Tata Hexa Design

The Hexa is based on the same platform like the Aria and has a similar shape too. But the Hexa looks a lot different. This new design is fresh and a welcome change. The new front grille looks stylish and the smoked out headlamps blend well with the design. The fascia gets the humanity line, which is there on other new Tata cars as well. The side profile is like a crossover, however it does have some glam about it.

The tiny chrome inserts, the large wheel makes the Hexa look sporty. This MUV is stylish and is one of the best looking crossovers around. The Indian automaker has evolved in design and this products looks subtle yet classy. The rear also has the new tail lamps that are stretched

Tata Hexa Interiors

On the inside, the Indian auto maker seems to have done a fine job. The quality is one of the most important aspects that the company has worked on. The fit and finish of the materials is top notch. There seems to be no compromise in the styling and quality of materials used. The features on offer are also one of the best in segment. Touchscreen infotainment system by Harman with 10 speakers, navigation, bluetooth, reverse parking camera and the list goes on. There are six airbags offered on the top model.

The instrument panel on the Hexa is stylish and fresh. This new design is a welcome change from most of the other UVs, which have too many buttons. There is a neat looking black dashboard with the standard Tata steering wheel. This time around, it has leather wrap and even cruise controls too. The large touchscreen system is at the centre with newly designed AC vents, and climate control at the bottom. Each element at the front oozes a sense of good quality materials.

The infotainment system also comes with multiple intelligent features for enhanced convenience such as on-screen SMS display, SMS readout and rear view camera display on infotainment screen. Smart USB charging ports which modulate charging, based on the connected device along with adjustable multi-coloured ambient car illumination in eight different customized colours (white, orange, red, purple, blue, cyan, bluish green, fluorescent green) that changes based on the select drive modes make it an intelligent car to drive. The other safety features on the Hexa are ESP, vehicle dynamic control, Traction Control System and Engine Drag Control System.

The Harman music system on the Tata Hexa doesn’t fail to impress us. It plays its output through 10 JBL speakers and 320W amplifier. The sound quality is better than what we expected. This system gets reverse parking camera, however maps are available only through an app called as NaviMap. We wish, this was offered along with the system itself.

Tata Hexa Space

The leather seats are well bolstered and offer good support. This time around, a lot of cubby holes and other practical bits have been added. There is a central arm rest in the front row, which doubles as storage box too. There is a dual glovebox, where the upper compartment is a cooling box. The second row, if a six-seater will have captain seats. These seats slide and even recline. Now, you cannot complete tumble it down to access the third row.

Only the seven seater version has that option. In the six-seater, the best way to access the rear is between the two seats. Now, other important aspect of the Hexa is its space. There is more than sufficient knee room in the first two rows. The third row has decent enough knee room and the head room is just fine. The boot is a bit tight, especially if you need to carry luggage for seven people. A carrier shall be recommended then. The Hexa on the inside, feels like a German-built UV

Tata Hexa Engine

A 2.2-litre will be doing the duty on this crossover. This has been re-tuned to churn 156 horses and 400Nm of torque. Coming mated to a six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, this will have sufficient power. This will be the first Tata vehicle to get an automatic. In terms of performance, it should be good enough and not suffer with any kind of lag. The VARiCOR engine has been tuned for better performance and fuel-efficiency too.

The Tata Hexa will come with four driving modes, one is comfort, sport, rough road and auto. These will be offered only on the 4x4 version only for manual. This will be the first UV in this segment to offer this. The suspension set-up and road grip levels change in each of the modes. The 19-inch wheels add on to the muscle and makes the Hexa look sporty.

Tata Hexa Performance

The 2.2-litre engine on the Hexa was never going to disappoint us. However, it has astonished us. This mill comes with six-speed manual and automatic options. This is the first automatic from Tata, and they have nailed it. The automatic has amazing performance, and this feels better than the

6 / 9 MotorOctane Indian Cars/Bikes News and Review https://motoroctane.com manual. The manual too is brilliant in performance, however the automatic is so seamless and instant. The hard work put together by the engineering team shows up. This is the best automatic in its segment by far.

There isn’t too much noise in the cabin from the engine until at high revs. This engine is torquey and the acceleration is almost linear. We haven’t driven too much in the city, but we were able to drive without any stress in a higher gear at low engine speeds. The engine has good enough grunt at low engine speed. This comes with two extra modes, Manual and even Sport. The manual is offered with Auto, comfort, Sport and Rough Road. The Auto and Rough road mode work on 4x4, while the other modes on 4x2.

Tata Hexa Mileage

It is a bit too early to give the exact numbers. We haven’t driven the Hexa enough to share the exact efficiency. However, we reckon the automatic should return about 11 km/l and the diesel manual about 12 km/l in a mix of city and highway conditions. The Hexa manual was showing us about 14.3 km/l on the Driver Information system, when we were cruising at 90 km/hr.

Tata Hexa Ride and Handling

Tata vehicles always have good ride. The Hexa is the best in the offering. Despite the 19-inch wheels, we loved the way the UV handles. Tata Hexa has set a new benchmark in this segment for ride and handling. With such good road visibility, limited blind spots and such a responsive chassis. This feels like a nimble car that is being driven. It doesn’t feel huge at any point.

The other important aspect that makes the Hexa exciting is despite its high ground clearance of 208mm, it has limited body roll. The steering wheel is responsive too. The leather wrapped one looks great to grip. This is surely, the new face of Tata products.
