Dear Friends, Year after year, The Jerusalem Foundation persists in its endeavors to respond to the city's most pressing needs, and the past year was no exception. With the looming world economic crisis, our work became even more important to the residents of Jerusalem. Programs and institutions that make daily life more livable, whether through community programs that support weaker populations, cultural events that feed the soul or coexistence projects that build bridges of understanding among the diverse sectors of Jerusalem. We are happy to share with you the Jerusalem Foundation’s Annual Report for 2008, a year in which we raised a total of $25.4 million in pledges and grants. This brings the total of all donations received by the Foundation in Jerusalem since its establishment to $750 million (about $1.275 billion if adjusted for inflation). The Foundation’s allocations for the purpose of initiating, developing and operating projects in 2008 totaled $29.8 million, of which almost 59% funded programs, and the balance funded physical projects and preservation. In the course of 2008, the Jerusalem Foundation launched a major new initiative with the 'Adopt 5 a Neighborhood' program that works comprehensively, together with all members of the community, to bring about change through programming and physical renewal – training local professionals and lay leaders to continue the work on the ground. This year also brought a renewal of cooperation and partnership between the Jerusalem Foundation and the , working closely together for the future of the city. For over 40 years, the Jerusalem Foundation has been dedicated solely to Jerusalem – working to ascertain the city's needs, empower residents to break the cycle of poverty and help ensure the development of an open, pluralistic and vibrant city. Though the challenges are growing,

With universal and Jewish values as the source of its inspiration, the Jerusalem Foundation seeks to create a just society for all citizens of Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Foundation works toward creating an open, equitable and modern society by responding to the needs of residents and trying to improve their quality of life. The Foundation acts as impartial arbitrator and independent broker in Jerusalem for the competing interests of the various government departments, non-governmental agencies, other charities and local community volunteers.
