INTEGRITY

North Beach Citizens 2016-2017 Annual Report RESPECT Since North Beach Citizens was founded in 2001, we have worked diligently to create a positive impact within our neighborhood. We consider our community partnerships the catalyst for helping us effectively build momentum and further our mission to address the homeless crisis in San Francisco.

Our community-based approach has been acknowledged by visitors and prominent press over the last year. From London, inquired about our unique service model, interviewing staff and clientele for a comprehensive feature on homelessness in the United States. Closer to home, San Francisco Chronicle reporter Kevin Fagan wrote a front-page article on North Beach Citizens and our perspective on the City’s latest homeless count. And most notably, Supervisor Jeff Sheehy toured our facility in May to consider a replication of our organization in District 8, reinforcing the reach of our organization outside of our immediate community in North Beach.

OUR TEAM Trust, integrity, and respect are the core values of North Beach Citizens. We are grateful for all of your support in the past year, and we look forward to years of Kristie Fairchild, Executive Director service on behalf of our clientele and the community. Don Spradlin, Philanthropy and Development Director With fondest regards, Tiffany Kim, Operations and Program Manager Theresa Andrews, Program Assistant Marie Cartier, Program Assistant Kristie Fairchild Janet Pak, Development & Executive Director Program Assistant 2 BOARD PRESIDENT MESSAGE

Our clients do the hard work of turning their lives around, but they don’t do it alone. We empower them with the support they need while ensuring they have access to other community resources. In this way, we don’t duplicate services. This unique ability to leverage partnerships is what makes North Beach Citizens successful. As a result, we’ve earned a reputation for effectively housing chronically homeless people and ensuring they’re housed year after year. Next year, we hope to expand our program staff. This will allow us to broaden our services, access more resources for our clients and create more partnerships. We’ll do all this, as we always have, with our community of San Francisco businesses, nonprofi ts, and you —our neighbors, volunteers, and donors. Our Board of Directors thanks you for your generous support. Best,

Brenna Elizabeth Moorhead President, Board of Directors

4 I n 2014, a concerned neighbor introduced Debbie to North Beach Citizens. They had met at a local grocery store, where Debbie had shared that she had been homeless due to domestic violence and medical issues. By then, she had been homeless for three years. As a domestic violence survivor, Debbie suffered physically, mentally, and socially. She had nowhere to go, and desperately needed stable housing so she could focus on addressing her medical issues. For years, Debbie had been managing diabetes and kidney disease, which were exacerbated by the stressors of homelessness. After creating a mutually agreed upon action plan, North Beach Citizens provided her with temporary housing. We helped her apply for General Assistance, enroll in Medi-Cal, initiate the process for Social Security Disability Income, and apply for permanent housing. Now, Debbie lives in permanent, affordable housing and has stabilized her health issues.

“North Beach Citizens is a silver lining for the homeless and a safe haven of positivity and encouragement.” — Debbie
