Some tweets featured in this compilation have been lightly edited for format or clarity. No tweets featured in this compilation are worth reading. Unsorted The Long Version: I think one of the joys of Twitter, besides updates from your favorite celebrities, is the lack of organization. Left untended, a Twitter feed is a Burroughs cut-up of genres switching every 140 characters, a chronological panoply of near-Cassavetean shifts in tone where the only thing linking any two adjacent posts is the time they were conceived by utterly separate souls. You find something funny (or attempting to be so) shoved up against serious matters just a tweet away from sports or politics or any other topic under the sun. None of the tweets in this section have anything to do with each other and maybe that’s as it should be. I genuinely worry that my grouping of the later ones by subject sort of gives away the joke a bit, or robs you of that crucial element of surprise. I mean, what’s funnier, a joke about ducks after a joke about bears, or the fifth or so joke about ducks in a row? (I’d like it on record that I totally didn’t realize I was typing “ducks in a row” until it happened.) (I’d also like it on record that I do actually know a few jokes about ducks, for what it’s worth.) (Anyway.) I wonder what sound effect plays when crickets tell a joke that no one likes.

  • First-Run Smoking Presentations in U.S. Movies 1999-2006
First-Run Smoking Presentations in U.S. Movies 1999-2006 Jonathan R. Polansky Stanton Glantz, PhD CENTER FOR TOBAccO CONTROL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94143 April 2007 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Smoking among American adults fell by half between 1950 and 2002, yet smoking on U.S. movie screens reached historic heights in 2002, topping levels observed a half century earlier.1 Tobacco’s comeback in movies has serious public health implications, because smoking on screen stimulates adolescents to start smoking,2,3 accounting for an estimated 52% of adolescent smoking initiation. Equally important, researchers have observed a dose-response relationship between teens’ exposure to on-screen smoking and smoking initiation: the greater teens’ exposure to smoking in movies, the more likely they are to start smoking. Conversely, if their exposure to smoking in movies were reduced, proportionately fewer teens would likely start smoking. To track smoking trends at the movies, previous analyses have studied the U.S. motion picture industry’s top-grossing films with the heaviest advertising support, deepest audience penetration, and highest box office earnings.4,5 This report is unique in examining the U.S. movie industry’s total output, and also in identifying smoking movies, tobacco incidents, and tobacco impressions with the companies that produced and/or distributed the films — and with their parent corporations, which claim responsibility for tobacco content choices. Examining Hollywood’s product line-up, before and after the public voted at the box office, sheds light on individual studios’ content decisions and industry-wide production patterns amenable to policy reform.

  • Review: 22 Jump Street | Nouse
Nouse Web Archives Review: 22 Jump Street Page 1 of 3 News Comment MUSE. Politics Business Science Sport Roses Freshers Muse › Film & TV › Features Film Reviews TV Reviews Festivals Review: 22 Jump Street Delivering more action, more gags and more homoeroticism makes this sequel as funny as the first. Kate Barlow reviews Sunday 22 June 2014 Director: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller Starring: Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube Running time: 112 minutes Rating: ★★★★☆ One of the most endearing features of a comedy is an ability to take the piss out of itself. 22 Jump Street certainly isn’t lacking in this quality. Its prequel didn’t hold back in mocking its own origins in TV, and now the next instalment mocks itself for being a sequel. Twists are made on the original humour: high school is now college, Korean Jesus is now Vietnamese and the drugs are now much harder to find. While these frequent throwbacks do begin to get a little tiring, the plot soon builds up and the film begins to find a voice of its own. The problem with endlessly referencing 21 Jump Street is that it makes it hard not to compare the two films, and in this scenario the second offering inevitably comes up short. 22 Jump Street returns to the college popularity stereotypes the first film so successfully and originally fought against, seeing Jonah Hill’s Schmidt return as bumbling cop and social reject, and Channing Tatum’s Jenko rise to be football jock and cop hero, emerging as a sort of hench Spider-Man.

Exporting Canadian Feature Films in Global Markets TRENDS, OPPORTUNITIES AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS MARIA DE ROSA | MARILYN BURGESS COMMUNICATIONS MDR (A DIVISION OF NORIBCO INC.) APRIL 2017 PRODUCED WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF 1 EXPORTING CANADIAN FEATURE FILMS IN GLOBAL MARKETS Acknowledgements This study was commissioned by the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA), in partnership with the Association québécoise de la production médiatique (AQPM), the Cana- da Media Fund (CMF), and Telefilm Canada. The following report solely reflects the views of the authors. Findings, conclusions or recom- mendations expressed in this report are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the funders of this report, who are in no way bound by any recommendations con- tained herein. 2 EXPORTING CANADIAN FEATURE FILMS IN GLOBAL MARKETS Executive Summary Goals of the Study The goals of this study were three-fold: 1. To identify key trends in international sales of feature films generally and Canadian independent feature films specifically; 2. To provide intelligence on challenges and opportunities to increase foreign sales; 3. To identify policies, programs and initiatives to support foreign sales in other jurisdic- tions and make recommendations to ensure that Canadian initiatives are competitive. For the purpose of this study, Canadian film exports were defined as sales of rights. These included pre-sales, sold in advance of the completion of films and often used to finance pro- duction, and sales of rights to completed feature films. In other jurisdictions foreign sales are being measured in a number of ways, including the number of box office admissions, box of- fice revenues, and sales of rights.

From early newscasts of Queen Elizabeth II.’s coronation ceremony in 1952, to a collection of devastating and traumatic events such as the assassination of John F.
