And here-in lies its dilemma, because Mary comes to a home, like most homes, that is struggling with the day-to-day effort to balance all life requires of any of those who live there. Life requires some but maybe not all of work, self worth, fulfi llment, and parenting, growing up, decision-making, romance, etc. and not necessarily in that or any particular order. Mary Poppins is timeless because each of these struggles are timeless to every generation of the human race. Though timeless they may be, there is no manual to make sure we do any of them correctly (nor would it do much good, most of us would only rewrite it). This musical/play is truly about the family and how each learns that listening and heeding to each others needs is a key to the ever onward march through this life we all experience. “Mary” represents the spirit of inspiration toward these interacting moments. She and Bert help this brilliant and loving family to function more prosperously. By watching this play, I hope you are not only entertained but that “Mary” may spread some light to each of you, after all we will all be on our own following the performance. Good Luck! • Historical Inaccuracies and a False Sense of Feminism in Disney’S Pocahontas
Cyrus 1 Lydia A. Cyrus Dr. Squire ENG 440 Film Analysis Revision Fabricated History and False Feminism: Historical Inaccuracies and a False Sense of Feminism in Disney’s Pocahontas In 1995, following the hugely financial success of The Lion King, which earned Disney close to one billion is revenue, Walt Disney Studios was slated to release a slightly more experimental story (The Lion King). Previously, many of the feature- length films had been based on fairy tales and other fictional stories and characters. However, over a Thanksgiving dinner in 1990 director Mike Gabriel began thinking about the story of Pocahontas (Rebello 15). As the legend goes, Pocahontas was the daughter of a highly respected chief and saved the life of an English settler, John Smith, when her father sought out to kill him. Gabriel began setting to work to create the stage for Disney’s first film featuring historical events and names and hoped to create a strong female lead in Pocahontas. The film would be the thirty-third feature length film from the studio and the first to feature a woman of color in the lead. The project had a lot of pressure to be a financial success after the booming success of The Lion King but also had the added pressure from director Gabriel to get the story right (Rebello 15). The film centers on Pocahontas, the daughter of the powerful Indian chief, Powhatan. When settlers from the Virginia Company arrive their leader John Smith sees it as an adventure and soon he finds himself in the wild and comes across Pocahontas.

  • Mary Poppins Jr. Full Synopsis from Mtishows.Com
Mary Poppins Jr. Full Synopsis From mtishows.com Bert, a man of many trades, introduces the audience to the unhappy Banks family: father George, mother Winifred, and children Jane and Michael (Prologue). The family; the housekeeper, Mrs. Brill; and the houseboy, Robertson Ay, are shocked when Katie Nanna quits and storms out in frustration. George muses about what he expects from the household - the nanny, in particular ("Cherry Tree Lane - Part 1"). Though Jane and Michael insist upon their own requirements for their caregiver ("The Perfect Nanny"), George dismisses their requests ("Cherry Tree Lane - Part 2"). As if summoned, Mary Poppins appears, offering her services as a nanny. She fits the children's requirements exactly ("Practically Perfect / Practically Perfect - Playoff" ). She then takes the children to the park, where they meet Bert, who describes how wonderful everyday life can be when spending time with Mary ("Jolly Holiday"). At first, the children are not convinced, but when Mary Poppins brings to life a park statue named Neleus, Jane and Michael are in awe of her. The children return home and gush to their father about the nanny, but George is preoccupied ("Winds Do Change"). A few weeks later, the household is preparing for Winifred's party, and Jane and Michael make a mess of the house. Despite Mary's magic ("A Spoonful of Sugar"), the party is ruined when no one attends ("Spoonful - Playoff").
