.

I have a Bachelor of Commerce and am a Chartered Accountant/CPA. I have worked in a variety of dynamic high pressure environments, including trading/marketing floors, at KPMG, Transalta, and Suncor and therefore have the acumen to respond and adjust processes, manage team dynamics and problem-solve effectively.

As a Director of Ringette Alberta, I would use my experience, diverse skill set and passion for female sport to support the on-going development of Ringette.

Ryan Devlin Why do you wish to become a Director of Ringette Alberta?

Having been appointed to Ringette Alberta’s BOD in late 2019, I hope to continue my committee work upon election by its members at the 2020 AGM. That which compelled me to request joining the Board in 2019 was my desire to help create a strong Ringette program for our children of today and the future. Strategic planning and project management can be a complex process and requires both knowledge of workflow and the time management to complete the tasks. The development and execution of a strategic plan is critical for all organizations, athletic or not. Of particular interest is the implementation of the Centers of Excellence programming, risk management and marketing and communications. I am confident the work I will be asked to do will strengthen the sport of Ringette, which is very dear to my family.

What will you contribute as a Director of Ringette Alberta?

As you work through your strategic plan, I will provide you the knowledge and experience I have gained from 28 years of and NGO administration (PLWA) in the Province. In addition to the role I currently serve on the RAB BOD, I serve on the EFCLRA BOD and hold the position of Coaching Director. I also serve on Alberta Soccer Associations’ Referee Development Committee working on the recruitment, retention and mentoring portfolios. I am an NCCP certified coach and hold a Provincial C License in soccer. As an entrepreneur, I have a strong track record in business leadership which affords me the time required to dedicate to volunteer Boards and Committee work. I have served as a member and chaired a number of committees over the years that include; communications, nominations, technical, coaching, secretary, and governmental affairs. I look forward to continue volunteering my time to Ringette Alberta to develop and grow the sport.

Elisa Klassen Why do you wish to become a Director of Ringette Alberta?

I would like to continue to grow my skill set as a leader and director. I believe that it is good to give back to the community especially to places in which you have a passion for the sport and love of the game. I would be honored to be considered for this role. I have two young daughters who watch me play and I am hoping that they will love the sport as I do. What will you contribute as a Director of Ringette Alberta?

I have held my CPA, CA designation since 2013 and currently work for a public practice firm in Edmonton. I have also served on the Board of Millwoods Adult Soccer Association as Treasurer since November 2014 (still current). I have played ringette for approx. 14 years throughout my life and love the sport (currently playing for St. Albert Ringette). I believe these skills I have obtained will be complimentary to serving on the Board of Ringette Alberta.

Dean Kozak Why do you wish to become a Director of Ringette Alberta?

I thoroughly enjoy being involved at a more local level in the sport community. My daughter began playing Ringette 3 years ago so in addition to her love of the sport I found the passion amongst parents, volunteers, coaches and administration in the sport has me wanting to become more involved in sport again. For the past number of years, I have worked at a broader level in my employment. Personally, I have volunteered on NSO/MSO Board of Directors but have lost with a more local / within the province sport perspective. While I believe I can give to the sport with my experiences noted below, I hope as well to learn a great deal more about a sport that is relatively new to me at a personal level. What will you contribute as a Director of Ringette Alberta?

I can provide my educational background including a Bachelor of Kinesiology as well as a M.A. Leadership from Royal Roads (2017). I have personal experience serving on Board of Directors at a Provincial and National level since 1991. I have held positions of Vice President and Sport Technical Director with a PSO. Director of Sport Development at a NSO level, and Stakeholder Relations and Athlete Development Director for 4 years with the Canadian Paralympic Committee. I have worked for the past 12 years with the Government of Alberta in the Sport Physical Activity and Recreation Branch/ASRPWF/ASC. I was hired as a Sport Consultant in 2008. I was the lead consultant for 20-30 PSO's for the Government and was the CS4L provincial lead for 2-3 years. Additionally, I was the Co Chair for the Federal/PT LTAD committee for a 2 year term. For the past 4 years I have had the role as a Senior Advisor, Physical Activity with the Government and have lead stakeholder relation roles as well as been the lead consultant with 18 provincial active living and recreation associations.

Mary Pelland Why do you wish to become a Director of Ringette Alberta?

It is an exciting time for Ringette as it responds to the ever changing and diverse needs of its membership and the game. My desire is for all athletes to play for the love of the game regardless of their skill, gender, cultural background or time commitment. I would love to have an opportunity to continue working on initiatives like Flex ringette.

What will you contribute as a Director of Ringette Alberta?

I have been involved with Ringette for a good number of years starting out as team manager and then getting involved with my home Association in various capacities such as President, Treasurer and Ice Scheduler. I'm an active volunteer on the Ringette Calgary board, the Calgary Open Ringette Association, my daughter’s Open team and on the Ringette Alberta Board for the past 2 years. Being from a small association I have a sense of the challenges smaller associations face when implementing changes. I can also speak to the transition from youth to adult ringette.

My background is a business/systems analyst which allows me to look for continuous improvement, analyzing the pros, the cons, and potential pitfalls of implementing the solution, reviewing the feedback and adjusting the plan.

Aaron Sewards Why do you wish to become a Director of Ringette Alberta?

I wish to submit my application for a directorship for Ringette Alberta for three reasons; 1) grow the sport, 2) to enrich the game and 3) to bring representation from Central Alberta to the ringette board. Growing the sport includes targeting increased registration for existing associations, but also, seeking out potential individuals for opportunities in other communities. Enriching the game consists of planned and specific community engagement. Objectives such as bring gym ringette into more schools, developing a ringette Physical Education Unit based on the Alberta Curriculum and ensuring the sport stays affordable for all who would like to play. Lastly, representing Central Alberta, from my research, I did not see any representation from Central Alberta, it is hard to grow at the local level without a voice at the provincial table. I feel my combination of education, experience and motivation would help me explore these ideas while working within the board framework, mandate and mission statement.

What will you contribute as a Director of Ringette Alberta?

To this position, I will bring a combination of experience and education in many areas. For coaching experience, I have coached a variety of sports (Rugby, Hockey and ) from a variety of sporting associations (Community, ASAA, CIS). I am currently going through the pathway to becoming an assistant coach for my daughter's team. For board experience, I now sit on the Red Deer Minor Hockey Commission as Atom (Soon to be U11) Coordinator. I look after nine teams in my city league division, handling everything from parent meetings to discipline and awards. Before this, I was the Governance and Policy Director for Red Deer , helping create many new polices (Procurement, Sponsorship, Conflict of Interest) and writing new bylaws and structure to ensure the league continued to adjust to changes for safety and growth. Also, I served two years with Hockey Calgary as Atom Commissioner. For my rugby team, I have been U19/U7 Program Coordinator (while coaching) developed a Rugby off-season Academy in partnership with local schools. As well, I have had coordinator positions with Red Deer City Soccer and Red Deer Lacrosse.

For education, I bring my formal schooling; I have a B A in Political Science with a focus on Policy. I have a B Ed after degree and am just finishing my Master’s in Educational Leadership and Community Development. Lastly, I will bring a passion for the sport itself. I have witnessed what ringette has done for my daughter. She left hockey for ringette; it brings her so much joy. While her team has not won a game, she still loves to be on the ice with her teammates (new and old). It is because of the bond this sport has created. Also, I am quite tech savvy with social media and Google Suite.
