A Talented Boy Called Roberto
ITALY A talented boy called Roberto Alessandro Gandolfi Vercelli Dance Academy, pupils listen during a lesson. Vercelli is a small town in Italy with a ballet academy that discovered the international star Roberto Bolle The most talented ballet dancers often come from the provinces. And, in the case of Italy, schools (there are more than 20,000) are genuine incubators for talent. They introduce children to music and rhythm, teaching them classical techniques and nudging the best – at the ages of 11 and 12 – towards the most prestigious academies. This is precisely what happened to Roberto Bolle, who went on to become the primo ballerino, or first dancer, at Milan’s La Scala in 1996, at the age of 20. Since then he has had leading roles with the Royal Ballet in London and has been the Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theatre in New York, in addition to performing with the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and numerous other companies around the world. He is an international star and a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. And yet the seeds of this glorious career were sown in a small provincial town in Northern Italy in the 1980s when Roberto was still a child. The name of the town is Vercelli and it was here that a young Spanish ballerina, Pilar Sampietro, moved after falling in love with an Italian. She set up a ballet academy where her pupils included Roberto. Sadly, Pilar is no longer with us, having passed away in 2015, but the Vercelli Dance Academy lives on and it continues to produce talented youngsters. -

News from Elmhurst Patron HRH The Duchess of Cornwall Summer 2014 Welcome... It seems like just yesterday that we celebrated the successes of last year and already we are preparing to welcome back the students for yet another great year. Danza: Addio All'étoile Carla Fracci
Primo piano - Danza: addio all'étoile Carla Fracci Milano - 27 mag 2021 (Prima Pagina News) Aveva 84 anni. -

The Royal Ballet Celebrates American Choreographers George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins
27 May 2021 #OurHouseToYourHouse Fundraising for our future The Royal Ballet celebrates American choreographers George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins The Royal Ballet celebrates the rich history of American ballet in classic works by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins, two choreographic giants of the 20th century. Balanchine and Robbins open’s on 4 June and is live streamed on 11 June at 7.30pm priced £16. The programme includes two classic works by Balanchine; Apollo and Tchaikovsky Pas De Deux. Apollo was created for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in 1928 and is regarded as a masterpiece of neoclassicism in its striking depiction of the young god of music and his three muses. Set to music by Igor Stravinsky the ballet was last performed by The Company in 2014. In 1960 Balanchine created Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux for New York City Ballet. The ballet is a showcase of technical challenges and bravura and is set to a long-lost movement from Tchaikovsky’s original score for Swan Lake. Jerome Robbins played a crucial role in the development of American ballet as a contemporary of Balanchine and as an influential figure in Broadway. His 1969 ballet Dances at a Gathering is an ode to pure dance, set to music by Chopin. While plotless, the intimacy of the ballet creates a powerful sense of community which promises to resonate powerfully with audiences and dancers again following its revival in 2020 just before lockdown. This programme features a host of debuts by Royal Ballet Principals Fumi Kaneko, Yasmine Naghdi, Matthew Ball, Cesar Corrales and Vadim Muntagirov and First Soloists Claire Calvert, Melissa Hamilton, Mayara Magri, Anna Rose O’Sullivan and Reece Clarke The event will be broadcast live via the Royal Opera House website on Friday 11 June at 7.30pm, priced at £16.00 per household and will be available to watch on demand until 10 July. -
L'histoire Du Soldat Little Summer Music
THE MUSIC MAKERS in collaboration with In collaboration with Normunds Šnē, conductor Thiago Bordin, choreographer presents L’Histoire du Soldat Igor Stravinsky Little Summer Music Pēteris Vasks Dance • Music • Drama “Most people today no longer possess beliefs, love, and ideals. The spiritual dimension has been lost. My intention is to provide food for the soul, and this is what I preach in my works.” – Pēteris Vasks Overview This collaborative chamber production focuses on work by two composers whose oeuvres have explored the topics of humanistic ideals and the realities of human nature. Igor Stravinsky, born in Oranienbaum, a Baltic resort near St. Petersburg, and Pēteris Vasks, who grew up in post-war Soviet Latvia, were from different generations – Vasks was just 25 years old when Stravinsky died in 1971 at 88. They are important creative voices of their respective generations, both deeply influenced by the rich folk traditions of Eastern Europe and the all too real perils of their times. Stravinsky voiced his concerns about war and the fateful choices we make while Vasks has been driven by mankind’s assault on the environment. Both Igor Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat and Pēteris Vasks’ Little Summer Music features the premiere performances of new choreography by critically acclaimed dancer-choreographer Thiago Bordin. The production is realized by an internationally renowned group of collaborators: violinists Vadim Gluzman, Liza Ferschtman, and Marc Bouchkov; pianist Angela Yoffe; dancers Silvia Azzoni, Alexandre Riabko, Marijn Rademaker; conductor Normunds Šnē and members of the Sinfonietta Riga. THE MUSIC MAKERS The Music Maker’s signature nstage/offstage forum allows for a dynamic and candid dialogue between these artists and your audience.
