There is also a refreshing +/-10 page Quick Tariff. Both are available in Excel and PDF. Lastly, the Burgundy En Primeur (EP) offer comes out each January. Just tell us which you want. Searchability: Both Excel and PDF versions are fully searchable by any keyword. E.g., by region, grower, country, grape, vintage, organic, tvv, vegan, etc. To search in EXCEL , hit 'CTRL+F'. Or, click on 'Find & Select', choose option 'Find.' Enter search word. Click 'Find All.' You can then continue clicking 'Find Next' until results are exhausted. To search the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader, again, hit 'CTRL+F'. Or, click on the magnifying glass search icon. Or, click on tab 'Edit', and select option 'Find'. Enter search word. Done. Focus selections and 'runners': At the back of the list are our current lists of 'running wines' based solely on price. This is followed by dozens of focus selections of wines with special attributes, e.g. ungrafted, unsulphited, tres vieilles vignes , long elevage, high altitude, new arrivals, etc. Provenance, maturing stocks & old exchange rates: Traditional stockholders, we have large, well stored stocks, some bought at old cost prices and exchange rates. We can therefore pass on some amazing values. We ship ~99% of our wines from producers, avoiding risk of fakes, poor shipping &/or storage. Environmental footprint: In 2021, of the ~235 producers we often ship from (excluding Bordeaux GCCs), 53% farm according to organic &/or biodynamic principles, 48% with certification. A further 36% are in sustainable agriculture as a minimum; 5% are from mixed sources. The dominant trend by far is take-up of certified sustainable schemes, nowhere more so than Bordeaux. ⓋⓋⓋ Vegan compatible: We listed known ⓋⓋⓋVegan compatible wineries in 2017, after many requests. Over 55% comply. NB most wine is vegetarian. Product information: We've a growing collection of information sheets & press cuttings: do ask. Plus, some growers have very splendid websites. Two warehouses: We bond in LCB's London-Tilbury facility. In Edinburgh we have The Vaults, thought to be the oldest working cellars in Britain, from the 12th Century. Many items are in both places. NB if an item is ONLY lying in The Vaults, it is usually marked (VAULTS) on the list. NB Orders combining wine from both places count as two minimum orders, two deliveries. We always try to facilitate. Raeburn Fine Wines : We remain wine-people importing wines we consider to be worth selling, drinking, thinking about, for our wine conscious clients. We spend >three months of the year buying, only possible with Taher, Humair & Co. patiently running things. For which, thanks. Producers working in various schools of reduced treatments are (still) described as SUSTAINABLE agriculture. Quite some are formally certified sustainable. Producers certified as ORGANIC , or BIODYNAMIC , are described as such. Those who are are compliant with certification bodies' guidelines, but are not certified, are described in inverted commas as 'organic-uncertified' (aka 'practising organic') or 'biodynamic-uncertified.' The reason for listing it in this way is to communicate between wine professionals, in plain English. Please be aware that uncertified wines simply cannot legally be described as organic or biodynamic to the public. As always in wine, trust in producers' qualitative and ethical ideas and actions, counts for more than scores and awards, classifications and certifications combined. The silver lining is that the final wine is so darn good.’ Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast ‘Regardless of how they were made, the majority of the 2018 reds in my tastings were beautifully structured with ripe fruit and potent tannins, yet there is an impressive drinkability to them, which is a great sign of quality.’ James Suckling ‘Many believe the potential quality of the wines could be on par with classic vintages such as 1990, 2005 and 2010’ Wine Spectator ‘The fact is that 2018 made excellent quality wines across the board from the simplest Bordeaux to the great names. This is a sign of an exceptional year’

  • Bordeaux 2020 En Primeur
BORDEAUX 2020 EN PRIMEUR 2020 EN PRIMEUR WINE Bordeaux 2020 It is not often that Bordeaux serves up a trilogy of top vintages. The last time that we saw three consecutive excellent vintages was in the late 1980’s, when we were spoiled by the trilogy of 1988, 1989 and 1990. The Wine Advocate lead on the 2018 vintage, labelling it “high in the list of greatest ever vintages in Bordeaux”. Jane Anson gave 2019 a 4.5/5 score and only just behind the greats of 2010 and 2016. Released during the first lockdown, it is also one of the best value vintages in years, although the Châteaux did limit the amount of wine released En Primeur, unsure of how the market would perform. So, what about 2020? Is it indeed the third in a trilogy of exceptional vintages, as touted by many wine world critics, or is it just Bordeaux hype? Let’s remember, the Bordelais are the true masters of hype! The weather pattern was not without its challenges, and in this respect, there were a lot of similarities with both 2018 and 2019. A mild and rainy winter, a hot and wet Spring with a precocious flowering, followed by a hot summer and a warm, dry and early harvest. From our tastings we certainly concur that there are many beautifully crafted wines produced in this vintage, very much in the classic style of claret. We were very impressed by the freshness and lower alcohol levels, which enabled the individual terroirs to express their true characteristics. The last few years have seen a welcome return to the more, traditional, cultured style of winemaking, following the retirement of Robert Parker, whose influence lead to a richer, more extracted and alcoholic style of Bordeaux.
