Immersion Into Noise
Immersion Into Noise Critical Climate Change Series Editors: Tom Cohen and Claire Colebrook The era of climate change involves the mutation of systems beyond 20th century anthropomorphic models and has stood, until recent- ly, outside representation or address. Understood in a broad and critical sense, climate change concerns material agencies that im- pact on biomass and energy, erased borders and microbial inven- tion, geological and nanographic time, and extinction events. The possibility of extinction has always been a latent figure in textual production and archives; but the current sense of depletion, decay, mutation and exhaustion calls for new modes of address, new styles of publishing and authoring, and new formats and speeds of distri- bution. As the pressures and re-alignments of this re-arrangement occur, so must the critical languages and conceptual templates, po- litical premises and definitions of ‘life.’ There is a particular need to publish in timely fashion experimental monographs that redefine the boundaries of disciplinary fields, rhetorical invasions, the in- terface of conceptual and scientific languages, and geomorphic and geopolitical interventions. Critical Climate Change is oriented, in this general manner, toward the epistemo-political mutations that correspond to the temporalities of terrestrial mutation. Some New Music to Turn That Frown Upside-Down
Some New Music To Turn That Frown Upside-Down Bittle Magazine | Record Reviews This June has been something of a short, hard kick in the face for all those who say there is no good new music out there, with so many great new albums that it‘s hard to know where to begin. By JOHN BITTLES. Seriously, it’s almost as if those within the music business knew about my spiralling DJ Sprinkles addiction and decided to release lots of great music to help wean me off. We have the gorgeous romantic house vibes of Glitterbug, the melancholy soul-searching of The Antlers, synth-pop gold from Lust For Youth, killer slacker rock from Happyness and so much more. And if you still aren’t excited about new music after reading this article then just play ›Midtown 120 Blues‹ on repeat. It works for me! This month we’re gonna start with one of the most surprisingly touching and exciting new albums of the last few weeks, ›Weird Little Birthday‹ , the debut album by London-based newcomers Happyness. Taking US slacker rock as a starting point the band give us 13 tracks that are, at turns, tear inducing, bittersweet, and full of that ‘We don’t give a fuck’ attitude that you’ve just got to love. ›Naked Patients‹ , the album’s second track has already been proven by a top team of scientists (me and my mate Steve) to increase a listeners ‘hip’ quota by 15 whole points! Meanwhile ›Orange Luz‹ is so laidback it almost forgets it’s there. -

NEW YORK CITY ELECTROACOUSTIC MUSIC FESTIVAL __ VIRTUAL ONLINE FESTIVAL __ www.nycemf.org CONTENTS DIRECTOR’S WELCOME 3 STEERING COMMITTEE 3 REVIEWING 6 PAPERS 7 WORKSHOPS 9 CONCERTS 10 INSTALLATIONS 51 BIOGRAPHIES 53 DIRECTOR’S NYCEMF 2021 WELCOME STEERING COMMITTEE Welcome to NYCEMF 2021. After a year of having Ioannis Andriotis, composer and audio engineer. virtually all live music in New York City and elsewhere https://www.andriotismusic.com/ completely shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we decided that we still wanted to provide an outlet to all Angelo Bello, composer. https://angelobello.net the composers who have continued to write music during this time. That is why we decided to plan another virtual Nathan Bowen, composer, Professor at Moorpark electroacoustic music festival for this year. Last year, College (http://nb23.com/blog/) after having planned a live festival, we had to cancel it and put on everything virtually; this year, we planned to George Brunner, composer, Director of Music go virtual from the start. We hope to be able to resume Technology, Brooklyn College C.U.N.Y. our live concerts in 2022. Daniel Fine, composer, New York City The limitations of a virtual festival meant that we could plan only to do events that could be done through the Travis Garrison, composer, Music Technology faculty at internet. Only stereo music could be played, and only the University of Central Missouri online installations could work. Paper sessions and (http://www.travisgarrison.com) workshops could be done through applications like zoom. We hope to be able to do all of these things in Doug Geers, composer, Professor of Music at Brooklyn person next year, and to resume concerts in full surround College sound. -

The global market for electronic dance music has been developing and expanding through its time and is the genre that I will be focusing on in the following paper. Looking especially at European markets, my interest is to see what new ways could be offered to Iceland’s artists, in the industry of electronic dance music, mainly dj’s and producers. The reason for this choice of subject is through interest, participation in the industry, and my beliefs that the Icelandic artists do have their voice to add, to the international nation of house music, which is one of many genres in the electronic dance music and the one that I will be focusing on in the following paper. With the use of qualitative research methods and studies from cultural economics, the work of this research has given me a broader and different perspective, and a better introduction to the culture of clubbing. Conclusions show that access would cost both time and money, and would require focus and cooperation between different parties. -

Press Release
! Artist: Michael Mayer Title: & Label: !K7 Cat. #: K7337CD / K7337LP Release: 28 October 2016 !Format: Vinyl, CD & Digital Michael Mayer is one of the leading German tastemakers in dance music and his DJ sets have influenced a generation (or two) of musicians and fans.As an artist, Mayer remains tirelessly motivated to DJing, in the studio or behind his desk at KOMPAKT, the label he co-owns. His recording career spans four albums, 23 EP’s, nearly 170 remixes and the legendary DJ mixes for fabric and Immer. ‘&’ is his third full-length, a passionate and personal album that speaks as broadly as his DJ sets - embracing his genre-busting love for music, rhythm and atmosphere – and the dancefloor in front of him. ‘&’ – the title says it all; Michael Mayer collaborated for every track on the album. “All of those involved are good friends of mine and not random choices selected from someTop 100 list. These people mean a lot to me - and by that the music we produced together is heart driven and emotionally powered. I felt we had a mutual privilege to share time together in the studio creating what you hear”. ‘&’ follows a long phase of solitary studio work, but Michael is returning to a pattern of collaboration that’s been significant throughout his career. From his early band Forever Sweet (with Reinhard Voigt and Tobias Thomas), Zimt (with Matias Aguayo) or most recently Supermayer (with Superpitcher). This new wave of partnerships can be traced to the series of back-to-back DJ sets he played throughout 2015. -
The Story of Whatness
The Story Of Whatness Music | Bittles’ Magazine: The music column from the end of the world Since launching in 1998 Cologne label Kompakt have proven themselves masters of melody-rich techno, dance floor bangers, and pop-tinged house. Yet, as the imprint’s revered Pop Ambient series of albums attests, they are often at their very best when they lessen the pace. By JOHN BITTLES Lush long-players from Jens Uwe Beyer, The Orb, Vermont, Gas and Thore Pfeiffer successfully eschew the beats entirely to create sounds which excite and stimulate the senses to become so much more than mere background noise. This July the label continue their recent run of form with the warm, evocative cascades of Whatness, Anton Kubikov’s debut solo LP. Perhaps better known as one half of the duo Scsi-9, or as joint head of the record imprint Pro-tez Records, Whatness sees the Russian-born, Prague-based artist follow successful instalments in the Pop Ambient series with a fully realised body of work. Resembling a long, lonely stroll through an empty landscape on a cool, starless night, the album’s twelve tracks are wonderfully varied, strangely poignant, and linger with the listener long after they have come to an end. Opener Liquid Mirror sets the scene perfectly, its subtle wash of drones creating a heady sense of otherworldly tension which works as a somewhat unsettling introduction to Anton Kubikov’s aural world. Next up, Mintnight conjures the sense of calm before the night truly kicks in; the lights are coming on, there is still hustle and bustle from the streets mixed with laughter and even birdsong. -
