The Constant Times The Constant Times Volume 1, Issue 2 May/June 2012 Parish Matters Robert Williams The recent terrible fire near the village square received regional newscast, but this was outdone by the national reports of the planning application to declare a shed near High Cross as a legal dwelling. Local residents objected and the matter is still under consideration, as is a similar application at Cala- mansack, near Port Navas. Also, the Parish considered a proposal for a housing estate outside Port Navas, which was thought to be unsuitable. Car parking was also on the agenda, as the tortuous extension to the Church Hall space is nearing completion. Thanks to our County Councillor Neil Hatton, who extracted £3000 from the County Highways, the Parish purse was so much the heavier. Elsewhere, inconsiderate parking led to complaints which were transmitted to the same authority. It is with satisfaction that we are not af- fected by the County's increase in car parking charges, as ours are free at the point of use (if not to the rate payers). Not so to the costs of burials, which have been raised considerably County-wide. The Parish received a proposal to increase its tariff substantially but decided on only minor changes. Crimes have been of a minor sort, but not so to those concerned. Driving acci- dents can cause injuries as well as fines; an assault is always unwelcome to the victim and thefts an inconvenience, if not worse, to the losers. Happily, some offenders get sentenced, as has happened recently to the house trashers at Wheal Vyvyan. -

ANNUAL REVIEW 2015/2016 Gwytha ha Crefhe! 30 years preserving and strengthening our Cornish heritage In the early 1980’s there was a growing concern that too much of the Cornish heritage was under threat from potential private buyers. Two such sites were Land’s End and Lamorna Cove and there was no organisation in Cornwall with the ability to raise the funds required to save the sites. On the 19th February 1983 a group of people got together with the idea of forming such an organisation with the aim of saving buildings, ancient artifacts and important heritage sites. It was the irst of regular meetings, held at the Royal Hotel in Truro, and the Oficers elected were Acting Chairman The Honourable Robert Eliot, Acting Vice Chairman Mrs June Lander, Secretary Mr John Menhinick, Assistant Secretary Mr Jack Spry and the Treasurer Mr Tim Le Grice. At the meeting it was unanimously agreed that Mr Kenneth Kendall be elected as the irst Patron. Subsequent meetings eventually resulted in the Our Education portfolio includes projects with Primary appointments of The Honourable Robert Eliot as Chairman schools and the funding of transport for class visits to with Mrs Moira Tangye as Vice Chairman, The Hon. St Hilary Neighbourhood Development Plan Survey review & feedback Amy Walker, CRCC St Hilary Parish Neighbourhood Plan – Survey Feedback St Hilary Parish Council applied for designation to undertake a Neighbourhood Plan in December 2015. The Neighbourhood Plan community questionnaire was distributed to all households in March 2017. All returned questionnaires were delivered to CRCC in July and input to Survey Monkey in August. The main findings from the questionnaire are identified below, followed by full survey responses, for further consideration by the group in order to progress the plan. Questionnaire responses: 1. a) Which area of the parish do you live in, or closest to? We started on Monday with the brilliant news that over £413.50 was raised by the PTA on our Festive Friday. Thank you to all of the organisers and everyone who supported the event. On Wednesday we had the Christingle Service which was absolutely lovely - thanks again to Father Stewart, Mrs Micklem and all of the Year 6 readers. Many thanks also for the donations for the Children’s Society. Christmas Lunch was once again delicious – an epic achievement by Jasmin and Anna in the kitchen. As ever the KS1 Nativity performances were absolutely magical – well done to all of the KS1 staff involved and particularly Mr Anjari for scripting and leading rehearsals. The children performed superbly and really spread the Christmas spirit. Today everyone has been wearing Christmas jumpers to raise money for Save the Children. I know all of the donations will be very gratefully received. So here I am writing my last newsletter at Constantine School. -
