It’s a Wonderful Life Nov. 16-18 Get ready for the holidays with this Christmas classic performed by our very own Pell City Players. This is the heart-warming saga of George Bailey, the everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls whose dreams of escape and adventure have been repeatedly quashed by notions of family obligations and civic duty. It is Christmas Eve, and George’s guardian angel, Clarence, descends to save him from despair. And to remind him (by showing him what the world would be like had he never been born) that his has been after all, a wonderful life. … It not only celebrates the season, it celebrates the American philosophy of life — hard work, fair play and the love and support of family and community will be rewarded. Magic City Choral Society Christmas Concert Dec. 7 Christmas isn’t complete without a Christmas concert as only the Magic City Choral Society can perform it. The choir will warm our spirits with the Sounds of the Season in a one hour concert featuring live piano and over 90 voices. Free admission. No assigned seating. The Platters Jan. 26 They’re back by popular demand. Come, see and hear why this has become a new year tradition. The unmistakable, international sound of The Platters comes to center stage at the Pell City Center after having toured in some 75 countries, still spending much time abroad. Playing venues from Madison Square Garden to the Bottom Line, the group is still delighting audiences on a regular basis. On four different occasions, they have played for the Governor’s Convention and most recently played for a private gathering of heads of state in Washington, D.C. Among their more than 20 movie appearances are “Rock Around The Clock Tonight” and “ The Girl Can’t Help It.” In 1990, The Platters were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute to a group that has meant so much to the music world for decades. You will want to sing along with Only You, I’m Sorry, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, My Prayer, The Great Pretender and all the rest. It is an evening stroll down memory lane as only The Platters can provide. Three on a String Reunion with Andy Meginniss Feb. 23 Jerry Ryan, Bobby Horton, and Brad Ryan have been having a good time right along with their audiences all over the country for more than 35 years. Wherever they appear — convention, music festival or a symphony pops concert — they always pack the house. Three On A String’s show has evolved into a well-timed, musically interesting and funny presentation with their mix of bluegrass, country, old favorites and comedy. From the first song to the standing ovation you will be entertained by these three talented, Alabama Music Hall of Famers. Joining this threesome will be Andy Meginniss, who played bass, guitar and handled lead and harmony vocals as part of Three on a String from 1972 to 1985. Today, Andy is the guitar player and vocalist in The Herb Trotman Band, a bluegrass ensemble that has played steadily since 1992. He, too, was inducted into the Alabama Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. “,” a musical tribute to Featuring Steve Shaffer and the Pell City Players March 15-17 It’s “Old Blue Eyes” at his best in a nationally toured musical tribute playing to packed houses throughout the country.
