Bat Mitzvah Club A Jewish girl’s Bat Mitzvah birthday reflects a major turning point in her life. This club emphasizes that a Bat Mitzvah is a process, not a self-contained event that transpires in one day. Our focus is to challenge and stimulate our members, encourage the girls to learn more about this unique time in their lives, and help them gain new perspectives on their positions as females, as adults, and as Jews. Members enjoy a combination of learning and fun through regular meetings, special programs and hands-on activities and projects!

Monday, December 16 Yud Tes Kislev Guest Speaker: Rabbi Manis Friedman Rabbi Manis Friedman is a world- renowned author, lecturer, and social commentator with a provocative and incisive wit. He has been featured in over 200 print articles and interviewed on over 50 television and radio talk shows. He hosted his own critically acclaimed cable television series, Torah Forum with Manis Friedman, syndicated throughout North America. Friedman’s 1990 book, Doesn’t Anyone Blush Anymore, is currently in its fifth printing. In 1971, Friedman founded Bais Chana Institute of Jewish Studies in Minnesota, the world’s first yeshiva exclusively for women, where he continues to serve as dean.

Sunday, January 12 Living Beyond Limits Guest Speaker: Justice Richard Bernstein Justice Richard Bernstein became the first blind justice, elected by voters statewide, to the Michigan Supreme Court in November 2014. With a commitment to justice and fairness, Bernstein began his eight-year term in January 2015. Justice Bernstein has received many honors and awards including: “Michiganian of the Year” by the Detroit News, “40 Under 40,” and the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award. In 2013, Justice Bernstein was inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. In his spare time, Justice Bernstein is an avid runner, completing 23 marathons. He also co-hosted a one-hour legal radio show called “Fighting for Justice”.

He is the founder and director of the Conejo Jewish Academy – a unique adult education institute that has served as a model for dozens of other communities worldwide.
