As a result of the merger of Summit Christian College and Taylor University onJulyl,1992, Taylor University returned, after 250 years, to the city of her founding ~ Fort Wayne.

To mark the special occasion, a series of festivities entitled "Celebrat- ing a New Tradition, " was set into motion once students returned to campus for the fall semester. In appreciation of those who supported

^^l9ft(J%^\^Si§fi^g.(ff^/4J^ls/tayloruniverswin1992tayl is a special privilege to thank you for your sacrificial and generous gifts Itto Summit Christian College during the 1991-92 school year. The numerous expressions of support during this year of merger were truly Perspectives outstanding. As a result of your gifts, students were helped, a dedicated faculty was supported and the administration was able to meet critical needs to help in God's work at Fort Wayne.

As one who is well acquainted with gift support for colleges and ministries, I realize that the record of giving for this institution has been outstanding. Historically, Summit Christian College alumni have given at a level and with a frequency and quantity far above what is considered average for an institution of its size.

Beyond your financial support, thank you for your encouragement at an even deeper level. Throughout the merger and transition of this past year many of you have written encouraging letters and continually prayed for the leaders.

We believe God has intervened to sustain the work He began on this campus nearly one hundred years ago. Through God's grace, the merger, and your faithful giving, this work continues. Wes Gerig, Alice Joy Weddle, Dave Biberstein and Arlan Birkey are familiar faces you would recognize if you visited campus today. Eddie Reynolds, Don Hamm, Richard Baxter and Carolyn Arthur are also part of the familiar, dedicated staff who Jay Kesler continue at Taylor University Fort Wayne. Char Binkley and her committed staff are President, continuing the great radio ministry of WBCL. Taylor University The college that you have known and loved has now become a part of my leadership responsibilities. We are going to great lengths to preserve the programs and heritage that have made this college a beacon of Christian higher eduation for nearly a century.

Thank you for standing with us in this great step of faith. Please remember us in your prayers as we look to the future. We are and will continue to be greatly dependent on the Lord as well as your prayers and financial support. By God's grace we will be good stewards of your gifts and the sacred responsibility now entrusted to us.

ver the past year, a lot has happened on the Fort Wayne campus. We have a new name, a new administration, and a new board. Yet, much remains the same - a commitment to training Christian leaders, familiar faculty, and many returning students. The campus is simply now part of a larger vision and new opportunities for greater impact are evident.

Responses to the merger of Summit Christian College and Taylor University have been overwhelmingly positive. In talking with faculty, students, alumni and even neighbor- hood residents, I find enthusiasm for their association with Taylor.

A year before the merger. President Don Gerig and I met a number of times to discuss the future of the college and joined in prayer to learn what the best course would be. With the approval of the board, we approached Taylor officials. Jay Kesler and Daryl Yost, about the possibility of exploring a merger of the two institutions. With so much in

common, it seemed a natural thing to pursue. Paul Steiner

Former Chairman of Not long after, a study was set in motion by Taylor. The rest is history: the joining of Summit Christian College two of the finest Christian colleges in the nation. One, outstanding among Bible colleges, Board of Governors the other at the top in academics and character building among small Christian liberal arts Current member of Taylor colleges and universities. University Board of Trustees Now Taylor University, Fort Wayne, as much as ever, needs the financial and prayer support of all its alumni and friends. There are great opportunities for the ministry of this university, and they will not be met without everyone's continued help.

It has been my privilege to serve on the board of Summit Christian College for many

years. I have been a strong supporter of this wonderful institution. Don Gerig was outstanding in his leadership as president for the past six years. We owe him a great debt

of gratitude for his tireless service and insights. I join a great host of friends in wishing him the very best from the Lord in his new pastoral ministry.

Now as a member of Taylor's board of trustees, I will continue my support of the Fort

Wayne campus, and I ask you to do the same. There are good things ahead. The future is bright for Taylor University in Fort Wayne. Board of Governors Summit Christian College
