Thus, some thesis and dissertation copies are in typewriter face, while others may be from any type of computer printer. The quality of this reproduction is dependent upon the quality of the copy submitted. Broken or indistinct print, colored or poor quality illustrations and photographs, print bleedthrough, substandard margins, and improper alignment can adversely affect reproduction. In the unlikely event that the author did not send UMI a complete manuscript and there are missing pages, these will be noted. Also, if unauthorized copyright material had to be removed, a note will indicate the deletion. Oversize materials (e.g., maps, drawings, charts) are reproduced by sectioning the original, beginning at the upper left-hand comer and continuing from left to right in equal sections with small overlaps. Each original is also photographed in one exposure and is included in reduced form at the back of the book. Photographs included in the original manuscript have been reproduced xerographically in this copy. HAUS KINO KULTUR OKTOBER 2018 ÖSTERREICH ZWISCHEN 1948 GESTERN UND MORGEN SURVIVING IMAGES Theater, Film, Musik, Oper, Tanz. BACK TO THE FATHERLAND, unser Kinostart. Ein Neuanfang, der – wie so oft – mit einer Reise in die Vergangenheit startet. • Carmen Cartellieri
Carmen Cartellieri Also Known As: Franziska Ottilia Cartellieri, Carmen Teschen, Mrs. Emanuel Ziffer Edler von Teschenbruck, Mrs. Mano Ziffer-Teschenbruck Lived: June 28, 1891 - October 17, 1953 Worked as: co-screenwriter, film actress, producer, theatre actress Worked In: Austria, Germany, Hungary by Robert von Dassanowsky Carmen Cartellieri was born Franziska Ottilia Cartellieri in Prossnitz, Austria-Hungary, which is today Prostejov, Czech Republic, but spent her childhood in Innsbruck, Austria. In 1907, at age sixteen, she married the aristocratic artist-turned-director, Emanuel Ziffer Edler von Teschenbruck. Her husband and Cornelius Hintner, a cameraman from South Tyrol who had worked for Pathé in Paris and then as a director in Hungary, helped make her one of the most fashionable stars in German-language film of the 1920s. Using the stage name of Carmen Teschen, she appeared in several Hungarian silent films between 1918 and 1919 and made her Austrian film debut in Hintner’s Die Liebe vom Zigeunerstamme/The Gypsy Girl (1919), which she reportedly cowrote. Political changes in postwar Hungary made her relocate to Vienna where she returned to her exotic surname, suggesting to the press that she was born in Italy, and founded the Cartellieri-Film company in 1920 with her husband and Hintner. The first two Cartellieri-Film productions in Vienna transferred her Hungarian fame into true stardom. Carmen lernt Skifahren/Carmen Learns to Ski (1920), a broad comedy directed by her husband, now known as Mano Ziffer-Teschenbruck, was clearly aimed at gaining Cartellieri wider recognition. Die Würghand/Die Hand des Teufels/The Hand of the Devil (1920), a crime drama set in the mountains and directed by Hintner, was critically praised for its style and narrative effectiveness as well as for Cartellieri’s performance as the femme fatale.

JOURNAL OF GEOPHYSICAL RESEARCH, VOL. 117, E00L08, doi:10.1029/2012JE004154, 2012 Large impact basins on Mercury: Global distribution, characteristics, and modification history from MESSENGER orbital data Caleb I. Fassett,1 James W. Head,2 David M. H. Baker,2 Maria T. Zuber,3 David E. Smith,3,4 Gregory A. Neumann,4 Sean C. Solomon,5,6 Christian Klimczak,5 Robert G. Strom,7 Clark R. Chapman,8 Louise M. Prockter,9 Roger J. Phillips,8 Jürgen Oberst,10 and Frank Preusker10 Received 6 June 2012; revised 31 August 2012; accepted 5 September 2012; published 27 October 2012. [1] The formation of large impact basins (diameter D ≥ 300 km) was an important process in the early geological evolution of Mercury and influenced the planet’s topography, stratigraphy, and crustal structure. We catalog and characterize this basin population on Mercury from global observations by the MESSENGER spacecraft, and we use the new data to evaluate basins suggested on the basis of the Mariner 10 flybys. Forty-six certain or probable impact basins are recognized; a few additional basins that may have been degraded to the point of ambiguity are plausible on the basis of new data but are classified as uncertain. The spatial density of large basins (D ≥ 500 km) on Mercury is lower than that on the Moon. Morphological characteristics of basins on Mercury suggest that on average they are more degraded than lunar basins. These observations are consistent with more efficient modification, degradation, and obliteration of the largest basins on Mercury than on the Moon. This distinction may be a result of differences in the basin formation process (producing fewer rings), relaxation of topography after basin formation (subduing relief), or rates of volcanism (burying basin rings and interiors) during the period of heavy bombardment on Mercury from those on the Moon.

  • First Movie Studio Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles
EPISODE 4 2004 - FIRST MOVIE STUDIO LINCOLN HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES Gwen: Our last story reveals a little known story from the earliest days of movie making. The film indus- try movie stars, film studios and spectacle. It all began in the famous areas of Los Angeles like Hollywood, Burbank and Studio City. Or did it? Some 10 miles south west of the glitter, glamour and fame of Hollywood is a neighborhood you won’t find mentioned in the popular history of Hollywood. Lincoln Heights. Today’s it’s a largely Latino, residential neighborhood. But one woman has heard a legend that her local park was where LA’s movie industry really began. It’s a story that - if true - could rewrite the popular version of events. 33-year old Anita Martinez is a fourth-generation Angeleno whose family originally came from Mexico. She’s lived near the park for over 10 years. Anita Martinez: This park is Lincoln Park which is named for Lincoln Heights. I’ve been coming to this park since I was a little girl. Gwen: Just recently, Anita heard that these old park gates once formed the entrance to LA’s first movie stu- dio. Anita: There are rumors in the neighborhood from different people that have lived here for awhile, old-timers, that there actually is probably more to the history of this park than just what we see today. Gwen: I’m Gwen Wright and I’ve come to Lincoln Heights to investigate. So Anita, what would you like to know? Anita: Um, I’m interested in finding out if this gateway is the entrance to the first movie studio in Los Angeles.
