Confinement of Fermions in Tachyon Matter at Finite Temperature Adamu Issifu,1, ∗ Julio C.M. Rocha,1, y and Francisco A. The model involves fermions coupled with a modified Abelian gauge field in a tachyon matter. It reproduces some important QCD features such as, confinement, deconfinement, chiral symmetry and quark-gluon-plasma (QGP) phase transitions. The study may shed light on both light and heavy quark potentials and their string tensions. Flux-tube and Cornell potentials are developed depending on the regime under consideration. Other confining properties such as scalar glueball mass, gluon mass, glueball-meson mixing states, gluon and chiral condensates are exploited as well. The study is focused on two possible regimes, the ultraviolet (UV) and the infrared (IR) regimes. I. INTRODUCTION Confinement of heavy quark states QQ¯ is an important subject in both theoretical and experimental study of high temperature QCD matter and quark-gluon-plasma phase (QGP) [1]. The production of heavy quarkonia such as the fundamental state ofcc ¯ in the Relativistic Heavy Iron Collider (RHIC) [2] and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) [3] provides basics for the study of QGP. Lattice QCD simulations of quarkonium at finite temperature indicates that J= may persists even at T = 1:5Tc [4] i.e.

Please contact them directly if you wish to use their material. 1 Hello All I must confess that for many months up to the time that I boarded my flight took off from Heathrow bound for Istanbul, and to travel from there to the Dardanelles, my feeling was one of considerable apprehension – was I wasting my money, would I learn and see much, would a troublesome knee hold out? Yet, wheezing my way up to Plugge’s Plateau a few days later, that feeling had long since evaporated even though I could now fully understand why the Turkish soldiers had thought that their Australian counterparts worshipped the God “Bastard”! I learnt and saw much, my money was well spent (a common Jersey consideration!), and I made it back safely, albeit in a somewhat worn out and bedraggled state. Gallipoli was a first-rate experience, and I would recommend it and the Holts’ tour company to anyone. Hopefully, I can convey that experience adequately in later pages of this Journal, but trust that I will be forgiven if I don’t, as a few days after my return, my brain is still scrambled and too full of images, impressions and information from the trip to guarantee a decent article.

Jim played his first senior game for the Melbourne Football Club in 1987 and retired 264 games later in 1998. He received the Brownlow Medal in 1991, and won four Melbourne Football Club Best & Fairest awards (1991, 1995, 1996, 1997), equaling the Club record. He played an AFL record-breaking 244 consecutive games between 1987 and 1998. Jim was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in 2003 and Melbourne’s Hall of Fame in 2006. Jim co-founded The Reach Foundation in 1994, and currently serves as an executive director, having recently stepped down as CEO. Reach is a non-profit, non- denominational organisation committed to supporting young people. Reach works with over 50,000 teenagers a year, encouraging them to discover their purpose and realise their potential in a positive and supportive learning environment. Jim was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2007 for his work with youth and contribution to AFL.

  • Geologic Studies of Planetary Surfaces Using Radar Polarimetric Imaging 2
Geologic studies of planetary surfaces using radar polarimetric imaging 2 4 Lynn M. Carter NASA Goddard Space Flight Center 8 Donald B. Campbell 9 Cornell University 10 11 Bruce A. Campbell 12 Smithsonian Institution 13 14 14 Abstract: Radar is a useful remote sensing tool for studying planetary geology because it is 15 sensitive to the composition, structure, and roughness of the surface and can penetrate some 16 materials to reveal buried terrain. The Arecibo Observatory radar system transmits a single 17 sense of circular polarization, and both senses of circular polarization are received, which allows 18 for the construction of the Stokes polarization vector. From the Stokes vector, daughter products 19 such as the circular polarization ratio, the degree of linear polarization, and linear polarization 20 angle are obtained. Recent polarimetric imaging using Arecibo has included Venus and the 21 Moon. These observations can be compared to radar data for terrestrial surfaces to better 22 understand surface physical properties and regional geologic evolution. For example, 23 polarimetric radar studies of volcanic settings on Venus, the Moon and Earth display some 24 similarities, but also illustrate a variety of different emplacement and erosion mechanisms. 25 Polarimetric radar data provides important information about surface properties beyond what can 26 be obtained from single-polarization radar. Future observations using polarimetric synthetic 27 aperture radar will provide information on roughness, composition and stratigraphy that will 28 support a broader interpretation of surface evolution. 29 2 29 1.0 Introduction 30 31 Radar polarimetry has the potential to provide more information about surface physical 32 properties than single-polarization backscatter measurements, and has often been used in remote 33 sensing observations of Solar System objects.
