See: A review of: Götz Aly/Into the Tunnel: The Brief Life of Marion Samu el, 1931-1943 (Metropolitan Books/Henry Holt 2008). From the Book Descriptio n at amazon.com: A generous feat of biographical sleuthing by an acclaimed historian rescues one child victim of the Holocaust from oblivion When the German Remembrance Foundation established a prize to commemorate the million Jewish children murdered during the Holocaust, it was deliberately named after a victim about whom nothing was known except her age and the date of her deportation: Marion Samuel, an eleven-year-old girl killed in Auschwitz in 1943. Sixty years after her death, when Gtz Aly received the award, he was moved to find out whatever he could about Marion's short life and restore this child to history. In what is as much a detective story as a historical reconstruction, Aly, praised for his 'formidable research skills' (Christopher Browning), traces the Samuel family's agonizing decline from shop owners to forced laborers to deportees. Against all odds, Aly manages to recover expropriation records, family photographs, and even a trace of Marion's voice in the premonition she confided to a school friend: 'People disappear,' she said, 'into the tunnel.' A gripping account of a family caught in the tightening grip of persecution, Into the Tunnel is a powerful reminder that the millions of Nazi victims were also, each one, an individual life. (boldface added) "This is a weighty little book, as easy to read as it is difficult to forget... For Marion Samuel, the future was a brief life and a brutal end, followed by years of obscurity...Götz Aly has accomplished a remarkable feat: he has vividly conjured up and restored to history the beginning of a life that was not to be. If only this work of commemoration could be done for all those who disappeared into the tunnel." • The Evolution of Neo-Conservative Foreign Policy Agenda - from the Cold War to the New Millennium Selected Issues
AD AMERICAM Journal of American Studies Vol. 8, 2008 ISSN 1896-9461 ISBN 978-83-233-2533-8 Grzegorz Nycz THE EVOLUTION OF NEO-CONSERVATIVE FOREIGN POLICY AGENDA - FROM THE COLD WAR TO THE NEW MILLENNIUM SELECTED ISSUES I. THE ORIGINS 1. The history of American neo-conservatism begins in the 1960s with a group of in tellectuals from the liberal camp, who rejected the Cultural Revolution and the radi calism of the New Left. The intellectual leaders of the new movement, Norman Pod- horetz and Irving Kristol, as well as their allies and associates Nathan Glazer, Daniel Bell, Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Jeanne Kirkpatrick, among others, were later named “neo-conservatives” or “neocons” to emphasize the difference between “converted” leftist liberals and “regular” republican conservatives (Ehrman 2000: 50- -70). Notably, neo-conservatives formed their intellectual credo from the elements of many doctrines - including the thought of Hannah Arendt, Reinhold Niebuhr, Walter Lippman, Arthur Schlesinger Jr., and Leo Strauss. In general, they shared the view of the whole conservative camp, that the social crisis of the 1960s and 1970s was deep ened by the counterculture, which undermined the Judeo-Christian tradition in America and infected the roots of American society. The “regular” and “neo” conser vatives commonly believed that American society had been weakened by the effects of industrialization and suffered from the erosion of social relations, caused by the leftist-liberal campaign against religion and family. In matters of foreign policy the early neo-conservatives defended containment and anticommunism, strongly sup ported the alliance between America and Israel and raised the significance of moral issues in international policy (Podhoretz 1986, Kristol 1999, Ehrman 2000, Friedman 2005, Tokarski 2006).

Zinovii Tolkachev was a Ukrainian artist and Pavel Antokol’skii a Moscow poetry professor. Tolkachev drew both Jewish and Socialist themes, while Antokol’skii created no Jewish motifs until his son was killed in combat and he encountered Nazi concentration camps; Tolkachev was at the liberation of Majdanek and Auschwitz.

  • {PDF EPUB} the Protocols the Elders of Zion by Sergei Nilus Protocols of the Elders of Zion: Key Dates
Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} The Protocols The Elders of Zion by Sergei Nilus Protocols of the Elders of Zion: Key Dates. These key dates chronicle The Protocols of the Elders of Zion , the most widely distributed antisemitic publication of modern times. Twitter Facebook Cite Print. This content is available in the following languages. The Protocols, supposedly the record of secret meetings of Jewish leaders, describes an alleged conspiracy to dominate the world. The conspiracy and its leaders, the so-called Elders of Zion, never existed. Although the Protocols has been proven a fraud on many occasions, it continues to inspire those who seek to spread hatred of Jews. 1864 French political satirist Maurice Joly writes The Dialogue in Hell Between Machiavelli and Montesquieu. Joly's book never mentions Jews, but much of the Protocols would be fabricated based on ideas contained in it. 1868 Prussian writer Hermann Goedsche publishes the novel Biarritz , in which the twelve tribes of Israel meet secretly in Prague's Jewish cemetery. Goedsche's book, like Joly's, contains ideas incorporated in fabricating the Protocols . 1897–1899 Although the origin of the Protocols is still a matter of debate, it was most likely fabricated under the direction of Pyotr Rachovsky, chief of the foreign branch of the Russian secret police ( Okhrana ) in Paris. 1903 An abbreviated version of the Protocols is published in a St. Petersburg, Russia, newspaper, Znamya ( The Banner ). 1905 Russian mystic Sergei Nilus includes the Protocols as an appendix to his book, The Great in the Small: The Coming of the Anti-Christ and the Rule of Satan on Earth.

Chapter 3. The Formation of the Ideology of Antisemitism in Europe 3.1. Theoretical Framework The exact chronology of the rise of modern Antisemitism as ideology and move- ment remains unfathomable. Historians mention various insufficient and debatable factors. Hostility toward Jews links not with their numbers, economic standing, or political substance, because the birthplace of modern Antisemitism saw little of Jewish population or influential. Instead, the areas with the largest and most culturally distinct Jewish communities experienced the anti-Jewish movement at a later stage in the form of a secondary phenomenon, which does not mean they held an unequivocally positive image of the Jew. Hannah Arendt in The Origin of Totalitarianism (1951) associated the rise of Antisemitism with the role played in the seventeenth and the eighteenth centuries by the “Court Jews” and, later, the wealthy bankers who funded monarchs and governments. Although the fig- ures of the Rothschild’s or Baron Hirsch strongly influenced the imagination of the public and the Jews themselves, their actual influence was not significant enough to cause such a strong response in the political life of several European nations.104 Instead, the Jewish tycoons symbolized the audacious “insolence,” with which these few families exceeded their role of pariahs and entered universally accepted positions in the society. In other words, they either drawn opposition against the principle of equal opportunities or demonstrated its absence. As soon as the idea of the inevitability of Jewish emancipation spread, the names of the tycoons lost their importance, even though they did not completely disappear from Antisemitic rhetoric.
