APRIL 2010

With this Schedule of Proposed Actions, you’ll find information that covers environmental analyses in progress on the Umpqua National Forest. This publication is our way of keeping you informed and involved in our plans and progress. We focus these activities on protecting, conserving, using, and restoring forest ecosystems. Each activity lists a contact person if you want additional information or to share ideas.

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) guides us in making informed decisions regarding the environment. Through NEPA, we complete environmental analyses so the public and responsible official for each project are aware of the effects on the environment. The objective of NEPA is to make better decisions and document those decisions. The process is dynamic and flexible. If new information is discovered, we will update the information in this quarterly report.

We hope this publication meets your needs. To further improve our delivery of information, the Forest Service will automatically post SOPAs to the World Wide Web (WWW) for all National Forests four times a year: January, April, July, and October. This will increase the availability and timeliness of information. Since many people seem to prefer obtaining information from the web, we are optimistic that this will also reduce administrative costs associated with copying and mailing the SOPAs, as well as the amount of paper used. You can find the Forest Service's SOPAs at http://www.fs.fed.us/sopa. You may also find the SOPA, maps, and cover letter on our Forest website, at http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/umpqua.

Sincerely,

Clifford J. Dils Forest Supervisor
