RESUMO Esta pesquisa nasceu de meu desejo em tentar investigar, de modo mais acentuado, as sexualidades esportivas de lésbicas, gays, bissexuais, travestis e transgêneros com a chamada “masculinidade hegemônica” nos esportes. Para tanto, e por questões de delimitação teórico- metodológica, escolhi analisar as práticas sociais e simbólicas de “atletas gays” e suas negociações no tocante a tal temática, em torneios esportivos específicos. Assim, meu objetivo era refletir sobre a materialização de corpos e a produção de subjetividades destes sujeitos, articuladas com as construções sociais e discursivas de masculinidade nas competições esportivas LGBT. Utilizando-me de pressupostos da antropologia multisituada, desenvolvi trabalho de campo em três cidades-sedes dos jogos (Copenhague, Colônia e Vancouver), em momentos distintos do período doutoral regulamentar. Entrevistas, conversas, treinamentos, redes sociais, as próprias observações participantes nestas competições, levaram-me a eleição de dezoito tópicos temáticos, que se entrecruzaram e se interseccionalizaram numa escrita hipertextual. O texto é labiríntico, rizomático e se outorga o direito de não ter início, meio ou fim. Como considerações finais-chave da etnografia exploro as seguintes indagações: a) as práticas esportivas queer (dissonantes e subversivas) proporiam um novo modelo de esporte?; b) a busca pela participação internacional em competições esportivas LGBT seria parte de uma estratégia de circulação global de corpos e “capitais ejaculantes” de sujeitos participantes?; c) a relação esporte-festa-sexo , componente constituinte das contendas, corrobora com a hipótese de vivermos uma nova era no capitalismo contemporâneo, notadamente farmacopornográfica?. ABSTRACT This research has born from my desire to investigate, most notably, sexualities of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people within the "hegemonic masculinity" in the arena of sports. For this purpose (and by questions of theoretical and methodological delimitation), I have chosen to analyze social and symbolic practices of "gay athletes" and their negotiations related to this subject, at specific sports tournaments. Thus, my aim was to reflect upon the materialization of bodies and the production of subjectivities of these subjects, articulated with the social and discursive constructs of masculinity in LGBT sports competitions. Using the main assumptions of the multisited anthropology, I have conducted fieldwork in three international events (in Copenhagen, Cologne and Vancouver), at different times of the doctoral investigation. Interviews, conversations, training sessions, social networks, participant observation in all these competitions have led me to the election of eighteen thematic topics, which are intersected and written in a hypertext. This text is chaotic, rhizomatic, and grants the right to have no beginning, middle or end. As final key-considerations of the ethnography. The brainchild of former Olympic decathlete Tom Waddell, the Games were first held in San Francisco in 1982. Some 1,300 athletes participated in the first competition. Since then, the event has become a lucrative attraction that cities bid for the privilege of hosting. The Games pump millions of dollars into the host city's local economy. Waddell had originally intended to call the competition the Gay Olympics, but nineteen days before the start of the first games the United States Olympic Committee obtained a restraining order, forbidding the use of that name. The USOC asserted that it had sole rights to use the name Olympics. Waddell, noting that the USOC had raised no objections to other competitions using the name, told Sports Illustrated: "The bottom line is that if I'm a rat, a crab, a copying machine or an Armenian I can have my own Olympics. If I'm gay, I can't.'' Waddell, who died from complications of AIDS in 1987, conceived the Games as a means of promoting the spirit of inclusion and healthy competition in athletics. As his biographer Dick Schaap explains, "Tom wanted to emphasize that gay men were men, not that they were gay, and that lesbian women were women, not that they were lesbians.

The Gay Games is one example of this. The first Gay Games in 1982 had 1,300 participants. By 1994, the Gay Games drew 11,000 participants. In three articles, this master’s thesis examines various aspects of gays and lesbians in sports. The first article covers the Gay Games. It includes information about its supporters and protestors, a brief history and a look ahead to the upcoming Gay Games and beyond. The second article profiles a rugby player on the Carolina Kodiaks, one of two gay rugby teams in North Carolina. The third article examines how journalists, especially those in sports departments, cover LGBT issues. The thesis aims to explore the issues of the gay and lesbian community as they pursue sports and to show that LGBT issues in sport will become more important as society becomes more tolerant.

    NEWSLETTER - VOLUME XI - No. II – December 2009 Adoptive Parents Aren’t Second Best By Robert Leckey Professor of family law at McGill University This week, Quebec's Minister of Justice, Kathleen Weil, tabled a draft bill proposing (among other things) sweeping changes to the province's adoption law. The minister framed the changes as a progressive response to societal changes. The proposals are complex and call for careful study during the consultations by the National Assembly. A key feature of the draft bill is a distinction between “open” and “simple” adoptions. Intentionally or not, the proposal for simple adoptions marks a serious departure from Quebec's established family law and advances a conservative view of family. In open adoptions, adoption would still cut the legal tie between children and their birth parents, replacing them with the new adoptive parents. But the adoptive parents could sign an agreement allowing for continuing contact between the birth parents and the child. Open adoptions reject the traditional model of confidentiality and secrecy that mattered much more when society stigmatized children born out of wedlock as illegitimate. Many children adopted today have been in child or youth protection. These kids know their birth families. They know that they're being adopted, so the secrecy of the old closed model can't apply. The proposal for open adoption requires an examination of its potential to undermine the adoptive parents' relationship with their child. But at least it responds directly to the minister's concern about social changes. The more troubling proposal is the option of simple adoption.

    The FA Action Plan for including lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGB&T) people in football 2012-2016 ‘WE ALL HAVE A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY’ Over the past 15 years football has made enormous progress tackling racism from the grassroots to the highest levels of the nation’s favourite game. We can rightly be proud of the excellent work of the football family and our partners, but just as we remain committed to combating racism, we all have a collective responsibility to eradicate all forms of discrimination from the game. Since becoming Chairman of The FA, I have been impressed by the commitment of all in football, from the grassroots to the professional game, to ensuring that football remains accessible to everyone. As the nation’s favourite game it is essential that football is open to all, irrelevant of race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality or any other factor. It is this essential commitment that underpins The FA’s Equality objectives and I am pleased to share with you our Action Plan for Inclusion and Anti-Homophobia.
