izuzetne i uspješne saradnje LDA-Agencije lokalne demokratije iz Mostara i Službe za odgoj, obrazovanje, mlade i sport Grada Mostara. Prema podacima Ministarstva pravosuđa, uprave i lokalne samouprave Hercegovačko-neretvanskog kantona/županije, na području Grada Mostara je ukupno registrovano 798 udruga/udruženja. U ovom Adresaru se nalaze podaci o 276 nevladinih organizacija (udruga/ udruženja), koje su dostavile svoje podatke na upit Službe za odgoj, obrazovanje, mlade i sport Grada Mostara i koji su bili temelj za njihovo unošenje u Adresar.     Transboundary Aquifers in Karst - Source of Water Management and Political Problems Case Study, SE Dinarides P. Milanović Belgrade, Serbia, email: [email protected] ABSTRACT One of the most deeply karstified regions in the world is the area of the South-Eastern Dinarides situated between the Neretva River in the West, Kotor Bay in the East and the Adriatic Sea in the South-West. This area has the largest resources of natural fresh water in the Mediterranean region, and experiences the highest precipitation in Europe (up to 8,000 mm). Surface flows are rare and generally short-lived. Between 70% and 80% of water in this region flow through the well developed network of underground karst conduits. The subterranean karst is, also, world famous for the large number of different endemic species. In this region, three countries (Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro) now exist where a short time ago there was only one country, Yugoslavia. The transboundary relationships are sensitive and complex, and are further complicated by the existence of separate entities within Bosnia and Herzegovina. Infrastructure such as large hydropower systems, which previously served a single country, now needs to be shared between multiple interested partners. There are many examples where such engineering complexes now cross the newly defined international boundaries. The groundwater conditions are particularly complex. Main karst aquifers discharge from massive springs. In a few cases, serious problems have arisen as a result of aquifers crossing the new boundaries. In these cases, parts of catchment areas (and aquifers) do not fall into the same political entity as the springs.

    HYDRO-POWER AND GROUNDWATER IN KARST HYDRO-POWER AND GROUNDWATER IN KARST (prepared for the World Water Development Report) Petar Milanović and Neno Kukurić INTRODUCTION The region of Eastern Herzegovina is an area endowed with the highest precipitation in Europe. The average precipitation for a dry year is about 1250 mm and for a wet year about 2450 mm. This region borders the Orjen Mountain area, which has an average annual precipitation of more than 5000 mm. Additionally, this region is one of the most karstified areas in the world; surface flows are very rare; and distribution of precipitation is uneven during the year. About 70% of precipitation occurs during the wet season and 70-80% of rain water immediately percolates deep into the underground. Temporarily flooded karst poljes (flat-floored geographic depressions)), ephemeral rivers, numerous caves, and deep underground flows characterize this karst region. The main watercourse in the whole region is the Trebišnjica River, the largest sinking river in Europe. Since time immemorial, the people of this area have coped with two kinds of misfortune: flood and drought. It is a paradox. In spite of enormous precipitation in the wintertime, during the summer period, there is no water for fundamental human necessities. In remote villages, people still use rain water collected during the winter. When collected rainwater was insufficient, villagers used to walk hours to take water from karst shafts in the deep underground (nowadays the water is transported by cisterns). Only agricultural land is in the karst poljes, surrounded by desertous bare rocks. However, the poljes remain flooded for an average annual period of 150 to 250 days.

Conservation Impacts Please explain/describe how your project has contributed to the implementation of the CEPF ecosystem profile. The project has researched the status of endemic fish species in rivers of Buna, Bunica and Bregava in lower Neretva valley. In Buna and Bunica rivers salmonid species dominated, while in Bregava endemic cyprinids species are abundant. These rivers are important habitats for endemic salmonids, as they use rivers for spawning and juvenile feeding grounds. The dominant salmonid species is softmouth trout, Salmo obtusirostris.
