Blue Planet II Live In Concert was previously scheduled for July 2020, but the event was postponed due to Covid-19. Following the incredible success of the BAFTA-award winning BBC Studios natural history series Blue Planet II, Blue Planet II Live in Concert will bring the wonders and mysteries of the planet’s oceans and its colourful inhabitants to the stage, in a screening incorporating live music and narration by a special guest who is yet to be announced. Blue Planet II Live In Concert will present a selection of stunning visuals from the television series, highlighting the incredible natural wonders of our blue planet in detail, projected on a big screen. Accompanied by the original immersive music score by renowned musicians Hans Zimmer, Jacob Shea and David Fleming which will be performed live by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO). BBC Studios Australia and New Zealand acting head of live entertainment, Louise Hill, says “We’re thrilled to reconfirm dates for Kiwi audiences to enjoy the magic of Blue Planet II Live in Concert. Following the tremendous success of Planet Earth II Live in Concert, we’re certain New Zealand audiences will be blown away by the show’s awe-inspiring footage and spectacular music score performed by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.” Blue Planet II Live in Concert is a live adaptation of a television story following the incredible success of the award-winning television series Blue Planet II. During the four years filming for Blue Planet II, the teams embarked on 125 expeditions, travelled to 39 countries, including New Zealand, and filmed across every continent and ocean. They spent 6,000 hours deep-sea diving, 1,000 hours in submersibles, filming everywhere from our familiar shores to the deepest seas. Logistically, some of these expeditions could be compared to a trip into space – such was the effort. In the process, the camera teams encountered creatures that appeared so strange that they really did seem to come from a different planet. A fantastical journey from icy polar seas to pulsating coral reefs, from the luminous deep sea to enormous kelp forests: immerse yourself in Blue Planet II Live in Concert, an epic experience that you will never forget.     Ofcom – Future of Public Service Media: Open University Response Summary 1. Education is a crucial part of the Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) requirements. Several of the statutory requirements set out in Section 264 of the Communications Act 2003 relate to educational objectives. There are opportunities to strengthen these requirements as part of the new Public Service Media (PSM) offer. 2. The Open University (OU) plays a key role in supporting the delivery of PSB requirements around education through its partnership with the BBC. The partnership co-produces high-quality factual content across several channels and platforms, which is developed in collaboration with academic experts and closely linked to related educational materials hosted by the OU. A key objective of the partnership is to encourage people to embark on learning journeys from the informal, factual content produced with the BBC, through online and printed educational resources which enhance and enrich their broadcast/digital experience, to taking up formal learning opportunites inspired by watching, listening to and engaging with the content produced as part of the partnership. 3. In 2019/20: • A total of 257 hours of content produced via the OU/BBC partnership was broadcast by the BBC. • This resulted in a combined total of 308 million viewing/listening “events” and digital engagement interactions. • The three most popular television programmes broadcast – A Perfect Planet, Springwatch and Hospital (Series 5) all saw viewing figures in excess of 22 million. • There were 765,000 unique visitors to the online educational content related to the OU/BBC partnership hosted on the OU’s free online learning platform, OpenLearn.

    Elemental 2019 Festival Summary Credit: Max Burgess - Tūrama Festival Festival Overview The inaugural Elemental festival took place throughout Tāmaki Makaurau in July 2019. Elemental brought the region’s winter story to life for 31 days of dazzling light shows, delicious culinary events, spectacular cultural performances and uplifting entertainment. Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) established E l e m e n t a l to support Auckland’s visitor economy by encouraging visitation to the region during winter, particularly for the accommodation and hospitality sectors. The genesis of the concept was contained within D e s t in a t i o n A K L 2 0 2 5 – the new destination- management focused strategy developed in partnership with industry and released in May last year. A key focus of the strategy – and something industry was keen to see activated – was a more even spread of visitors throughout the region, and throughout the calendar year. Work began to develop a concept which, over time, will grow visitation in a season which is a traditionally quieter time. There is strong belief Auckland has all the ingredients to be a world-class destination for domestic and international visitors. In 2019 Elemental saw a diverse programme of 67 free and ticketed events, from multi-day outdoor lighting events to international culinary offerings, spectacular cultural performances and uplifting entertainment. The programme included events that ATEED invested in and events that joined the festival on a marketing-only basis Elemental also told Auckland’s unique food story through Elemental Feast, a menu- activation programme delivered by Lemongrass Productions, which saw 120 participating eateries deliver a special festival dish inspired by the elements (fire, water, earth and air).

The BBC welcomes the opportunity to respond to Ofcom’s Initial Consultation: Fees review for fixed link and satellite services published on 21 May 2015. Accordingly, we set out an initial response below along with further detail where most relevant. We look forward to further engagement as Ofcom’s proposals are developed. 2. The BBC is committed to efficient use of spectrum as well as providing value for money for licence fee payers. These responsibilities apply both to programme making and distribution functions which ultimately deliver services enjoyed by 97% of UK adults each week.1 3. The BBC uses fixed and satellite services for programme making and distribution, holding Wireless Telegraphy Act licences as well as contracts with commercial providers of services that use spectrum. 4. Nationally, the BBC’s direct-to-home (DTH) satellite distribution enables the provision of important coverage to populations out of reach of the terrestrial transmitter network.
