This exhibition introduces the literature and the life of Astrid Lindgren, whose archives were added to UNESCO’s Memory of the Pippi Longstocking and the World of Astrid World Register in 2005. Her works are a fine representation of Swedish culture for featuring swedish way of living, child bearing Lindgren Jul. 6, 2019 (Sat)~Aug. 25, 2019(Sun) and coexistence with the nature. This exhibition will be held in commemoration of Japan and Sweden's 150 years of diplomatic relations and showcases valuable object such as original drawings of "Pippi Longstocking".

Japanese swords and armour often embody the spirit of Japanese artistry. This special display “The Exhibition of SAMURAI” showcases a collection of swords and armour which are a source of great pride in Japan. The Exhibition of SAMURAI Traditional Japanese weapons were not viewed merely as battle tools. Captured in each is a masterful display of craftsmanship, Sep. 7, 2019 (Sat)~Nov. 4, 2019(Mon) refined over the years. This exhibition boasts 150 treasured swords and sets of armour from the 11th to 17th Centuries, and details how they evolved during this turbulent time.

This exhibition introduces the artistic tallent, vertu and the history of "芳(hou)"family, who consistently tried to evolve the UKIYOE that Challenges Kuniyoshi, Ukiyoe wood printing method by challenging new techniques. This exhibition especially forcuses on Utagawa Kuniyoshi, an artist Yoshitoshi...and More! Nov. 16, 2019 (Sat)~Dec. 22, 2019(Sun) who was active in the end of the Edo period. It also features Tsukioka Honen, who is claimed to be the last Ukiyoe artist and other disciples of the Honen family. The exhibition includes shocking expressions. Please watch out!

Intellectual Japanese Women Exhibition 3 This exhibition features the artworks of Futagawa Gyokujo, a female artist of the Fukuoka Clan, and it introduces other female Apr. 23, 2019 (Tue)~Jun. 16, 2019(Sun) cultural figures resided in Fukuoka from the to Tempo Period(18th century).

War and Our Way of Living 28 This series of exhibits is being held annually to commemorate “The Day of The Great Fukuoka Air Raid” of June 19, 1945. The Jun. 18, 2019 (Tue)~Aug. 18, 2019(Sun) 28th edition will introduce how women lived during World WarⅡ.

What swords can tell us is not only the history of battles. They had long been symbols of administrative power and they made Ancient Swords their first appearance in Japanese history in the Northern Kyushu area. This exhibition introduces swords from the 10th century Aug. 20, 2019 (Tue)~Oct. 20, 2019(Sun) BC to the 7th century AC and describes what they meant for people who lived in ancient times.

Newspapers of Modern Fukuoka Newspaper publication started in the Period and it became indispensable in our daily life. This exhibition introduces some Oct. 22, 2019 (Tue)~Dec. 22, 2019(Sun) interesting events happening in Fukuoka in the Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods, with articles from local newspapers.

Life at the Fukuoka Castle Town Even during the samurai period, people abided by the rules and paid for daily expenses, just like today. This exhibition explores Dec. 24, 2019 (Tue)~Feb 24, 2020(Mon) the way of living of samurai warriors and ordinary folks in the Fukuoka Castle town.

Shinie or “Drawing of death” is a genre of ukiyoe which was popular in the late Edo period. It featured celebrities of the time Shini-e "Death Print" such as famous Kabuki actors. This exhibition displays about 30 death drawings from our museum’s collection. Please don’t May. 8, 2019 (Wed)~Jul 7, 2019(Sun) miss it! Lord of the Kuroda Family, Who Once There were some lords of the Kuroda Clan, who were once seen as the successors of the feudal lord but didn’t take the Prospected to be the Feudal Lord opportunity. Compilation of Fukuoka’s Excavation Research “Compilation of Fukuoka’s Excavation Research” is a series exhibition which introduces Fukuoka city’s latest excavation 10 Oct. 29. 2019 (Tue) ~Jan. 19. 2020 (Sun) research result. This is the 10th edition.

Almanac of the Ancient Period This exhibition explains what kind of hopes and thoughts Japanese people had when they revise their calendar or name of the Apr. 9, 2019 (Tue) ~Jun. 9, 2019(Sun) era, through introducing historical artifacts that well represent the history of the Japanese calendar.

This exhibition introduces the graceful world of Do-yama festive floats (floats with even numbers 2, 4, and 6) together with the Hakata Gion Yamakasa Exhibition 19th rituals and tourist attractions of Hakata, people’s way of living, occupations and traditions in the medieval period. It also Jun. 11. 2019 (Tue) ~Aug. 4. 2019 (Sun) describes the lives of women of the period by showing some artwork and publications.

Tsutsu-gaki Dying Technique Tsutsu-gaki is a colorful and auspicious motif which is audaciously printed on dyed navy cloth. Enjoy the beautiful clothes Aug. 6. 2019 (Tue) ~Nov. 17. 2019 (Sun) exquisitely dyed by the hands of skilled artists.

Electric Weaving Machine Products The weaving machine was introduced for the first time in the Hakata district in the early Showa era. The machine enabled -Technical Innovation of Hakata Ori Textile- weavers to create textiles without creating patterns.
