Abstract: - Translucent concrete is an innovative idea in the field of a architecture .This paper is based on this translucent concrete in which optic fiber is used as a medium of light transmission in a concrete. The main advantage of translucent concrete is to reduce openings in a building mainly for air conditioned rooms. Translucent concrete helps to transmit light from side of the wall to another side using optic fibre. Here in this project translucent concrete is made by embedding epoxy rods instead of optic fiber and checking the compressive strength, light transmitting property and cost effectiveness of translucent concrete with epoxy resin tube by comparing optic fibre translucent concrete. To avoid the casting difficulty and to reduce the weight of the product coarse aggregate is removed and light transmitting mortar cubes are made. Here 1:2 mix proportion is used for making mortar cubes which have a compressive strength of first class brick. Embedding optic fibre and epoxy resin rods in mortar cubes increases the compressive strength of conventional mortar cubes. Epoxy resin not only act as a light transmitting medium but it also increases compressive strength of conventional mortar cube. It helps to utilize sunlight which make the building green and give aesthetical beauty to the building. This paper investigate whether epoxy resin translucent mortar cube is efficient than optic fibre translucent mortar cube.

I. INTRODUCTION resin translucent mortar cube is efficient than optic fibre translucent mortar cube . Aron Losonzi a Hungarian Architect put forward the II. PROCEDURE innovative idea of transmitting light through the concrete and Materials used he named it as Litracon which was patented in 2003.Litracon is made by embedding 4% of optic fiber in the concrete To cast translucent mortar cube following materials are .Optic fibre is a light transmitting medium which make used. revolutionary change in the field of communication .But the high cost of optic fiber is a limiting factor for the using of 1) Cement: translucent concrete in a wide range. This paper is based on litracon which give aesthetical beauty to buildings and helps Portland Pozzolana Cement is used to make translucent in utilizing sunlight. The optic fibre which is costly and it is mortar cubes .PPC makes the concrete more impermeable very difficult to cast, because if optic fibre strands are not and denser as compared to OPC.PPC is less porous than properly handled there will be micro cracks in it which will OPC, making it even more resistant to chemical attack. These disadvantages PPC eliminates surface cracks due to low heat of hydration. of optic fibre can be erased by providing epoxy resin tubes instead of optic fibre. To avoid the casting difficulty and to TABLE I: PROPERTIES OF CEMENT reduce the weight of the product coarse aggregate is removed and light transmitting mortar cubes are made. Conventional mortar cube of 1:2 mix proportion have a strength almost equal to the first class brick.

D. Casting of epoxy resin rods

The mixture for casting epoxy resin rods consist of epoxy resin and hardener which are in liquid state. When this mixture get harden it will acquire the shape of the container. This mixture reaches 95% of its full cure within 24 hours, and 100% of its cure within 72 hours. Epoxy resin is casted

IV. CONCLUSION TABLE VI: LIGHT INTENSITY OF OPTIC FIBRE TRANSLUCENT MORTAR CUBE In this paper mortar cubes with optic fibre and mortar cubes containing epoxy resin is studied. Optic fibre Proportion of optic fibre Light intensity(Lux) translucent mortar cube made by embedding 4% of optic fibre .Epoxy resin translucent Mortar cubes are made with 4% 52 six different proportions of epoxy resin ,they are 0.33%,0.66%,0.99%,1.32%,1.6% and 1.9% . Embedding 2) Epoxy resin translucent mortar cube optic fibre and epoxy resin rod increases the compressive strength of conventional mortar cube. Optic fibre translucent TABLE VI: LIGHT INTENSITY OF OPTIC FIBRE mortar with 4% of optic fibre gives a compressive strength of 2 TRANSLUCENT MORTAR CUBE 12.67 N/mm after 28 days of curing. Maximum compressive strength of epoxy resin translucent mortar cube after 28 days Proportion of epoxy Light intensity curing by immersing in water and covering the cubes with resin (Lux) wet gunny bags is 8 N/mm2 and 23.33 N/mm2 .Epoxy resin used translucent mortar cube with 0.66% epoxy resin rod gives 0.33% 65 maximum compressive strength. Epoxy resin translucent 0.66% 71 mortar cube which is cured by immersing in water gives less 0.99% 75 compressive strength than curing by covering the cubes with 1.32% 87 gunny bags. When epoxy resin added to conventional mortar 1.6% 102 cube ,it will increases the compressive strength to a limit and 1.9% 109 after that limit the strength of cube decreases. When the epoxy resin rods placed in the top portion of the mortar cube C. Cost analysis gives maximum compressive strength which is greater than placing the epoxy resin rods at middle or bottom of the The optic fibre translucent mortar cube with 4% optic fibre mortar cube. This is because when epoxy resin rods placed at and epoxy resin with 0.66% epoxy resin is taken to evaluate top portion of the cube which is near to the loading surface, cost effectiveness of epoxy resin translucent mortar cube. epoxy resin rod act as a elastic material and take up the load. Amount of optic fibre required to make optic fibre Epoxy resin translucent mortar cube is more efficient in translucent mortar cube is 620.78 Rs and amount of epoxy transmitting light than optic fibre translucent mortar cube. resin required to make epoxy resin translucent mortar is 1.8 Cost of epoxy resin translucent mortar cube is less than optic Rs. The cost of optic fibre translucent mortar cube and epoxy fibre translucent mortar cube. So epoxy resin translucent resin translucent mortar cube of 50 cm2 is 622.23 Rs and mortar cube is efficient than optic fibre translucent mortar 3.672 Rs respectively. It is clear that due to the high cost of optic fibre, cost of the optic fibre translucent mortar cube is cube.Epoxy resin translucent mortar cube with have a higher compare to epoxy resin translucent mortar cube. We compressive strength greater than the strength of first class can conclude that epoxy resin translucent mortar cube is brick , so it can be used in load bearing walls and also used in more economical than optic fibre translucent mortar cube. part ion walls.
