PROF. EMMANUEL ASANTE, PRESIDENT OF BIBLE SOCIETY OF GHANA n behalf of the Council, staff and entire membership of the Bible Society of Ghana, I welcome you all to the 2014 OABLI forum, particularly our dear friends and colleagues from outside Ghana to the warmth and friendship of our land. The Bible Society of Ghana is privileged to host this august Forum that seeks to promote the use of the Bible as a tool for leadership and ultimately, societal transformation. We are grateful that you consented to join us and the Church to promote clean, transparent and inspirational leadership and to discuss the valuable wisdom and guidance that the Bible offers to leaders with respect to socio-economic leadership in our countries of Africa and life on development, justice and integrity. the Continent in general. This usually includes Keynote Presentations in plenary as well as seminars and workshops in addition to making room for sessions for networking and prayer. Past participants have included Church leaders and Pastors, doctors, professors, finance experts and businesswomen and men as well as Youth from different walks of life. In Addis Ababa, ABLI was held in conjunction with the AU Summit and culminated in the hosting of the Bible and Prayer Breakfast for Heads of States, Diplomats, Ministers and other State and Church leaders. At this gathering, passages of scripture were shared and prayers were said for Africa. In 2014, ABLI will be hosted by the Bible Society of Ghana under the patronage of the Head of State, the leadership of Parliament, the Chief Justice and the leadership of the Church in Ghana. The Youth will feature in a special programme at ABLI. In addition to Leadership in general, sub-themes will include good governance, corruption, integrity and discipline in national life. ABLI 2014 promises to be exciting and the atmosphere will, like in the past, be characterized by optimistic faith and the obvious determination to see positive change in Africa and beyond. ABLI 2014 will be moderated by Lord Paul Boateng who has been the Moderator of past ABLI Forums LORD PAUL BOATENG Moderator of ABLI FORUM ord Paul Boateng is a British Labour Party Politician, who was the Member of Parliament(MP) for Brent South from 1987 to 2005, becoming the United Kingdom’s first mixed race Cabinet Minister in May 2002, when he was Lappointed as Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Following his de- parture from the House of Commons, he served as the British High Commissioner to South Africa from March 2005 to May 2009. On 28th May, 2010, it was announced in the 2010 Dissolution Honours that Lord Boateng would become a member of the House of Lords. He was introduced as Lord Paul Boateng of Akyem and Wembley on 1st July 2010. Lord Boateng is an active Methodist and Methodist lay preach- er; he served as a Methodist delegate to the World Council of Churches and as Vice –Moderator of its programme to combat racism. He also serves on the executive board of the internation Christian charity, Food for the Hungry. Currently, Lord Paul Yaw Boateng is the Moderator of the African Biblical Leadership Initiative (ABLI)Forum. Th is loss brings to mind the Akan proverb which says: Nea onipa pe na owu nso pe (What man likes, death also likes). We mourn a truly famous man, whose life and work will be celebrated and recounted for a long time to come. Born on 7 July 1945, Kwame Bediako had his basic education in Ghana. He graduated with a Bach- elor of Arts at the University of Ghana, Legon in French. He pursed Masters and Doctoral degrees in French and French African Literature at the University of Bordeaux, France, in the late 1960s. While in France he had a dramatic experience with Christ which saw him being converted from atheism to a fervent Christian life. Th is experience led him to the conviction that intel- lectual life without Christ was futile. Consequently, he decided to spend his life in Christian ministry as a scholar. He therefore started formal theological studies at the London School of Th eology from 1973 to 1976. In 1978, he off ered for the ordained ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.     Ebusuapanyin Dentist Poku Goes ‘Home’ ews of the demise of Dr. Fancis Yaw Apiagyei Poku, immediate past Ebusuapanyin of MOBA Nappeared on the various MOBA Year Group WhatsApp plaorms by mid-day on Saturday 26th January 2019. For those who knew he was sick, it was not too much of a surprise. However, for the majority of 'Old Boys' the news came as a big shock! In line with Ghanaian tradion, the current Ebusuapanyin, Capt. Paul Forjoe led a delegaon to visit the family to commiserate with them. MOBA was also well represented at the one-week celebraon at his residence at Abelenkpe, Accra. To crown it, MOBA organised a Special Remembrance Service in his honour at the Calvary Methodist Church in Adabraka, Accra. A host of 'Old Boys' thronged the grounds of the Christ Church Anglican Church at the University of Ghana, Legon on Saturday 24th April 2019 for the Burial Service and more importantly to pay their last respects to the man who had done so much for Mfantsipim and MOBA. 'Beyond the rivers of Ethiopia': Pentecostal Pan-Africanism and Ghanaian identities in thé transnational domain Rijk van Dijk Rev. Mensa Otabil, the founder of the International Central Gospel Church in Accra, is considered an influential représentative of a new Pentecostal-inspired Pan-Africanist ideology. His book 'Beyond thé Rivers of Ethiopia ' lays thé foundations of a Pentecostal Liberation Theology that proclaims a Christiamzed sequel to Pan-Africamsm. Operating from Ghana, his ideas for Africa and for 'black consciousness' have spread to Ghanaian migrant commumties Worldwide. While Otabil has been successful in transforming ownership of the intellectualist production of Pan-Afncanism by tailoring it to thé needs of thé ordinary Pentecostal believer, it has not been adopted so extensively among all Ghanaian migrant communities in the West. By exploring Ghanaian migrant communities and their Pentecostal churches in the Netherlands, where the staunch identity politics of the Dutch government leave little room for thé assertive proclamation of 'Africanness ', this chapter demonstrates that Otabil 's ideas do not act as a main source of inspiration everywhere in the Ghanaian diaspora.

    African Initiated Christianity and the Decolonisation of Development This book investigates the substantial and growing contribution which African Independent and Pentecostal Churches are making to sustainable development in all its manifold forms. Moreover, this volume seeks to elucidate how these churches reshape the very notion of sustainable development and contribute to the decolonisation of development. Fostering both overarching and comparative perspectives, the book includes chapters on West Africa (Nigeria, Ghana, and Burkina Faso) and Southern Africa (Zimbabwe and South Africa). It aims to open up a subfield focused on African Initiated Christianity within the religion and development discourse, substantially broadening the scope of the existing literature.
