There are simple things that we can all do, every day, to help protect our Blue Planet. Here are some ideas to help make your home an eco-friendlier one: CHECKLIST

REDUCE YOUR ENERGY USAGE Tick off each idea: Next time you feel chilly, try layering up rather than turning up the heating. Switch off lights when you’re not in a room, and unplug electronics when you’re not using them. Turn the lights off These actions will use less energy, so there’ll be less carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air that makes Earth warmer. Unplug electronics when not in use SAY NO TO SINGLE-USE PLASTIC Rubbish that’s left on the ground can wash into drains, fl ush into the sea and be Turn down/off the heating eaten by wildlife. Plastic can take hundreds of years to break down so that’s why countries are beginning to ban single-use plastics such as carrier bags. Use reusable bags or canvas bags CONSIDER ECO-FRIENDLY PRODUCTS Using eco-friendly products means we will have less toxins in our air and less Use eco-friendly shampoo chemicals going into the water. You can get eco-friendly products for a variety of things such as cleaning surfaces, fl oors, and furniture. Also consider using eco- friendly shampoos and conditioners too. Recycle REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE Share toys/clothes Try reducing the amount of plastic you use by carrying a reusable water bottle, reusable bags and saying no to plastic straws. Rather than throwing things away, you no longer want we can share with others, so that old toys and clothes can become new again. Those things that can’t be reduced or reused can be carefully recycled. This keeps them out of landfi ll so they can be born again: cardboard boxes can become paper, fruit and vegetable peelings can be composted into soil. Always get an adult to help when using scissors.
