Dear ICSD Members,
After an initial letter sent in July 2020 with the main information about the headquarters of the 2021 Summer Deaflympics and about the organization of the event in general, we remain committed and dedicated to planning and executing everything necessary for us to do edition 24th Summer Deaflympics another milestone for ICSD.
Some contacts were made with the Plural Committee on different subjects and we want to inform everyone about four main issues:
1) Volunteers: We are planning in a very detailed way what will be the needs we will have in relation to the number of volunteers so that deaf athletes and teams feel safe wherever they are. We have a group of approximately 15 people working to refine the needs of volunteers that we will have and also in the handling of volunteers and the regulation that this function requires with their rights and duties. We believe that until December we will open registrations so that people can complete the registration with their information and we can thus proceed with the organization and logistics of this item, a process so fundamental in Deaflympics. We also inform that we are already in the recording stage of the videos that will be made available in the online classes of Brazilian Sign Language and International Sign that will be provided to the volunteers so that communication is a link of approximation between deaf and listeners and not of separation.
2) COVID-19: This is an issue that has left everyone very concerned and uncertain about the edition of the Summer Deaflympics in 2021. It is an atypical moment for everyone and we need to deal with this new reality that presents itself. In the world the World Health Organization (WHO) created protocols for healthy living, in Brazil
the Ministries of Health has also presented security measures, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul the government is attentive and always thinking about the best plan for the population and in Caxias do Sul and in the region it follows the same way, where care measures are being followed and respected. the Plural Committee of the 2021 Deaflympics is working intensively on a COVID-19 Protocol so that all ICSD members can be safe. In addition, we are outlining different scenarios for the organization of the 24th Summer Deaflympics. We believe that we will have 3 scenarios for the event, this also taking into account the 2021 Olympics, being a NORMAL Scenario, another RESTRICTED and the SEVERE Scenario. Soon we will have these proposals finalized and will forward them for the approval of the ICSD so that they can be evaluated and thus everyone will be informed about these scenarios because it is a worldwide concern and we are not neglecting this item in the organization of the event.
3) Accommodations: the Plural Committee, in partnership with the Business Union of Gastronomy and Hospitality in the Grape and Wine Region (SEGH), is finalizing the blocking contracts with the hotels of the meeting so that we can welcome everyone who will come to the event. Our intention is that we can accommodate everyone in the best possible way because Brazil is known as a very hospitable country and we wish you to feel that way when you arrive here. The hotels are already open in our region working with all care and following the care protocol of the world, country, state and region. Also in November, we intend to send an official letter containing the main information of the hotels on accommodation options and values so that countries can organize themselves more safely. We also inform you that we are developing our own system for the 2021 Summer Deaflympics, which is already well advanced and in its final stage. In this system, it will be possible for countries to make reservations according to their needs.
4) Locations Guide: We are happy to inform everyone that we have finalized the Guide with the places where we will have the sports modalities of the 24th Summer
Deaflympics. The Guide is attached and is interactive, so if you want to access the map on Google Maps just click on the link below the map image that will direct you to the site and thus you will be able to get to know the entire region. We inform you that the venues may still undergo some changes because, we will only have the official registrations 6 months before the event, but we will keep in touch informing you about everything, because we aim at the transparency and security that all who will come to Brazil in 2021.
