    Church of South India Karimnagar Diocese a Story of Transformation

    Karimnagar Diocese 133 years and Beyond: Church of South India Karimnagar Diocese A Story of Transformation (1879-2012) The Wesleyan Methodist Missionaries from England began working since 1879 in the Districts of Hyderabad, Medak, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Nalgonda. As a result of their mission work Churches were established along with Schools and Hospitals. After the formation of Church of South India in year 1947, Karimnagar and Nalgonda areas from Medak were annexed to the Dornakal Diocese. There was a small village, by name ‘Gulshanabad’, about 85 kilometres from Hyderabad in the erstwhile ‘Nizam’s Dominion’ in the Telangana region of todaýs Andhra Pradesh. According to one tradition, it was a village where flowers were grown on the banks of the rivulet Pasuperu for the rulers of that time. It was perhaps a typical Muslim village with a few people from other communities. The old mosque on top of the hill, and the existence of no other major temple in the village, is an indication to this tradition. The name ‘Gulshanabad’ means ‘a place of flowers’. With the coming of the Methodist missionaries, notably Charles Walker Posnett in 1896, the Story of Gulshanabad to Medak began. William Burgess, a British Methodist missionary from Madras, with Benjamin Wesley, an Indian evangelist, came to Hyderabad in 1879. A year later came Benjamin Pratt. This trio laid the foundations for the Church in Secunderabad and Hyderabad, although British chaplaincies for their military existed long before. The pictures of William Burgess and Benjamin Pratt are on display in the CSI Wesley Church, Clock Tower, and Secunderabad.

    Chapter VI THE LOCUS STANDI AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT OFAZAD HIND The l.N.A. Government established by Netaji was a separate independent Government cf a separate and independent state - the Provisional Government of Free India. According to A.C.Chatterjee' there were some positive considerations for which Netaji formed the Provisional Government of Free India. They are as follows : (a) Attainment of Statehood and waging of the l.N.A. war as the war of a state against a State and not of an individual or a group against a state, or of a colonial dependency agains; an empire. (b) Provisional Government of Azad Hind would be a member of the international comit> of Nations and would thus acquire an international status. (c) As a tj'ue national war it would evoke greater public spirit and confidence, support and enthusiasm which was not expected in the case of an insurgency. (d) Territorial expansion in course of military operations and opening of new fronts accordingly. Expansion here did not mean annexation of territories of other countr es. It meant to bring the emancipated Indian territories under the l.N.A. Government. (e) A Pro^'isional Government was an absolute necessity as an organ through which the revoluionary organisation could secure manpower, money and material and also create a feeling of solidarity among the revolutionary forces. 174 (f) It also provided one central authority for coordinating the forces of the revolutionaries. This was one thing which was lacking in India's First War of Independence in 1857. (g) Besides, through alliance with other Governments it could secure special assistance from friendly countries.

    GOVERNMENT OF INDIA COMMUNICATIONS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO:1258 ANSWERED ON:31.07.2000 BUILDINGS FOR POST OFFICES BALIRAM Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state: (a) the details of post offices functioning in rented buildings particularly in Azamgarh and Mau districts of U.P. and Mumbai in Maharashtra, district-wise; (b) the amount paid by the Government as rent for these buildings during 1999-2000; (c) whether the Government propose to construct departmental buildings for the post offices at those places; (d) if so, the details thereof, district-wise; and (e) if not, the reasons therefor? Answer MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS (SHRI TAPAN SIKDAR): (a) There are a total of 2599 post offices functioning in rented buildings in U.P. and 228 post offices functioning in rented buildings in Mumbai city. Details of the post offices functioning in rented buildings particularly in Azamgarh and Mau district of U.P. and Mumbai in Maharashtra is given district wise at Annexure `A`. (b) The amount paid by the Government as rent for these rented buildings is given at Annexure `B`. (c) There is no immediate proposal for construction of departmental buildings at place mentioned in (a) above. (d)&(e) No reply called for in view of (c) above.
