Derbyshire Youth Offending Service works with young people aged 10-17 on both Court Orders and Out of Court Disposals using a Trauma Informed Practice model.

This post is within the County Team working with young people who receive out of court disposals. One of the priorities for the service to is to ensure that young people are not criminalised unnecessarily. In this respect Youth Justice Panels are held fortnightly where the police refer cases for consideration of court of court disposals.

The County Team are responsible for working with young people who are given a Divert Programme or Youth Conditional Caution from the panel. The allocated worker will complete a full assessment of the young person's circumstances and then complete intervention with them to ensure they do not re-offend.

The successful candidate will be expected to work with minimal supervision and possess skills around engaging and motivating young people. Experience of working with young people is necessary including following intervention programmes. Experience of working with young people within a Trauma Informed Practice model is desirable as is knowledge of the desistance model.

The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate administration and IT skills and have a flexible approach to work. Good communication skills and the ability to work to deadlines are essential.

All candidates must have:

 Experience and demonstrable evidence of successful performance when working at a departmental managerial level.  Demonstrable evidence of contributing to delivery of FRS’s Service Plans.  Demonstrable evidence of both working within core values and applying them across the Service.  Evidence of personal development  Evidence of a formal management qualification – Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) – Level 5 or 7.  Substantial experience in a Group Manager role  Evidence and experience of managing operational incidents at level 3 (Silver) Command.  All core skills current ‘in-ticket’ date.  Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) – Level 4 Diploma. Minimum two papers Level 4 Certificate in Fire Operations and Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety. An additional two papers will be required by 2022.

Appointable candidates will remain on a hold list until the next process, normally a period of 12 months.

As a member of the Strategic Leadership Team, the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to utilise and develop their leadership and management expertise.

Area Managers with operational responsibilities must either be sector competent in Incident Command at Level 4 or will be required to demonstrate their ability to manage operational incidents by completing a Level 4 incident command assessment.

The post holder will be expected to provide operational cover and therefore live or be located (whilst on duty) within the County boundary of Derbyshire.

The Area Managers currently operate on a one week in three operational rota and provide Gold Command Support to the Principal Officers.
