(Lepidoptera : Lycaenidae) G. C. Bozano Viale Romagna 76, 1-20133 Milano, Italy Summary Satyrium redae sp.n. is described from South Gansu, China. The anatomical and morphological characters are typical of the genus Satyrium (Scudder, 1876) except the presence of a dark white-edged bar at the end of the cell on the fore- and hindwing underside. The new species is compared with Satyrium v-album (Oberthür, 1886) and S. iyonis (Ota & Kusunoki, 1957). Résumé Description de Satyrium redae sp.n. du Kansu méridional en Chine. Les caractères anatomiques et morphologiques sont typiques du genre Satyrium (Scudder, 1878), sauf la présence d'une barre foncée à bords blancs à l'extrémité de la cellule sur la face inférieure des ailes antérieures et postérieures. Comparaison de la nouvelle espèce avec Satyrium v-album (Oberthür, 1886) et S. iyonis (Ota & Kusunoki, 1957). Seven males of a previously undescribed species of Satyrium (Scudder, 1876) were collected on June 3 1991 at Huixian, South Gansu, China, at an altitude of 1250 m. Huixian is located on the western side of the Qin Ling mountain ridge and is the southernmost locality on the road connecting Baoji (Shaanxi Region) to Tianshui (Gansu Region). Satyrium redae sp.n. Holotype : Male ; "Huixian, mt. 1250, South Gansu, China, 3. VI. 1991". Deposited in the Museo di Storia Naturale A. Doria, Genoa, Italy. Paratypes : 4 males, same locality and date, in coll. -

The classification for Afrotropical butterflies is placed within a worldwide context to subtribal level. Taxa that still require interrogation are highlighted. The average elevation of the forest is around 90m. The altitude however ranges from 70–300 m. The reserve falls between Golaghat and elevation forests of Panbari Reserve, Kaziranga - West Karb Anglong (KA) districts of Assam. To the north of Karbi Hills, upper Assam is reported in this paper. Abd-Ella* Plant Protection Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Assiut University, 71526 Assiut, Egypt Abstract The pomegranate butterfly, Virachola livia (Klug) (Lepidoptera: Lycanidae), is one of the most important pests in Egypt. Under pomegranate field conditions, the study was conducted from 2012 to 2013 to compare the efficacy of methoxyfenozide, pyridalyl and emamectin benzoate against pomegranate butterfly in cultivated and reclaimed lands at Assiut Governorate, Egypt. These insecticides demonstrated a significant low infestation of the pomegranate butterfly during 2012 and 2013 seasons compared to control field. Emamectin benzoate and pyridalyl were found to be highly effective for controlling V. livia with an average infestation of 0.33- 4.33% and 1.00- 6.67% compared to methoxyfenozide (0.33- 17.67%) in both cultivated and reclaimed lands, respectively. Data indicated that, the infestation was higher in the cultivated land than reclaimed land during 2012 and 2013 seasons. The change in temperature and relative humidity may affect the susceptibility of pomegranate fruits to the infestation by V. livia. In addition, results showed that all pomegranate trees under treated field had a significant increase in the average weight fruits by about 70-90% compared to control field. -

However, the experiment was conducted on biology of pomegranate fruit borer at the laboratory of Division of Entomology and Nematology, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Hessaraghatta, Bengaluru during 2013-14. Biological studies revealed that gravid female lays shiny white eggs singly on the calyx of flowers or on young fruits. The incubation, larval, prepupal and pupal periods were 7.15 ± 0.10, 32.9 ± 2.38, 4.35 ± 0.12 and 10.25 ± 0.10 days respectively. The adult longevity of male and female was 8.26 ± 0.14 and 10.28 ± 0.20 days respectively. -

For those of you looking for accommodation in Knysna, Dave forwarded the flowing link: Places to stay in Knysna We have found, at recent LepSoc Africa Conferences, that presentation of the annual reports of various LSA officers takes up most, if not all, of the three-hours that have traditionally been allocated to the Annual General Meeting. At last year’s conference in Hermannsburg, there was dissatisfaction about the time available for general discussion among members present at the meeting. This year, we are going to do it differently! Using the approach that has been adopted by the Entomological Society of Southern Africa (Entsocsa), the reports of office bearers will be circulated to the entire LepSoc Africa membership at least two weeks before the AGM. At the AGM, a condensed summary of the various reports will be presented for ratification, following which there will be a brief discussion. Significant issues, that require resolution at the AGM, should be raised by LSA members prior to the meeting and the salient points submitted for discussion under Matters Arising. Missing Links… A few people pointed out that a couple of the links in July’s newsletter didn’t work. I’ve corrected this below: Colotis ungemachi Arnold Schultze Steve Collins noted that, in July’s newsletter, I’d correctly captioned a photo from Sudheer Kommana as Baliochila hildegarda, but that this species is not found in Ghana as I’d indicated. -
