However, students will need to show an IGO pass to travel at the concessionary (reduced) fare. If students do not have an IGO pass, they will have to pay a higher fare. Most of the journeys shown in this timetable are funded by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM). The majority of TfGM funded services charge a standard fare and also offer daily return tickets. In some cases, the return ticket can also be used for travel on other journeys which serve similar areas – even if it is provided by a different operator. On most services, students can also buy a weekly scholar’s ticket, which costs £7.40. These are ONLY valid on schooldays on school buses and are available from the bus driver on all services where they are applicable. To help the driver, please try to have the correct fare when buying your ticket. A summary of fares and ticketing information on all school services included in this timetable can be found at http://www.tfgm.com/journey_planning/Pages/back-to-school.aspx There are also a small number of TfGM funded services where the operator sets the fares. You will need to check with the operator what fares are available. Yellow School Buses This timetable also shows the journeys operated by Yellow School Buses. Yellow School Bus journeys have special travel conditions and can only be used by students who hold a Yellow School Bus pass which is valid for that journey. Students who wish to use a Yellow School Bus should go to http://www.tfgm.com/buses/yellowschoolbus/Pages/default.aspx for details on how to apply for a pass. The IGO Pass All students between the ages of 11 and 16 need an IGO pass if they wish to travel at the concessionary (reduced fare) rate on buses. The IGO pass is like an ID card and proves that the student is aged 16 or under. It must be carried on all journeys and shown to the driver before paying the fare. The IGO pass costs £10 and can only be bought by students who live, or go to school in Greater Manchester. So, looking forward to receiving some interesting news from you. We all love baked beans and probably find them a good standby, when we don’t know what to have for a meal. So here is a short history of them. In 1886 Heinz Baked Beans were first sold at the Fortnum & Mason department store in London. After opening the first overseas office in London in 1896, the company opened its first UK factory in Peckham, south London, in 1905. This was followed by a second factory at Harlesden, north-west London in 1919. Production was started at a former munition’s factory at Standish near Wigan in 1946. A new factory opened in Kitt Green, also near Wigan, in 1958. Between 1941 and 1948, the Ministry of Food classified Heinz Baked Beans as an “essential food” as part of its wartime rationing system. The Heinz factory in Kitt Green is one of the largest food factories in Europe, and produced more than 1 billion cans of food every year. In the United States, Heinz Baked Beans had for many years only been available as grey imports in “British Goods” speciality stores. As of October 2016, they are now available as official imports in many US supermarkets and speciality stores, with a label similar to the older British label, but customised for the US market (US spelling and US Nutrition Facts).

    Patterns of poverty in Greater Manchester’s neighbourhoods Analysis of small area poverty estimates for 2014 Inclusive Growth Analysis Unit, May 2017 Patterns of poverty in Greater Manchester’s neighbourhoods In April 2017 the Office for National Statistics published a set of model-based estimates of poverty for Middle Layer Super Output Areas in England and Wales in 2013/14. 1 These estimates can be used to assess differences in the proportion of households in poverty across small areas. This note outlines our initial analysis of the data for Greater Manchester. A short glossary note is included at the end, describing key terms. It should be noted that these are modelled estimates which are subject to wide confidence intervals. In Moss Side, for example, 25.8% of households were estimated to be in poverty, with a lower confidence limit of 18.5% and an upper limit of 34.6%. While the estimates offer insight into geographical patterns of disadvantage, detailed analysis of differences between specific neighbourhoods would not be appropriate. As a guide, the ONS estimates that only the 22% of MSOAs with the highest poverty rates are significantly different from the 22% in the lowest ranks.2 What is the scale of poverty at neighbourhood level in Greater Manchester? Figure 1: Poverty rates before and after housing costs across Greater Manchester 20143 BEFORE HOUSING COSTS AFTER HOUSING COSTS Across the 346 MSOAs in Greater Manchester the average (median) household poverty rate Before Housing Costs (BHC) was 16.1% in 2014. This means that on average just under 1 in 6 of the households living in these areas were income poor (BHC).

This is an important time for parents and children and we want to help as much as we can. This booklet contains a lot of information which I hope will help you make your application and, whenever possible, avoid disappointment. It is important you take the time to read all the information carefully before you apply, even if you have already decided which schools you prefer. We will try to give you your preferred school, but schools have a limited number of places. If we receive more applications than places, we use our admission criteria to decide who will get a place. The admission numbers and admission criteria for Wigan schools are given in this booklet. Our website at www.wigan.gov.uk has a link to school admissions and other useful sites. You can use this site to apply for a secondary school place on-line. There are more details about this in the booklet. Each school also produces its own prospectus which contains a lot of information about that school. Wigan currently has the 6th highest total rate in GM. • Wigan is currently ranked 133rd in England. • Wigan is classed as Red for new cases. The outbreak management surge plan has been updated and activated. • The over-60s weekly incidence rate for Wigan is the highest of the 10 Greater Manchester areas. • Wigan is similar to the Greater Manchester average and lower than the North West average for rate of new cases in the latest 7 days. • As at 21st September, there were 19 COVID-positive patients in Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh hospitals. • There have been 2 COVID–19 related deaths registered in Wigan so far in the latest week th (w/e 10 September). Weekly Cases and Rates COVID-19 cases are identified by taking specimens from people and sending them to laboratories around the UK to be tested. If the test is positive, this is a referred to as a lab-confirmed case. Pillar 1 refers to tests that have been carried out in labs run by Public Health England or the NHS (usually for inpatients and frontline workers in the NHS), Pillar 2 refers to tests delivered by commercial partners (usually for the general public).
