FRA Requirements This Chapter of the VSRP presents information related to Virginia’s entire rail system as required by 49 CFR § 266.15 (c)(2) and 49 CFR § 266.15 (c)(6). The data required by the section is presented differently than stated in the requirement, to conform to the methodology used in the VTrans2035 documents. Virginia’s VTrans2035 methodology uses corridors connecting portions of Virginia and the surrounding states to define needs and programs. For the rail system, these corridors mirror the Class I high density freight lines. The requirement of 49 CFR § 266.15 (c)(2) is fulfilled by the Official State Railroad Map that is presented at a reduced scale in Figure 5-2. The data required by 49 CFR § 266.15 (c)(2)(i) is presented in figures 5-5 Class I Railroads and 5-10 Shortline Railroads. The data required by 49 CFR § 266.15 (c)(2)(ii) is presented in figures 5-8 and 5-9 that depict the tonnage within Virginia and the tonnage passing through Virginia.
