ThrottleUp ThrottleupthepowertoyourtrackbypressingthetopendoftheThrottle ControlRockerSwitchfirmlyforabout5seconds,untiltheengine'sheadlightand lightedcarsburnbright.Thenputtheengineintomotionbyfirmlypressingthe Directionbutton(holditforapproximately1second)onyourremoteonce.Iftheengine doesnotbegintomoveassoonasyoufirmlypresstheDirectionbutton,youmaynot havesentenoughvoltagetothetracktomakethetrainmove.Pressthethrottleupfora fewmoresecondsuntilthetrainbeginstomove. Whiletheengineisprogrammedtostartwiththespeedcontrolfeatureactivated,youcan opttoturnitoff.Thismeanstheengine'sspeedwillfallasitlaborsupahillandincrease asittravelsdownward.Itisalsoaffectedbytheadditionorreleasingofcarswhileonthe run.Becausetheenginewillrunmoreslowlyatagiventhrottlevoltagewhenspeed controlisonthanwhenitisoff,youshouldadjustthethrottletoalowerpowerlevelfor operationwithspeedcontrolofftoavoidhigh-speedderailments.Whenspeedcontrolis off,thevolumewilldroptoallowforbetterlowvoltageoperation.
Toturnspeedcontrolonandoff, puttheengineinneutral,thenquicklytapthe transformer'swhistlebuttononetimethenquicklytaptheBellbuttontwotimes,allowing approximately½secondtolapsebetweeneachquickbuttonpress.Repeatthe1whistle, 2bellscodetoreturnittotheothercondition.Youwillwanttodothisduringtheinitial neutraluponstart-upifyouevercouplethisenginetoanotherenginethatisnotequipped withspeedcontroltoavoiddamagingthemotorsineitherengine.Eachtimeyoushut downtheenginecompletely,itwillautomaticallyturnspeedcontrolon. Tocleanthetrack,useRailKingTrackCleaningFluid andacleanragordenatured(notrubbing)alcohol. Unplugthetransformerandwipetherailsofthetrack, turningtheragfrequentlytoensurethatyouareusing cleanclothontherails.Becausethemanufacturing processleavesacoatingonRealTraxcenterrail,youshouldcleantherailsafterthefirst 30minutesofuse(youmaynoticeanelectricalsmellduringinitialuseasthecoating wearsoff;thisisnormal).Thereafter,keepaneyeonthetrackandcleanitwhenitgets dirtytoensuregoodelectricalcontactandtolengthenthelifeofthetires.
TractionTireReplacementInstructions Yourlocomotiveisequippedwithtwoneoprenerubbertractiontiresontherearsetof flangeddrivers.Whilethesetiresareextremelydurable,youmayneedtoreplacethemat somepoint.
STEP ! Removethesiderods(therodsthatconnecteachdrivewheeltotheother)from thewheelsinordertoslipthenewtireoverthegrooveddrivewheel.Thesebolts canbeloosenedwitha5mmnutdriver.
! Cleanthegrooveusingacottonswabanddenaturedalcohol.
STEP ! Makesuretheoldtirehasbeencompletelyremovedfromthegrooveinthedrive wheel,usingarazorbladeorsmallflatheadscrewdrivertopryawayanyremains. ! Cleanthegrooveusingacottonswabanddenaturedalcohol. ! Slipthenewtireontothewheel.Youmayfinditusefultousetwosmallflathead screwdriverstostretchthetireoverthewheel. !
