  • Transitions Dance Company
PRESS RELEASE Send date Transitions Dance Company: Triple Bill Trinity Laban’s leading student training company showcases dancers in three brand new works from established choreographers Choreographed by Dog Kennel Hill Project, Theo Clinkard and Ederson Rodrigues Xavier UK Tour 19 February – 27 May “Performances by this enterprising company are always an eye-opener.” (Guardian Guide) Transitions Dance Company’s triple bill showcases the next generation of contemporary dance performers from Trinity Laban with twelve MA students performing three brand new pieces from choreographers Dog Kennel Hill Project, Theo Clinkard and Ederson Rodrigues Xavier. Since it was founded in 1982 by original Martha Graham Dance Company member Bonnie Bird, this pioneering company has aimed to bridge the gap between training and a professional performance career for graduate dancers. Transitions Dance Company aims to allow company members to gain practical experience of life in a touring dance company whilst simultaneously completing their MA Dance Performance. Past alumni of the company include distinguished artists such as Sir Matthew Bourne (New Adventures), Luca Silvestrini (Luca Silvestrini’s Protein), and Emma Gladstone (Artistic Director and Chief Executive of Dance Umbrella). Fieldwork from performance and research collective Dog Kennel Hill Project explores how, as a newly formed company, the dancers locate themselves now and in relation to their past. Through a deconstructed series of arrivals and departures and a language of stumbles, false starts, surges and going round in circles, Fieldwork asks “when do we truly arrive anywhere?” my dance, your touch draws upon research that outlines how physical touch affects our behavioural, cultural, emotional and biological development.

  • History Timeline from 13.7 Billion Years Ago to August 2013. 1 of 588 Pages This PDF History Timeline Has Been Extracted
History Timeline from 13.7 Billion Years ago to August 2013. 1 of 588 pages This PDF History Timeline has been extracted from the History World web site's time line. The PDF is a very simplified version of the History World timeline. The PDF is stripped of all the links found on that timeline. If an entry attracts your interest and you want further detail, click on the link at the foot of each of the PDF pages and query the subject or the PDF entry on the web site, or simply do an internet search. When I saw the History World timeline I wanted a copy of it for myself and my family in a form that we could access off-line, on demand, on the device of our choice. This PDF is the result. What attracted me particularly about the History World timeline is that each event, which might be earth shattering in itself with a wealth of detail sufficient to write volumes on, and indeed many such events have had volumes written on them, is presented as a sort of pared down news head-line. Basic unadorned fact. Also, the History World timeline is multi-faceted. Most historic works focus on their own area of interest and ignore seemingly unrelated events, but this timeline offers glimpses of cross-sections of history for any given time, embracing art, politics, war, nations, religions, cultures and science, just to mention a few elements covered. The view is fascinating. Then there is always the question of what should be included and what excluded.

  • A Talented Boy Called Roberto
ITALY A talented boy called Roberto Alessandro Gandolfi Vercelli Dance Academy, pupils listen during a lesson. Vercelli is a small town in Italy with a ballet academy that discovered the international star Roberto Bolle The most talented ballet dancers often come from the provinces. And, in the case of Italy, schools (there are more than 20,000) are genuine incubators for talent. They introduce children to music and rhythm, teaching them classical techniques and nudging the best – at the ages of 11 and 12 – towards the most prestigious academies. This is precisely what happened to Roberto Bolle, who went on to become the primo ballerino, or first dancer, at Milan’s La Scala in 1996, at the age of 20. Since then he has had leading roles with the Royal Ballet in London and has been the Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theatre in New York, in addition to performing with the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and numerous other companies around the world. He is an international star and a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. And yet the seeds of this glorious career were sown in a small provincial town in Northern Italy in the 1980s when Roberto was still a child. The name of the town is Vercelli and it was here that a young Spanish ballerina, Pilar Sampietro, moved after falling in love with an Italian. She set up a ballet academy where her pupils included Roberto. Sadly, Pilar is no longer with us, having passed away in 2015, but the Vercelli Dance Academy lives on and it continues to produce talented youngsters.
