GENERAL INTRODUCTION The following systematic revisions of New Zealand taxa within the Arionacean subfamilies F l ammulininae Climo, 1969, Otoconchinae Cockerell, 1893 and Endodontinae Suter, 1913 (family Endodontidae Pilsbry, 1894) are based on quantitative reappraisals of shell morphology and studi es on radular and soft-part morphology. The last major revision of these New Zealand pulmonate taxa was presented by Suter (1 913) i n hi s Manual of the New Zealand Mollusca, and illustra ted in hi s Atlas of Plates which appeared in 1915. Suter' s work was, as were the great majority of earlier pulmonate systematic studies, based on studies of shell and radular morphology, and was the major contribution towards the erection of a systematic hierarchy which illustrated the indigenous nature of the New Zealand endodontid fauna. -

Echinostome trematode parasites have complex, multiple-host life-cycles, often involving migratory bird definitive hosts, thus leading to widespread distributions. Here, we examined the echinostome diversity in freshwater ecosystems at high latitude locations in Iceland, Finland, Ireland and Alaska (USA). We report 14 echinostome species identified morphologically and molecularly from analyses of nad1 and 28S rDNA sequence data. We found echinostomes parasitising snails of 11 species from the families Lymnaeidae, Planorbidae, Physidae and Valvatidae. -

Arinia angduensis, A. loumboensis,Eostrobilops infrequens, and Hemiplecta esculenta. INTRODUCTION Even though quite a numberof molluscanspecies has been reported from Vietnam by now, that part of the fauna cannot yet be considered well-known. Only half the material collected during two surveys (Vermeulen & Whitten, 1998; Maassen, 2003) in northern Vietnam, and consisting of about 310 species, couldbe identified.This does not mean that the other half consists of that but number of species are new to science, quite a new ones may be expected, in particular amongst the minute snails. Formerly, small gastropods were described sometimes without any figures (especially by Von Moellendorff), or with illustrations such small scale that characteristic details at a are not or hardly visible. Only by studying the type specimens of all congeneric species from a particular region their be verified then. These do the that identity can problems not apply to species are described in this as new paper. Similar species are unknown from the area as could be concluded from the literature. Peijnenburg1,2* Abstract Background: Pteropods are planktonic gastropods that are considered as bio-indicators to monitor impacts of ocean acidification on marine ecosystems. In order to gain insight into their adaptive potential to future environmental changes, it is critical to use adequate molecular tools to delimit species and population boundaries and to assess their genetic connectivity. We developed a set of target capture probes to investigate genetic variation across their large-sized genome using a population genomics approach. Target capture is less limited by DNA amount and quality than other genome-reduced representation protocols, and has the potential for application on closely related species based on probes designed from one species. Results: We generated the first draft genome of a pteropod, Limacina bulimoides, resulting in a fragmented assembly of 2.9 Gbp. Using this assembly and a transcriptome as a reference, we designed a set of 2899 genome- wide target capture probes for L. bulimoides. The set of probes includes 2812 single copy nuclear targets, the 28S rDNA sequence, ten mitochondrial genes, 35 candidate biomineralisation genes, and 41 non-coding regions. The capture reaction performed with these probes was highly efficient with 97% of the targets recovered on the focal species. -

Broad Street, in Athens, Georgia, USA. The topic of the workshop is Recent “Incorporating Environmental Flows, Climate Change, and Publications 8 Ecosystem Services into Freshwater Mussel Conservation and Management”. Morning and afternoon sessions on Thursday will address science, policy, and legal issues Upcoming related to establishing and maintaining environmental flow recommendations for mussels. The session on Friday Meetings 8 morning will consider how to incorporate climate change into freshwater mussel conservation; talks will range from an overview of national and regional activities to local case Contributed studies. Last but not least we give a summary of his scientific achievements culminating in 206 publications and containing descriptions of up to now 42 specific taxa. Land Molluscs from the Northern Mariana Islands, Micronesia Taiji Kurozumi Natural History Museum and Institute, Chiba 955-2 Aoba-cho, Chuo-ku, Chiba 260, Japan Abstract More than twenty-four species of land molluscs, belonging to 13 families and 20 genera were collected from the 9 islands of the northern Mariana Islands, and 22 species are recorded for the first time from the islands. Six introduced species were recognized, including Achatina fulica and its predators, Euglandina rosea and Gonaxis kibweziensis. Almost all of the genera are widely distributed on Micronesian islands. Only one species, Ptychalaea sp., may show dispersal from the northern area to the northern Marianas. Key words: Land molluscs, Ptychalaea, Achatina fulica, northern Mariana Islands.
