Street Fighter
STREET FIGHTER by Luis Filipe Based on Capcom's videogame "Street Fighter II" Copyright © 2019 This is a fan script [email protected] OVER BLACK. All we hear is the excited CHEER of a crowd. Hundreds of voices roaring in unison, teasing something to come. Under those voices, there is also the rhythmic sound of TRAMPLES on the floor that sound like drums. CUT TO: INT. CORRIDOR - NIGHT A dirty, dimly lit corridor. A few meters ahead, a beam of light leaks through a door that gives access to another scenario. Standing in the corridor hidden in total shadow, a barefoot MAN attired in a white karate gi uniform tightens a black martial arts BELT. We do not see his face. The cheer continues, seeming to be coming from beyond that door in the hallway. After putting on the belt, the man takes a pair of RED GLOVES from his duffel bag, which is on a bench beside him. He wears them calmly. Finally, he also grabs a RED HEADBAND from the bag and ties it around his head. All this is almost ritualistic for him. When completed, the mysterious man walks toward the corridor door where comes the intense light. INT. STREET FIGHTER ARENA - NIGHT A large warehouse-like room. Wooden boxes surround the boundaries of the fighting area. And behind these boxes are the spectators, some sit in stands and others stand on feet. Our mysterious man comes in, revealing his face for the first time: RYU. A Japanese experienced martial artist. The audience goes wild to see him there. -

Virtual Spectating: Hearing Beyond the Video Arcade
Virtual Spectating: Hearing Beyond the Video Arcade Norman Makoto Su Patrick C. Shih School of Information and Library Studies Department of Informatics University College Dublin University of California, Irvine Dublin 4, Ireland Irvine, CA 92697-9440 [email protected] [email protected] The latest in the most popular head-to-head fighting video series, Super Street Fighter IV by Capcom, now features spectating functionality. Coupled with audio chat, players can both watch and participate in matches with anyone in the world. We describe a video analysis of over 36 hours of gameplay in SSF4. Our results show that players can deftly structure audio when spectating to transform gameplay in SSF4. This new hybrid spectator sport in which boundaries between actor and audience are blurred exhibits three significant characteristics: the audio recreates the arcade culture, appropriates “invisible” but real players, and symbolically creates power relations between mute and speaking gamers. We also present exploratory evidence that suggests a starkly different experience for female gamers who wish to audibly join in virtual spectating. Spectating, Performing, Audio, Video games, Fighting games, Super Street Fighter IV 1. INTRODUCTION host them, e-sports has proven to be an enormously profitable enterprise (Jonasson & Thiborg, 2010). In Spectating is about two key things. First, palpable South Korea, the government sponsors star players excitement comes not only from watching skilled (Policy Analysis & Research Team, 2007), and the play but being immersed in a crowd of spectators production quality of tournaments is akin to a who love such play. Second, play itself becomes Broadway musical, complete with dramatic music, more enjoyable when players are cognizant of their flashing lasers, and fog. -

March 9, 2021 Brenda Mallory Chair White House Council on Environmental Quality 730 Jackson Pl NW Washington, DC 20506 Via email Re: Utility disconnection moratorium for Tennessee Valley Authority Dear Ms. Mallory, Please find attached petitions signed by over 21,500 people from Tennessee and beyond urging the Tennessee Valley Authority to institute a utility shutoff moratorium throughout its service area. As the letters attached state, “Without electricity, people won’t be able to shelter in homes that are a safe temperature, support remote schooling for their kids, or refrigerate their medicines. It is a decision that literally has life-or-death consequences.” For several months throughout the pandemic, advocates have urged TVA to institute such a moratorium, but to no avail. We now call upon President Biden to act, by issuing an Executive Order directing TVA to keep people’s power on-- the only responsible option during a pandemic. Please also find attached a memo outlining the President’s authority to issue an Executive Order to this effect. Sincerely, Tom Cormons Executive Director Appalachian Voices Erich Pica President Friends of the Earth Cc: Gina McCarthy, White House National Security Advisor Representative Peter DeFazio, Chair, House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Senator Tom Carper, Chair, Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works Representative Frank Pallone, Chair, House Committee on Energy and Commerce Tennessee Congressional delegation Attachments: Executive Actions for Immediate COVID relief and economic recovery via the Tennessee Valley Authority, Appalachian Voices Appalachian Voices petition Appalachia Voices petition signatories Friends of the Earth petition Friends of the Earth petition signatories EXECUTIVE ACTIONS FOR IMMEDIATE COVID RELIEF AND ECONOMIC RECOVERY VIA THE TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY The Tennessee Valley Authority was established in the 1930s by a federal mandate to bring flood relief, economic stimulus and improved quality of life to the people of the Tennessee Valley. -

Fluid and Powerful Animation within Frame Restrictions Mariel Cartwright Lead Animator, Lab Zero Games Overview ●Animation Principles ●How it relates to gameplay ●Putting it together ●Reviewing Skullgirls ●Takeaways Who am I? Skullgirls? ● 2D animated fighting game for PSN/XBLA/ Steam ● All hand drawn by a team of traditional animators Animation Principles Silhouette ● Clear silhouette in your keys is the basis of making strong animation Anticipation ● Even one frame of anticipation is enough ● Gives the move contrast to make it look more powerful A note about anticipation ●Player characters generally need to move quicker than enemies to be responsive, so you might not have time for much anticipation (That being said, you should always have time for some) ●Enemy characters generally need to give the player time to react, so they need more anticipation Favoring your Keys ● In situations where you have limited frames, having inbetweens that emphasize your keys is important Followthrough ● Use followthrough effectively to help fill in the gaps where you may not have time for inbetweens Smears ● Smears also help fill in the gaps when you need to have a huge motion Smears Chun-Li from Street Fighter III: Third Strike Captain America from Marvel vs. Capcom Ibuki from Street Fighter III: Third Strike Overshoot ● One frame of an attack ‘overshooting’ its final key frame helps give it impact Overshoot ● Street Fighter III: Third Strike has a lot of great examples of overshoot, including this example with Makoto Breaking the body ● Don’t be afraid
