Biostratigraphy of the Lower Cretaceous Schrambach Formation on the classical locality of Schrambachgraben (Northern Calcareous Alps, Salzburg Area) DANIELA BOOROVÁ, PETR SKUPIEN, ZDENÌK VAÍÈEK & HARALD LOBITZER Schrambach Formation in the Eastern Alps area is conceived from the lithological and stratigraphical point of view rather non-uniform. Therefore a 200 m thick section in the type locality of the Schrambach Formation, situated south of Salzburg, is documented in this study. The studied sequence in the Schrambachgraben seems to be in the prevailing part of section in simple, monoclinal mode of deposition. The opposite is true. The section studied begins with the Oberalm Formation, passes gradually into the Schrambach Formation and ends with the lower part of the Rossfeld Formation. Ac- cording to our detail results, deposits of the Schrambach Formation in this type of section occur in a minimum of three tectonic slices. The first tectonic slice is composed of a transitional sequence of the Oberalm Formation to the Schrambach Formation. The uppermost part of the Oberalm Formation is dated as the Middle Berriasian Calpionella Zone (Elliptica Subzone). According to calcareous dinoflagellates, the lower part of the stratal sequence of the Schrambach Formation belongs to the Fusca Acme Zone, which corresponds to the early part of the Late Berriasian. Ac- cording to the occurrence of the calpionellids Calpionellites uncinata, Cts. darderi and Cts. major, the second slice be- longs to the Early Valanginian. With respect to occurrences of ammonites and non-calcareous dinoflagellates findings, the tectonic slice belongs to the higher Late Berriasian Subthurmannia boissieri ammonite Zone. The Early Valanginian age of the uppermost accessible part of the section is indicated by sporadic findings of Calpionellites darderi and Cts. -

1661-5468 VOL. 28, N° 2, 2009 Revue de Paléobiologie, Genève (décembre 2009) 28 (2) : 471-489 ISSN 0253-6730 discussion, evolution and new interpretation of the Tornquistes Lemoine, 1910 (Pachyceratidae, Ammonitina) with the exemple of the Vertebrale Subzone sample (Middle oxfordian) of southeastern France Didier BerT*, 1 Abstract The Cheiron Mountain (Alpes-Maritimes, southeastern France) sample of Tornquistes Lemoine was collected in the Arkelli Biohorizon (Vertebrale Subzone, Plicatilis Biozone). Its study reveals its homogeneity whereas its morphology is between two nominal and classical species of literature : Tornquistes tornquisti (de LorioL) and Tornquistes oxfordiense (tornquist). It appears that the features usually taken into account to establish specific denominations in this genus (whorl section thickness, strength and density of the ornamentation, widening of the umbilicus) are in fact manifestations of the laws of covariation of the characteristics, and the extreme morphologies are interrelated by all intermediaries. There is now no taxonomical reason not to consider all the nominal taxa described in the Plicatilis Biozone as a single paleobiological species : Tornquistes helvetiae (tornquist). On the other hand, the stratigraphic polarity of the position of the primary ribs point of bifurcation (which decreases through time) is a major evolutionary feature in Tornquistes. It now allows defining at least three, maybe four, successive chronospecies : (1) (?) Tornquistes greppini (de LorioL), (2) Tornquistes leckenbyi (ArkeLL), (3) Tornquistes helveticus (JeAnnet) and (4) Tornquistes helvetiae (tornquist). Finally, although Protophites eBrAy has often been regarded as a microconch, it is clearly not the one of Tornquistes. The oldest species of Protophites now recognized is Protophites chapuisi (de LorioL) at the top of the Mariae Biozone (Praecordatum Subzone). -

Koevoets): [email protected] We describe the invertebrate assemblages in the Middle Jurassic to lowermost Cretaceous of the Agardhfjellet Formation present in the DH2 rock-core material of Central Spitsbergen (Svalbard). Previous studies of the Agardhfjellet Formation do not accurately reflect the distribution of invertebrates throughout the unit as they were limited to sampling discontinuous intervals at outcrop. The rock-core material shows the benthic bivalve fauna to reflect dysoxic, but not anoxic environments for the Oxfordian–Lower Kimmeridgian interval with sporadic monospecific assemblages of epifaunal bivalves, and more favourable conditions in the Volgian, with major increases in abundance and diversity of Hartwellia sp. assemblages. Overall, the new information from cores shows that abundance, diversity and stratigraphic continuity of the fossil record in the Upper Jurassic of Spitsbergen are considerably higher than indicated in outcrop studies. The inferred life positions and feeding habits of the benthic fauna refine our understanding of the depositional environments of the Agardhfjellet Formation. The pattern of occurrence of the bivalve genera is correlated with published studies of Arctic localities in East Greenland and northern Siberia and shows similarities in palaeoecology with the former but not the latter. -

CALLOMON1 and Eugen GRĂDINARU2 Abstract: The taxonomy of the Liassic ammonites from Munteana (Sviniţa Zone, South Carpathians, Romania) collected by Răileanu (1953), with some subsequent additions, preserved in the collections of the Department of Geology in the Faculty of Geology and Geophysics, University of Bucharest, is reviewed. The most important elements are represented by the Liparoceratidae. These include forms hitherto unknown, described now as Liparoceras carpathicum sp.nov. [M] and Aegoceras carpathicum sp.nov. [m]. These liparoceratids reveal the presence of a sharply-constrained biohorizon in the Liassic deposits of Munteana of Pliensbachian, Late Carixian age (Davoei Zone) and provide an important palaeobiogeographic reference-point in the region of the Carpathians. The Liassic ammonite fauna from Munteana in Răileanu's collection illustrates the value of the fossils that are locked in museum collections, waiting to be described. Occurrences, Age and Paleobiogeography of Rare Genera Phlycticeras and Pachyerymnoceras from South Tethys

Abh. 283/2 (2017), 119–149 Article E Stuttgart, February 2017 Occurrences, age and paleobiogeography of rare genera Phlycticeras and Pachyerymnoceras from South Tethys Sreepat Jain With 24 figures Abstract: New data on two rare genera (Phlycticeras and Pachyerymnoceras) from the Callovian (Middle Jurassic) sediments of Kachchh, western India are presented with an update on their South Tethyan occurrences. This paper documents the earliest occurrence of the genus Phlycticeras from the entire south of Tethys (P. polygonium var. polygonium [M]) from latest Early Callovian sediments (= Proximum Subzone, Gracilis Zone). Further, in light of the new taxonomic data, the previously recorded early Middle Callovian P. gr. pustulatum [M] is reevaluated as also all other Phlycticeras occurrences from the Indian subcontinent. Data suggests that in Kachchh, Phlycticeras has a long range from the latest Early to Late Callovian interval. Additionally, two new macroconch species of Pachyerymnoceras are also described and illustrated from Late Callovian sediments. A critical review of previous records suggests that in Kachchh, Pachyerymnoceras is restricted to the Submediterranean interval of the Collotiformis-Poculum subzones of the Athleta Zone. A note on the paleobiogeography and probable migratory routes of these two genera to India and elsewhere is also suggested.
