Cuando Rabí Leví Itzjak de Berdichov, un colega de su autor, Rabí Shneur Zalman, vio el Tania por primera vez, excla- mó: “¡Un Di-s tan inmenso y temible, en un libro tan pequeño!” Análogamente, el anterior Lubavitcher Rebe, Rabí Iosef Itzjak Schneersohn —sea su memoria bendición—, escribe acerca del Haiom Iom...: “...éste es un libro pequeño en formato... pera colmado de perlas y diaman- tes de la más selecta calidad. Es, a Di-s gracias, una legítima obra cultural jasí- dica. El Di-s bendito ha agraciado —on áin hore— a mi yerno, HaRav HaGaón Rabí Menajem Mendel shlitá, con la habilidad de poder erigir tan espléndido palacio de jasidismo, con 383 cámaras de las que día a día fluye el habla, comu- nicando, cada día, algo de importancia. El lector halla cada día con precisión qué partes del Tania, del Jumash (Pen- tateuco) y del Tehilím (Salmos) debe estudiar ese día, las costumbres de Jabad pertinentes a aquel día, y un pensamiento jasídico, por lo general relevante a la época del año o a una de las tres lecciones de ese día. El Haiom Iom...www.kehot.com.arse escribió para ser utilizado en 1942-1943, y ese formato ha sido conservado; la lección diaria de Torá, la Haftorá, etc., por ende, se relacionan con dicho año. También hay una sección de notas biográficas breves acerca de los Rebéim (líderes de Jabad). Esta edición del Haiom Iom... es singular por el hecho de que su texto hebreo fue fotográficamente ampliado de la edición original de 1942, conservando por lo tanto el formato original de tres días (jueves, viernes y Shabat) en una página, y cuatro días (de domingo a miércoles) en la siguiente. Además, fueron incorpo- radas las adiciones y correcciones de las ediciones posteriores, y muchas nuevas enmiendas han sido el resultado de una minuciosa relectura y mejora gráfica del texto. La traducción [inglesa] propiamente dicha y las notas al pie, fueron prepara- das por el Rabino Zalman Posner, de Nashville, Tennessee; también por los Rabinos Itzjak M. Kagan de Detroit, Michigan, y Sholom B. Wineberg de Kansas www.kehot.com.ar Portada de la primera edición, formato de bolsillo. 128 páginas. 1942, Brooklyn, NY, con una nota al margen, de puño y letra del Rebe. A5 muchas sinagogas se lee en voz alta, cada día lo de ese día, en medio o después de las plegarias, por lo actual. Muchos discursos de Roshéi Ieshivá (Decanos de Ieshivá) se inician con la lectura del texto para ese día. Y mucha gente encuentra en él contenidos especiales, precisos, mensajes personales, en lo que hace a even- tos de su vida privada. De alguna manera es el “hijo primogénito” de la prolífica pluma del Rebe r"if. Y como tal, es querido en mayor medida. No es necesario explayarse en la alabanza de su contenido. Su fuente y su “compilador” son el mejor aval. Lo que es más, el Rebe Anterior ha sido muy explícito al ponderar la magnífica obra, una verdadera joya del acervo jasídico, en una carta suya que se ha transcripto al principio de esta edición. En lo que hace a la versión castellana: Muchos términos coloquiales de Jabad implicarían extensa elaboración. Para ello referimos al lector al Glosario de pág. 133 y a las Notas Introductorias del Traductor (N.I.T.) a la versión inglesa. Un ejemplo que descuella es el término avodá. Literalmente significa “trabajo” o “labor” — pero alude a lo que se espera que el hombre haga consigo mismo. Es decir, la tarea en la cual deberá invertir agotador y profundo esfuerzo para “trabajar” con su propia persona, sea en la relación con el semejante, con Di-s, con sus hábitos o su inclinación natural. Es un término que se repite una y otra vez en el curso del texto.

One might think that this is a colorful and charming theme; but in truth it is much more. It reflects the Jewish approach to teaching Torah. Every morning we begin the Shacharit service with blessings called Birkhot HaTorah. Among the blessings we declare l,ru , hrcs ,t ubhvkt ‘v tb crgvu – “ Please, Lord our God, make the words of Your Torah sweet in our mouths. ” The 18th century rabbinic thinker and prolific author, Yaakov Emden, noted that this is a pragmatic request. We pray that Torah will be sweet for everyone to enjoy, making it universally desirable among all Jews. A number of years ago, on a visit to our Shul, the President of the Los Angeles Jewish Federation, Jay Sanderson, remarked how impressed he was that children come over to me on Shabbat to receive lollipops. He exclaimed that encouraging children to come to their rabbi for something sweet will guarantee the future of our people. He further ruminated, “We also need lollipops for the adults so that they too will be excited by their Judaism.” It is our hope that in this Program Calendar, filled with exciting and stimulating programs, many of which are appearing for the first time, you will find the sweetness of Torah that will stimulate your thought and expand your Jewish education. People who work under high pressure conditions will often take time off to get away from it all, relax and "decompress"; this, common wisdom assumes, is the way to alleviate the accumulative effects of stress. Alas, the study's findings indicate that a cycle of intense stress followed by utter relaxation does nothing to counter the deleterious physical and mental health effects of chronic stress. The only thing that really helps is learning to respond in effective ways to stress-inducing situations as they arise. Relaxation is not what heals stress, but reshaping our day-to-day behavior in a way that makes for a less stressful life. Passover is a celebration of our capacity to attain freedom in "every generation" (as the Haggadah challenges us), to leave whichever "Egypt" our souls languish in. Yet when we think of freedom, we usually think in terms of being free of care, worry and the burdens of life -- in other words, freedom equals "relaxation". Passover seems to contradict this with its laws on banishing every crumb of leaven from every nook and cranny of our home, with the requirement to eat precise amounts of matzah and drink a certain measure of wine with each of the "four cups". Religiously speaking -- without eating and drinking the specified amounts, we have not really celebrated the Seder.
