  • Dark Matter in the Solar System, Galaxy, and Beyond
Axel Widmark There is evidence that dark matter constitutes a majority of the Universe's matter content. Yet, we are ignorant about its nature. Dark Matter in the Solar System, Understanding dark matter requires new physics, possibly in the form of a new species of fundamental particles. So far, the evidence Galaxy, and Beyond supporting the existence of dark matter is purely gravitational, ranging from mass measurements on galactic scales, to cosmological probes and Beyond Galaxy, the Solar System, in Dark Matter such as the cosmic microwave background radiation. For many Axel Widmark proposed models of particle dark matter, the strongest constraints to its properties do not come from particle collider or direct detection experiments on Earth, but from the vast laboratory of space. This thesis focuses on such extra-terrestrial probes, and discusses three different indirect signatures of dark matter. They span a great range of spatial scales — from stellar interactions relevant to our own solar system, to the mass distribution of the Milky Way, and even cosmological signals from the dawn of the first stars. Through the macroscopic phenomenology of dark matter, the microscopic particle nature of dark matter can be constrained. Doing so is a window into new physics and a deeper understanding of the Universe we live in. ISBN 978-91-7911-120-5 Department of Physics Doctoral Thesis in Theoretical Physics at Stockholm University, Sweden 2020 Dark Matter in the Solar System, Galaxy, and Beyond Axel Widmark Academic dissertation for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Theoretical Physics at Stockholm University to be publicly defended on Monday 25 May 2020 at 14.15 in sal FB42, AlbaNova universitetscentrum, Roslagstullsbacken 21.

Map 65 Lycia-Pisidia Compiled by C. Foss (west) and S. Mitchell, 1994 Introduction The map covers a large segment of south-west Asia Minor, extending from the southern edge of Phrygia in the north to the Mediterranean coastline. The most striking feature is the western extremity of the Taurus mountain range, which dominates the entire landscape of Pisidia and Lycia. In the north-east are the internally drained lake basins of Trogitis (Lake Suğla), Karalis (Lake Beyşehir), Lake Eğridir (E1-2, ancient name unknown), and Ascanius (Burdur Lake). The mountains to the south of these contain the sources of three major rivers, which flow down through Pisidia to the Pamphylian plain–the Melas, Eurymedon and Kestros. Both Pamphylia and Pisidia contained large populations in antiquity, occupying a dense network of city-states, up to ten in Pamphylia and over fifty in Pisidia. Pisidia was accessible by some of the most important routes of southern Asia Minor, in particular the road built by the first Roman proconsul of Asia, M’. Aquillius, between 129 and 126 B.C. from Pergamum (Map 56 E3) to Side (French 1991), and the Augustan Via Sebaste, which ran from Perge to Pisidian Antioch (Map 62 F5). The historical geography of this region has been much advanced in many recent studies–by Bean, Mitchell and Nollé especially (note the overview in Mitchell 1998b)–and the pace of discovery shows no signs of slowing. Current research by Turkish scholars is beginning to throw important new light on the border zone between southern Pisidia and eastern Lycia to the west of Attalea.

  • Das Vespasiansmonument Von Döşeme Und Die Gründung Der Doppelprovinz Lycia Et Pamphylia
GEPHYRA 9 2012 1–40 Mustafa ADAK – Mark WILSON Das Vespasiansmonument von Döşeme und die Gründung der Doppelprovinz Lycia et Pamphylia Abstract: The old question as to when Lycia, Pamphylia (and southern Pisidia) were first combined into a double province can now be reliably answered thanks to a new epigraphic document. In 71– 72 CE Vespasian had parts of the Via Sebaste in the Pisidian-Pamphylian border region repaired by his governor Avidius Celer and his procurator P. Anicius Maximus. These construction activities were recorded in a bilingual inscription engraved on a monument consisting of several stone blocks. The text mentions Avidius Celer, already known from other inscriptions found in Lycia, as governor of the province of Pamphylia et Lycia. The document provides the earliest datable men- tion of the double province. In Myra and in the Carian city of Kaunos in late 70 CE Avidius Celer consecrated buildings dedicated to emperor Vespasian. This new evidence suggests that the double province of Lycia et Pamphylia had already been created by 70 or 71 CE as part of wider reform measures taken by Vespasian early in his reign in an effort to consolidate the empire. Since the governorship of Avidius Celer can now be safely dated to the years 70–72 CE, it is also possible to date precisely the governorships of his successors. The involvement in this construction project on the Via Sebaste of the financial procurator P. An- icius Maximus, who was simultaneously in charge of the provinces of Galatia and Lycia-Pamphylia, suggests that in the vicinity of the monument the road passed through imperial estates, for which there is further evidence.
