Kiedis’s history is investigated through the lens of Erik Erikson’s theory of identity development. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) as a means to platform the psychobiographic methodology, this study explores Kiedis’s creativity and writing as intrinsic aspects of his identity. In addition, the analysis attempts to understand how Kiedis resolved his identity crises, and puts forward a presentation of Kiedis’s subjective experiences of his identity development. Through this in-depth analysis, the study concludes that Kiedis is engaged in an infinite moratorium, and in so doing demonstrates the value of using the combined methods of IPA and psychobiography to understand the human condition. Februar 2016 ABSTRACT Diese Arbeit bildet die Grundlage für die mündliche Masterprüfung im Fach Musik an der Pädagogischen Hochschule Luzern. Jeder Studierende wählt dafür einen Themenbereich aus und bereitet diesen so auf, dass der Leser einen Einblick in die Thematik erhält und diesen schulpraktisch anwenden kann. Bei meiner Arbeit habe ich mich für die Red Hot Chili Peppers entschieden. Als Jugendlicher hat mich die Band fasziniert und ich höre die Musik heute noch gerne. Die Band ist keine gewöhnliche Band. Kaum eine Formation in der Musikgeschichte hat so regelmässig, über einen solch grossen Zeitraum, erfolgreich Alben produziert. Die Geschichte der Band ist geprägt von Schicksalsschlägen, unzähligen Formationswechseln und der langjährigen Freundschaft zweier Männer. Anfänglich eine skurrile Band, welche nur mit einer Socke bekleidet auftrat und zu rebellisch war, um sich in eine musikalische Schublade stecken zu lassen, haben sie sich zu einer der grössten Bands überhaupt gemausert. Die Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Geschichte und Herkunft der Band sowie einzelner Songs. Ausserdem werden Lieder und Umsetzungsideen so aufgearbeitet, dass sie im Unterricht realisierbar sind.
