Sin pantalla, sin proyector: sólo en la imaginación del oyente, la cual solicita a la manera de una película de super-8. El equipo técnico de este talentoso autor/realizador/director de escena/intérprete comprende también piano de juguete, acordeón, violoncelo, banjo, clavicordio... Toca todos estos instrumentos y conoce sus engranajes, en particular aquellos que suscitan la emoción. Pues si la música de Yann Tiersen extrae su inspiración de lo íntimo y recóndito, a su vez habla a todos aquellos que conocen la lengua de las notas. A nivel de puesta en escena, Tiersen también es autor de largos planos secuencias a la manera de pequeños sainetes acerca de viajes, melancolías, fantasías y fiestas. El artista da nombre a estas imágenes poderosamente evocadoras (La rupture, L'arrivée sur l'île, Les jours hereux, Sur le fil...), y conmina a cada cual a reconstruir la historia o a apreciarlas como lo que son. Natural de Brest, Yann manifestó muy pronto un vivo interés por la música. En los pupitres de los conservatorios de Rennes, Nantes o Boulogne, estudió violoncelo, piano y dirección de orquesta. Como todo joven se interesa igualmente por el rock y por la chanson antes de regresar con su primer amor: la música clásica. Tras haber ilustrado piezas de teatro y cortometrajes, en 1995 franquea la prueba del primer álbum con La Valse des Monstres, gracias al reencuentro con el sello Sine Terra Firme (hoy en día rebautizado Ici, d'ailleurs...).

Jeho multižánrové tracky vychádzali spo čiatku na menších tane čných labeloch, postupne však prešiel k tým vplyvným ako Warp alebo Planet Mu a nedávno podpísal zmluvu s Ninja Tune. Eskmova hudba zah ŕň a širokú škálu elektronických štýlov, preto sa vzpiera akejko ľvek klasifikácii. Je rovnako vzrušujúca ako transformatívna.     False Readings On: An Interview With Eluvium Music | Bittles’ Magazine: The music column from the end of the world 2016 is shaping up to be a vintage year for ambient music. Fantastic releases by Pye Corner Audio, 2814, Thomas Ragsdale, MJ Guider, Huerco S and Diamondstein illustrate how exciting this genre can be. With a whole generation of acid house disciples reaching an age where going to a club is more of a pain in the ass than a joy, it seems there has never been a better time for indulging in all things chilled. In September, renowned experimental composer Eluvium reaffirms this view with the melancholic swoon of his brand new LP. By JOHN BITTLES Eluvium – by Noel Javier Eluvium is the mysterious sounding alias of Portland, Oregon resident Matthew Cooper. His work is filled with heavenly voices, ghostly static, and emotional synths which occasionally touch upon the sublime. Matthew, who also records together with Mark T. Smith from Explosions In The Sky as Inventions has, over the years, created a rich and varied body of work. As great as previous releases such as Talk Amongst The Trees, Similes, and Nightmare Ending are though, his new record, False Readings On, may just be his most personal and fully realised album yet. Songs such as Fugue State, Regenerative Being and Rorschach Pavan brim with sonic grandeur, while also maintaining an emotional intensity that will cause jaws to drop and hearts to leap. At its best, the album merges the warmth of 90s electronica, the static driven dirges of Kyle Bobby Dunn, lonesome melodies and choral vocals to craft an intense, cerebral and moving journey that you never want to end.

    Hipster Black Metal? Deafheaven’s Sunbather and the Evolution of an (Un) popular Genre Paola Ferrero A couple of months ago a guy walks into a bar in Brooklyn and strikes up a conversation with the bartenders about heavy metal. The guy happens to mention that Deafheaven, an up-and-coming American black metal (BM) band, is going to perform at Saint Vitus, the local metal concert venue, in a couple of weeks. The bartenders immediately become confrontational, denying Deafheaven the BM ‘label of authenticity’: the band, according to them, plays ‘hipster metal’ and their singer, George Clarke, clearly sports a hipster hairstyle. Good thing they probably did not know who they were talking to: the ‘guy’ in our story is, in fact, Jonah Bayer, a contributor to Noisey, the music magazine of Vice, considered to be one of the bastions of hipster online culture. The product of that conversation, a piece entitled ‘Why are black metal fans such elitist assholes?’ was almost certainly intended as a humorous nod to the ongoing debate, generated mainly by music webzines and their readers, over Deafheaven’s inclusion in the BM canon. The article features a promo picture of the band, two young, clean- shaven guys, wearing indistinct clothing, with short haircuts and mild, neutral facial expressions, their faces made to look like they were ironically wearing black and white make up, the typical ‘corpse-paint’ of traditional, early BM. It certainly did not help that Bayer also included a picture of Inquisition, a historical BM band from Colombia formed in the early 1990s, and ridiculed their corpse-paint and black cloaks attire with the following caption: ‘Here’s what you’re defending, black metal purists.

Black Emperor, and the pioneering Thisquietarmy music project. The Canadian duo works in great synergy on the possibility of expanded cinema. An alchemy of cinema and sound, working on the matter and on devices (16mm film projectors/electricity, guitar and pedals) for a journey that explores the possibilities hidden in the image and its serial essence.
