2017 Catalog 1 Origins 2017 CATALOG 1 Origins For many Europeans, Duralex is a magical name that reminds them of their childhood school days when they played number games at lunchtime using the little inlaid numbers found at the bottom of their tumblers. But Duralex is more than a fond memory or icon, Duralex is a building block technology. Duralex owes its birth to the Saint-Gobain group and its industrial patent for molded, tempered glass, developed in 1939 in the La ChapelleSaint-Mesmin factory. This industrial process gives the tumbler a precision transparency, lasting clarity, and unparrelled strength. Since its creation, the expertise and know-how of its collaborators have given the brand its international notoriety with its nearly unbreakable tumblers whose pure, simple style is never outdated. Tempering Process The tempering operation consists of heating the glass to a temperature of 1292°F and then brutally cooling the glass. This treatment creates in the glass a force or reaction, which improves most of its physical properties including resistance to mechanical stress (bending, shocks and impacts) and to thermal shocks. Resulting Mechanical Properties: the product is 2.5 times more resistant than a fired product of equal thickness. Resulting Thermal Properties: tempered glass can resist a thermal shock of 266°F, while classical glass breaks from a thermal shock of about 104°F. Tempered glass conserves the optical and acoustic properties of each basic product. After being tempered, the glass can no longer be reshaped. Slight deformations may be observed after tempering which are inherent in the manufacturing process. Environmentally Friendly The glass does not go to waste. Duralex is ruthless with respect to the quality of its products, yet also knows that it is important to give raw material a second chance. Products withdrawn for quality reasons are recycled on site and reintegrated into the production cycle. A Duralex product can therefore contain up to 35% of glass that was recycled. However, Duralex’s high quality standards exclude the use of collected glass. Our glass is 100% Duralex, from the beginning to the end.Duralex’s commitment to the environment does not stop at the product. Cardboard used in the packaging is environment-friendly and production waste is collected for recycling. Social Media Duralex hosts an imformative Facebook page and a regularly updated Youtube channel.Follow Duralex on Twitter and post your photos of our products in use on Pinterest. Since 1945, Duralex has pioneered tempered glass technology, a process we specialize in. This specific treatment of glass, which consists in sudden cooling of the material previously heated to a temperature of about 1292°F, improves most of its physical qualities. !1 Tevilas Kelim - Immersion of Utensils in a Mikveh: Please note: When discussing the laws of Immersing utensils in a Mikveh, the Mikveh must be a 100% Kosher Mikveh that could also be used for women. That could be the very Mikveh that people use, a lake, or special smaller Mikveh that is designated strictly for utensils. Criteria for Immersing Utensils in the Mikveh. These may be classified according to: 1. TYPES OF UTENSILS: 1. Eating and drinking utensils, and utensils used for cooking, frying, making or other food preparation, all require tevilah [immersion in a Mikveh] if they were manufactured or purchased from a non-Jew. 2. The aforementioned utensils must be immersed in the Mikveh, whether they are brought to the table or not; whether they are new or old; or whether they are used for hot or cold food. 3. Utensils used in the initial stages of food preparation; e.g., kneading utensils, meat grinders, etc, are immersed without a blessing. 4. Only utensils that come into direct contact with food or drink require tevilah. 5. Disposable utensils, utensils manufactured from aluminum foil, do not require tevilah. 6. Storage bottles/containers require tevilah (if food or drink stored in them is unwrapped). If these containers are not normally brought to the table, no blessing is said. 7. Utensils manufactured from metal: aluminum, tin, iron, gold, silver, copper, steel, lead, etc., and glass utensils require tevilah with a blessing. 8. Utensils manufactured from plastic, marble, porcelain, formica, or china do not require tevilah. (Antique china does require tevilah with a blessing.) 9.

  • Hagalah: a Koshering Process Min Hatorah, Not All Utensils Which Become Non-Kosher by Absorbing the Taste of Non-Kosher Food Can Be Purged, Or Koshered
Hagalah: A Koshering Process Min Hatorah, not all utensils which become non-kosher by absorbing the taste of non-kosher food can be purged, or koshered. For instance, it is impossible to purge “taste” from earthenware. Once an earthenware utensil is rendered non-kosher, it must be shattered and thrown away. On the other hand, metal vessels can be purged of their absorbed taste through a procedure called hagalah, purging. The halachos of hagalah are complicated, and what follows is merely an outline of its basic principles. [Unless otherwise noted, the following halachos apply to the Pesach koshering process as well.] Our discussion here refers only to the process of hagalah, not to be confused with other types of koshering such as libun kal and libun chamur, which have different rules altogether. Which materials can be koshered by hagalah? Utensils made from any type of metal,1 stone,2 wood,3 bone,4 leather,5 or natural rubber6 may be koshered by hagalah. Earthenware,7 china, porcelain,8 glassware9 and paper10 utensils cannot be koshered by hagalah.11 The poskim differ as to whether hagalah applies to utensils made out of the following materials: Plastic, melmac, nylon, corningware, corelle, pyrex, duralex, enamel, formica, teflon and silverstone.12 When possible, these utensils should not be koshered by hagalah. In cases of absolute necessity or great financial loss, there are poskim who permit these items to be koshered. A rav must be consulted. 1 Gold, silver, copper, steel, aluminum, etc. 2 O.C. 451:8. However, what is known today as "stoneware" is not made from stone.

  • PREPARING for PESACH MAAOT CHITIM It Is Most Appropriate to Be Charitable This Time of Year to Help Those in Need to Obtain Proper Pesach Provisions
Young Israel of Hollywood-Ft. Lauderdale Pesach 5780 PREPARING FOR PESACH MAAOT CHITIM It is most appropriate to be charitable this time of year to help those in need to obtain proper Pesach provisions. Donations to the Young Israel Charity Fund earmarked for Pesach would be proper. You can donate online by going to https://www.yih.org/maotchitin. Please give generously. MECHIRAT CHAMETZ NEW FOR 5780 This year we created an easy-to-use online form to appoint Rabbi Weinstock as your agent for selling your chametz in a virtual fashion. To access the online form click on the link https://www.yih.org/sellingchametz# We ask that you utilize the online form in order to streamline the process. Since you will not perform a kinyan in person as part of the process this year, please do all the steps asked of you in the form - It is recommended that you verbally declare out loud: “I fully permit Rabbi Yosef Weinstock to act on my behalf to sell all chametz possessed by me and to lease all places in which my chametz may be found, for a duration that he believes necessary. This is a serious delegation, as if I made a kinyan to show its binding nature.” BEDIKAT CHAMETZ The formal search is conducted TUESDAY NIGHT, APRIL 7, AFTER 8:15 PM. The search is conducted by the light of a candle with one single wick. (An electric flashlight is permitted, but somehow doesn't lend the same emotions and feelings.) The procedure and blessing is outlined in most Haggadahs.
